Ralph Walter Sondergeld

June 26, 1933 - January 8, 2019

Ralph Walter Sondergeld, 85, residing in Sandusky, passed away Tuesday evening, January 8, 2019 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Ralph was born on June 26, 1933 in Oak Harbor, OH to the late Walter H. and Marie E. (Kinsel) Sondergeld.

Ralph graduated from Olney High School in 1951. He was a Veteran of the US Army who proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was owner of Ohio Drywall Construction and Supply for over 50 years. Ralph was a life time member of the VFW, AMVETS and the American Legion. He was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Orioles Club. He enjoyed working with numbers, and was known as a human calculator. He was a skilled handyman and liked playing the piano, watching old western movies, reading his newspaper, day trips to the casino and spending time with his family.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 33 years, June (Bodi) Sondergeld. He is also survived by his daughter, Sandra Sondergeld of Sandusky; step-daughter, Cynthia Hartnett of GA; step-sons, Rob (Kelly) Soule of Sandusky and Mark Hartnett of CA; several grandchildren; brother, Donald (Mary) Sondergeld of CT and cousin Blanche Batesole of Graytown, OH.

Friends may call on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 in the funeral home at 11:00 am. Pastor Wally Gilbert will officiate services. Burial will follow in Castalia Cemetery, Castalia.
