Ernest "Chuck" Charles Smith

July 2, 1950 - February 6, 2019

Ernest "Chuck" Charles Smith, 68, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Wednesday morning, February 6, 2019 at his home after a lengthy illness.

Chuck was born on July 2, 1950 in Sandusky, OH to Ernest Cecil and Elizabeth Margaret (Claubaugh) Smith.

Chuck graduated from Sandusky High School in 1968. He began his career at Sandusky Motors as a mechanic and worked his way up to parts manager. He worked at several area dealerships and was currently employed at Kasper Toyota. Chuck was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed his bass guitar, motorcycles, reading and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Chuck, affectionately known as Uban, was a well liked local musician, and was the "go to" bass player for many bands; The Impact Sounds, Wild Honey, The Billy Lee Band, Pete Richardz, Sneaky Pete, Swingin' Johnsons, Ransom, Lonesome Pony, Savitar, Night Shift, Free Beer, RMS and more.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Nancy (Helget) Smith, whom he married on September 5, 1970. He is also survived by his mother, Elizabeth M. Smith of Sandusky; daughter, Stephanie (Dale) Borzon of Sandusky; grandchildren, Derrick and Dawson both of Sandusky; sister, Marsha (Charlie) Moore of Norwalk and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his father, Ernest, Chuck is preceded in death by his nephew, Benjamin Moore.

A Celebration of Life will be held and conducted at a later date. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
