Holmes County Guardianship Index
The following is an index to Guardianship Records. These records have been microfilmed and are available in the Genealogy Department of the Holmes County Library. The original records are stored at the Holmes County Genealogical Society Library, located in Millersburg, Ohio. A donation of $5.00 is requested for the first 25 pages and an additional $5.00 for anything above 25 pages.Early Guardianship Bonds, as they are marked on the boxes, are not all guardianships. The files contain a mixture of guardianship bonds and records as well as administrator bonds. Most files contain just the bonds; however, there are some that contain final records and receipts. The records can also be a comination of guardianship and administrator. Some files, even though they have a date after 1851, they were more than likely started about that time.
Please note: The names are indexed by the ward's surname, or in the case of early guardianship bonds, it may be the deceased, which is highlighted. The guardian may or may not be a parent. There may also be a file for each child or they may be combined in one file. If there is no one listed in the “Heir Of” column, then there is probably another reason for having a guardian. These files can contain only the Guardian's Bond or they can contain receipts, accounting information and even court orders to sell property.
