Eleanor B. Pearce

January 21, 1922 ~ May 18, 2017

Eleanor Brown Pearce, 95, residing in Sandusky, and formerly of Midland, MI, died Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Stein Hospice, Sandusky.

Eleanor was born January 21, 1922 in Cleveland, OH to Willard Cowles and Alice Harshaw Brown. She graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1940 and from Case Western Reserve (Flora Stone Mather), in 1944, with a degree in Economics. Following graduation Eleanor enlisted in the Women's U.S. Naval Reserve, known as WAVES. She became a Supply Corps Officer, serving at Naval yards in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, and Great Lakes Naval Base. Eleanor was honorably discharged with the rank of Lt. J.G. following WWII.

Eleanor married James Henry Pearce on July 3, 1947. While raising her family in Midland, MI, Eleanor enjoyed golf, tennis, bridge, and various civic clubs. She also volunteered at the Midland Hospital and Meals-On- Wheels. She and Jim enjoyed traveling and hosting family and friends. Eleanor liked her blueberries sprinkled with sugar, her pancakes with real maple syrup, and her gin on-the-rocks. She was thrilled to have grandchildren and great-grandchildren!

Eleanor is survived by her daughters; Sarah L. Pearce, Hartland, WI, and Lise P. (Ron) Cook, Huron; grandchildren, Abigail Pearce-Cook (Ken) Barden, Baton Rouge, LA, and Adam J. Cook, Memphis, TN; and twin great-grandsons Perrin and Pearce Barden, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Pearce, in 1996, and her brother, Willard C. Brown, Jr., and niece Susan Brown Wise.

At Eleanor's request there will be no local service. Her ashes will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

The family would like to thank the community of The Commons of Providence Assisted Living for their friendship and loving care for the past six years. It was truly her "home away from home".
