Benaiah Jones 1755-1839

Benaiah Jones Jr., of Hebron, Conn., was born Aug. 12, 1775. He served on Washington's body guard during the Revolutionary War.

Feb. 7, 1781, he married Jemima Skinner, of Hebron, who was born in 1758, and who also did heroic work during the Revolution.

In 1782 they removed to Massachusetts, coming to Ohio in Sept. 1808, making their home in Painesville.

Mrs. Jones died in 1820, Benaiah Jones lived until Aug. 19, 1839, aged eighty-four years. He spent his last days with a son in Jonesville, Mich.

A monument in the Mentor Avenue Cemetery bears the name of Jemima Skinner Jones, Benaiah Jones, Elkanah Jones. "Soldiers of the Revolution."
