This was written and submitted by Judy Stebbins. She says, "There are a number of Griffith families in the 1840 Census for Lake, Geauga and Trumbull Counties. I have identified the separate Griffith lines as the families were not all related. My husband's Stebbins family line is related to Dr. Samuel Griffith. (Almosina Flavia Griffith married Dr. Loren Clark Stebbins.) In my researches for Dr. Samuel Griffith, I discovered information on the other Griffith families."
Thomas Griffith was living in Painesville, Geauga Co., Ohio in 1820. We know this from the notice of his death in the I which read that he had lived in Painesville 20 years at the time of his death in 1841.
Thomas Griffith had a wife named Sarah. He was born in Ireland in 1801. I have not been able to find out much about his family. He bought quite a bit of land and a building in Painesville which he rented out to store keepers.
Thomas Robinson, of Painesville, sold to Thomas Griffith, of Painesville, on July 15, 1828, the new building lately erected by Thomas Robinson on Bond Corner (so called) in Painesville. Geauga Co. Archives, Deeds Vol 13, p. 461 - 462.
Thomas Griffith was 40 years old when he died so his calculated birth date is 1801.
Grave marker in Division 17, Evergreen Cemetery, Painesville reads:

Ireland
Died
July 20th 1841,
Aged 40 years
In the probate records following his death, there is a court case with the wife Sarah Griffith vs. William Griffith, John Griffith, and Phebe Elliott, heirs of Thomas Griffith. Thomas Griffith died without a will.

Sarah Griffith vs. Wm. Griffith, John Griffith, Phebe Elliot; and Stephen Mathews, Benj. Bissell, administrators of Thomas Griffith, deceased. Thomas Griffith died on or about July 20, 1841 leaving Sarah, his widow, and the defendants, his heirs. Re: Real estate.
I cannot find any children born to Thomas and Sarah Griffith. However, there is a family of Lazarus Griffith born in 1778 who has children named William Griffith, John Griffith, and a Phebe Griffith, who married Adin Elliott. These may be his heirs.
