Margaret “Maggie” C. (Coleman) Ryan

September 8, 1943 – January 4, 2019

Margaret (Maggie) Ryan, 75, passed away peacefully Friday, January 4, 2019, with family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Sandusky, Ohio on September 8, 1943, she was the daughter of William and Maxine (Young) Coleman. She graduated from St. Mary’s Central Catholic School in 1961 and retired in 2004 after 30 years as an optician for Dr. John Wasylik.

Maggie was a member of Sandusky St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was an avid gardener, bookworm and birdwatcher and was always eager to learn new things. She was an active member of the Sandusky Bonsai Club and practiced Tai Chi for over 10 years. Maggie was part of a close-knit group of friends since school days that met once a month.

Maggie is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, James, whom she married June 23, 1962; children Robert (Bev), daughter-in-law Julie, Thom (Lou Ann Dixon), Craig (Michelle), and Christine (Steve) Bradley; 8 grandchildren Ian (Danyelle), Corey (Rachel), Jeremy, Joshua, Alyssa (Tony), Shelby, Cecily (Anthony), and Holly; 7 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, Jerry (Deb) Coleman and Joe (Ginny) Coleman, 2 sisters, Rita (George) Christenot, and Connie (Bob) Duval, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Maggie was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law, Charlotte Ryan; one son, Michael, and one sister, Patricia Howell.

Friends may call Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Father Matt Frisbee will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
