Blue Rock State Park/ Culter Lake
In 1936 the state of Ohio purchased the land comprising Blue Rock State
Forest. Construction of Culter Lake was completed in 1938. Blue Rock
officially became a State Park with the formation of the division of Parks
and Recreation in 1949. There is 4,579 acres in Blue Rock State Park and
Foresty, located 12 miles south east of Zanesville. It is accessed primarily
by State Rout 60 and Culter Lake Rrd. Blue Rock State Park is a nice place
for family fun and actitives with swimming, picnic areas, trails, fishing,
hunting, boating and camping. There are 100 non-electric campsites
available. Showers are available at the bath beach house. Three camper
cabins are available with equipment, the campstore has snacks, camp supplies,
sundries, ice, and firewood. There are several miles of hiking trails, and
horse bridletrails, tables, grills and shelterhouses for picnics. This is
one of Blue Rock townships wonderful family attractions.

Natural Resources
Iron, The brown hematite is very abundant.
Oil, B. Crane Co. bored for oil in 1880.
As early as 1819 oil was find in a spring on a farm in the
northeast corner of Blue Rock Township.
Sandstone and Fireclay is also in abundant supply.
Coal was mined out at four hundred and twenty some feet above water of the
Muskingum River at Gaysport. The coal was mined for local use.
