South Ridge (Lane Road - Wright- Methodist Cemetery) (active, lot owners only) |
Inscriptions | Section Map |
The land at the corner of Lane Road and South Ridge Road was donated for the South Church and Cemetery by Mr. H. J. Wright's grandfather. Around 1919 the church was moved off the cemetery property to the land diagonal from it, being the southwestern corner of River Road and South Ridge Road. This piece of land was then known as Keener's Falls. The church is now the home of the Anzelc family. When the foundation and basement for the new location of the church was being dug, an Indian graveyard was discovered. The remains of nine Indians were found along with flint spear heads, tomahawk heads of stone, flint arrow heads and skin scrapers. Testing in the 1990s for the Vrooman Road bridge relocation project has indicated more remains in the area of the South Ridge/Lane/River Road intersection.
