George D. McGwinn, ’96

George D. McGwinn was born in Richmond, Ohio, October 14, 1878. He was graduated from Painesivlle High School in 1896 and from Adelbert College of Western Reserver University in 1900.

Following two years in the Engineering Department of the Cuyahoga Telephone Company, Mr. McGwinn became associated with the Williamson Company, owners and operators of Cleveland down-town properties and by whom he later was sent into the West to investigate public utilities investments. After four years of managing gas and electric properties, he returned to Clevleand and, as an officer of the Williamson Company and affiliated interests, specialized in bank and office building management, becoming widely known as an acknowledeged [sic] expert in this important department of the real estate field.

In 1920, retaining a nominal connection with the companies with which he had been associated, Mr. McGwinn devoted his time to the Cleveland banks which through consolidation have become the Union Trust Company. As Vice-President in charge of the Real Estate Department of the Union Trust Company, he is Manager of the Union Trust Building.

Mr. McGwinn has retained an active interest in educational matters, serving for some time as a member of the East Cleveland Board of Education. He was married to Miss Katherine Earle Freeman, of St. Paul, June 3, 1902. A daughter, Miss Katherine Lois McGwinn, now is a student in Radcliffe College. Mr. and Mrs. McGwinn reside at 2439 Demington Drive, Cleveland Heights.
