John O. Russ, 82, of Huron, passed away Monday, August 21, 2017 at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky after an extended illness.
He was born July 21, 1935 in Warren, OH and graduated from Warren G. Harding High School. He attended Ohio University and graduated from Youngstown State University.
He has been a resident of the Huron-Sandusky area for the past 20 years coming from Warren. He worked for Republic Steel as a superintendent in the Cold Stripe Dept. After retiring he worked for Gulf States Steel Co. in Gadsden, Alabama as Vice President until 1996.
He was a US Army Veteran and served from 1959 to 1961.
He was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Sandusky and belonged to American Iron & Steel Organization. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the Cleveland Sports Teams, and spending time with his special dog, Otis.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia (Demmer) Russ, married to for 58 years; two daughters, Bridget (Robert) Vaschak of Sandusky, and Brenda (Gary Richards) Russ of Rocky River; two grandchildren, Hallie (Tyler) Brooks of Indianapolis, IN and Megan Vaschak of Sandusky; and two sisters, Carolyn Zoba of Warren, OH and Virginia (David) Brown of Ostrander, OH.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Pearl (Jonesco) Russ.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 24th from 9 a.m. until time of mass at 10 a.m. at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave, Sandusky.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warren, OH.
