Affadavit of James Wilson, addressed to the Commissioner of Pensions, Washington, D.C.
Sir; George Flager, a private in Company G of the 57th Inf., Ohio Vol. writes me that he is an applicant for pension and wishes me to make a statment in his case. I was Captain of Company G 57th Regt. O.V.I. when George Flager joined the camp for duty, some time in the month of October 1862. Flager remained with the comp. until some time in the month of December 1862, when near Vicksburg, Miss., on the Yazoo River, he was on the sick list, complaining as I rememberit of diarrhea and my recollection of him at this late date is that he did but little duty from that time until his discharge in Aug 1863.
I cannot now remember distinctly all the parciculars of his case, as I was necessarily absent from my company much of the time until the fall of Vicksburg having been detailed for duty in the Engineer Department but I do remember that while the Regt was encamped opposite Vicksburg and digging the canal, sometime in April I believe, I sent to Company quarters and found Flager there.
I asked him why he was not down at work upon the canal with his camp; he replied that he had been excused from duty by the surgeon and said he was suffering with much diarrhea, and I thought from his appearance that such was the case. I believe that he remained with his company doing very little if any duty until some time in May when he was sent to the hospital by sickness or by detail, I do not now remember which.
I do not remember ever seeing him again until the latter part of July or first part of August at which time he reported from the hospital to his company for duty. He was discharged from the service on the 30th day of August 1863.
Signed, James Wilson
