Emil W. Winkler

April 16, 1930 ~ December 27, 2017

Emil William Winkler, 87, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.

He was born April 16, 1930 in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1954. He worked for the Nickle Plate Rail Road for 34 years retiring in 1985 and continued to work for Winkler Builders out of Wakeman for 15 years.

He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron and the Huron Eagles. He worked as a volunteer for the Erie County Sheriff Dept. He enjoyed the outdoors and his horses and working with 4-H and doing things for and with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys (Smith) Winkler, married to for 61 years; two daughters, Jody (Joe) Cartieri and Cathy (Steve) McGookey; a son, William (Kathleen) Winkler; grandchildren, Scott Winkler, Ben (Brittani) Winkler, Taylor (Jordan) Winkler, Hannah (James) Justi, Tiffany (Gary) Howell, and Nicholas McGookey; 7 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn Davis.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Emil J and Helen A (Wassily) Winkler, and a sister, Marjorie Zika.

A private family service will be held at the Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, Huron.
