Rodger C. Pfeil

April 3, 1937 ~ August 5, 2009

Rodger C. Pfeil, 72, of Castalia and North Fort Myers, Florida died Wednesday morning, August 5, 2009 in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky following a brief illness.

He was born April 3, 1937 in Sandusky and was a 1955 graduate of Margaretta High School. Rodger was employed for 33 years with the Ohio Operating Engineers, Local 18, working 20 of those years with the former Elmer Borchardt, Inc. He retired in 1997. He was also a patrolman for ten years with the Castalia Police Department and a 28 year member of the Margaretta Township Fire Department, retiring as the assistant chief in 1984. He was also a fire instructor and a fire safety inspector with the fire department. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Castalia, where he had served on the council, as Sunday school superintendent and played in the Church dartball league for many years. Rodger also served on the Village of Castalia Zoning Board.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Carol J. Ransom, one daughter: Rhonda (Michael) Rice of Castalia, one son: Donald (Iva) Pfeil of Sandusky, five grandchildren: Shaun, Brittany, Zachary, Adam, and Halle, two aunts: Esther "Dadoo" Pfeil of Castalia and Kathryn Friedley of Sandusky and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Harold & Clara (Krueger) Pfeil.

Friends may call Sunday from 2:00-8:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky and Monday from 9:30 AM until time of funeral at 11:00 AM at the Grace Lutheran Church, 203 S. Washington Street, Castalia. The Rev. Kathleen Suggitt will officiate.

Burial will be in the Castalia Cemetery.
