Ethnic genealogy is a study unto itself, and there are several societies in the area to help with these specialized bodies of knowledge. Computer aided genealogy and general interest genealogy groups from surrounding counties are found here. African-American Genealogy Society of Cleveland Dedicated to aiding those with African-American heritage, this society is extremely active and meets at the Maple Heights Library.

Finnish Heritage Museum of Fairport Harbor, Ohio, U.S.A. This group maintains a museum and also has a genealogy interest group. They can help with Finnish roots.

Hungarian Genealogical Society The late Gus Enyedy began this group to assist members in their pursuit of Hungarian and Eastern European roots. It no longer meets, but the helpdesk still works.

CIAO (Cleveland Italian Ancestry Organization This group meets every other month in varying locations in the Cleveland area. They can help with Italian research and culture. |

Jewish Genealogical Society of Cleveland This society meets at Menorah Park to aid those researching Jewish ancestry.

Polish Genealogical Society of Greater Cleveland Polish Genealogy can encompass several countries, current and historical. This group can help with Polish ancestry.

Slovenian Genealogy Society 20713 Recher Avenue Euclid, Ohio This ethnic genealogy society helps with researching family roots in Slovenia and here in the U.S., but also includes Slovenian history, mores, culture, current events in Slovenia, etc..

Ashtabula County Genealogical Society A general interest genealogical group with a computer aided genealogy special interest group is active in indexing and making available records and cemetery inscriptions for research. |

Geauga County Genealogical Society This general interest society meets in Lake County's parent county at the Chardon Library. They support the wonderful collection at that library which many Lake County researchers use.

East Cuyahoga County Genealogical Society, OGS This large general interest society meets at the Cuyahoga County Public Library, Mayfield Branch.

North East Ohio Computer-Aided Genealogy Society (NEOCAG) This group meets virtually on Zoom to help educate researchers in the use of using the computer as a tool to aid in genealogy research.

Computer Assisted Genealogy Group--Cleveland This computer group is very active in education as well as projects to digitize records for genealogical use. Meetings are held at Fairview Park Regional Library.
