The following poll book information found in the Painesville, Ohio Telegraph, 19 July 1888, page 3 was digitized by teen volunteer Ray Julian. A transcription was published in the Lake County Genealogical Society newsletter LakeLines 15:3 (1989) p. 27-28
Old Time Records. The Telegraph is in possession of several of the poll books of elections held in Painesville at an early date in the present century, two of which, 1804 and 1816, we copy verbatim:
Poll book of the election held in the township of Painesville, County of Trumbull, on the second day of April, A.D. 1804, for the purpose of electing three county commissioners, agreeable to law.
I do hereby certify that David Abbot, Ebenezer Merry and Anson Sessions, judges, and Edward Paine, Jr. and Abr'm Tappen, clerks of the election held in the township of Painesville, County of Trumbull, on the second day of April A.D., 1804, were severally sworn as the law directs previous to their entering on the duties of their respective offices.

The above are all dead. Franklin Paine who died Jan.7 1884 at the age 93 being the last survivor.
In 1828 at the October election there were 200 votes polled.
In 1840, at the Presidential election, held October thirtieth, there were 489 votes cast in Painesville, of which William Henry Harrison received 348, Martin Van Buren, 134, and James G. Burney, (Abolition) 7.
Of these voters, 318 are known to be dead, 43 are known to be living, and 128 cannot be accounted for.
Of the 43 who are known to be living, 20 voted for Harrison who will vote for Harrison in '88 and 10 voted for Van Buren who will vote for Cleveland in '88.

[The newspaper article concluded with the following suggestion:]
The Telegraph invites its readers throughout the county to send in the names of all those who voted for Harrison in 1840, and expect to vote for Harrison in 1888.
It has been suggested that each township organize a "Harrison Veteran Club" and that they be made auxiliary to a Lake County Harrison Veteran Club.
