From the History of Williams County by Shinn
In October 1833 Rev. James B. Austin was invited to preach at Mr. Daniel Colgan's cabin. At this meeting a society of five members was formed. Peter Knipe and his wife were early members of this Methodist organization.
From "Williams County, Ohio - A Collection of Historical Sketches and Family Histories compiled by Members and Friends of the Williams County Historical Society," Vol. 2 1978
"It will be remembered that Peter Knipe settled on the southeast corner of Section 33 in the Spring of 1831, one of the first settlers in Williams County, on Bean Creek in Springfield Twp. The first death in the township was that of Malinda Knipe, daughter of Peter Knipe, which occurred on the first of May, 1834. The funeral was preached by Reverend Thomas J. Prettyman." From the "Historical Narratives of Williams County," published in 1950 "Peter Knipe lived at Mile 12 from the point of beginning and three miles north of Defiance. . Peter Knipe had moved up the river soon after the survey of the road. "
