Chancey Beeman's Manumission
To Whom it May Concern
Know Ye
That I Reuben Beeman of Kirtland in the County of Geauga and State of Ohio for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto mooving have given unto my Son Chancey Beeman his Time, that is to say the term of time which I am entitled to his services as a Minor under me which is about Seven months more or Less, and I the Said Reuben Beeman do by these presents exonerate and acquit the Said Chancey from all further services for or under me giving him full Liberty to transact business for himself and receive all Wages or income that may arise for his Labour or any other business in as full a manner as if he was now twenty one years of age, and I hereby notify all men and people Whom it may concern that I shall not in future Consider myself Liable to fulfull any Contract or Contracts of his after the day of the date hereof

This Indenter made this 15. Day of October AD. 1834
between Harden Cleveland and John Johnson & Jotham Maynard Trustees of the Township of Kirtland in the County of Geauga and state of Ohio of the one part and J. C. Dowen and his wife of said Township of the other part witnesseth that the said Trustees have and by these presents do place and bind out Harriet Higgins a poor Girl ages two years daughter of Joshua Higgins and to live with and serve them untill she arives to the age of Eighteen Years which we believe will happen on the 15th day of Octr. A.D. 1852 if the said Harriet Higgins so does lives and the said trustees do by these presents give unto them the said J. C. Dowen & his wife all the authorety power and insight to and over the said Harriet Higgins and hur services During said term and the said J.C. Dowen & wife on their part doth agree to instruct and train her to habits of Obedience & industry of the consideration of fifty Dollars one half to be paid on the signing of this agreement and the other half in one year from Date above written
In witness whereof we have hereof we hear unto set our hands and seals this day and year above written
N.B. the above named J C Dowen & wife are also bound according to the term of the instrument to education the above named Harriet Higgins according to law in the various branches of Education

[John Huffman to] Winfield Higgins Indenture
This indenture made this 12th day of May AD 1835 between Enoch Morse Hardon Cleveland and Caleb E. Cummings Trustees of the Township of Kirtland County of Geauga and state of Ohio, of the one part and John Huffman of said Township County and State aforesaid of the other part witnessesth, That the said Trustees have and by these presents do place and bind out Winfield Higgins a poor boy aged about four years (age to be ascertained hereafter if possible) and son of Joshua Higgins ~ and to live with and to serve him the said John Huffman until he arrives at the age of twenty one years which we believe will happen some time in 1852 (unless ascertained as above which will be the proper time) if the said Winfield Higgins so long lives, and the said Trutees do by these presents give unto him the said John Huffman all the authority power and right to and over the said Winfield Higgins and his services and his services during said term ~ and the said Huffman doth agree on his part to instruct and train him to habits of obedience and industry for the consideration of seventy dollars one half to be paid by the first of January 1836 the remainder by the first of January 1837 ~ In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals the day and year above written
N.B. the above named John Huffman is also bound according to the tenure of this instrument to educate the above named Winfield Higgins according to Law in the various branches of Education

Decr. 26th This day Peter Hoffman applied for the Ballance of the money due his father John Hoffman on the Indenture made between said John Hoffman and the Trustees of Kirtland May 12th 1836. Whereupon it being understood that the above named John Hoffman had conveyed his property into the hands of his son the above named Peter Hoffman and was also in consequence of illness not capable of transacting business it was ordered that The Clerk depose an Order be issued for the above Money require from Said Peter Hoffman a Bond specifying that he would fulfill the conditions of the Indenture made between the Trustees of Kirtland and John Hoffman May 12th 1835 which said bond was Executed accordingly and put on file
Bond
This is to Certify that I, Peter Hoffman have received from my father a conveyance of his property on condition of my assuming the responsibility of his debts contracts &c and that in consideration of One Dollar to me in hand paid and the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged I do bind myself to fulfill the conditions of a certain Agreement made between the Trustees of Kirtland Township and my father John Hoffman on the 12th day of May 1835 which condition by the tenure of said Agreement my father was bound to fulfill and I do further bind myself for and in consideration of the Sum above mentioned and the further sum of Seventy Dollars which according to the tenure of said Agreement was to be paid to my father John Hoffman and the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged by me as his agent ~ to give Winfield Higgins, who by the tenor of said agreement was bound in service to my father, two suits of clothes and a Bible as specified by law on his arriving at the age of 21 years, and to the fulfillment of the aforesaid provisions, I bind myself my heirs Executors and assigns forever.
Given under my hand this 26th day of December in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred and thirty Six Peter Huffman {seal}

An order was then issued on the Treasurer of Kirtland Township for $35 the Ballance due John Huffman
