Leon Payne

June 14, 1949 ~ April 29, 2017

Leon E. Payne, 67, of Huron, passed away April 29th, 2017 at Louis Stokes Veterans Memorial Hospital, Cleveland, surrounded by his loved ones.

Leon was born on June 14, 1949 in Coeburn, Virginia to James L. Payne and the late Arita (Richardson) Payne. Leon was a graduate of Huron High School Class of 1967.

He proudly served in the United States Army as a Sergeant with the 501ST Infantry and was a Vietnam War Combat Veteran. Leon took special interest in advocating for disabled veterans.

He was a successful business man who spent parts of his life in Maine and Florida returning to Ohio for his retirement. Leon enjoyed fishing on the lake and spending time with his friends and family. However, nothing brought him more joy than giving his grandchildren all the love, time and devotion he could.

Leon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, who was loved and respected by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife Angie; children, Doug (Angie), Michael, Billy (Milena), Josh (Hailey); grandchildren; Alexis, Bridget, Sophia, Aubrey, Olivia and James; his father, James; brothers, Jerell (Kathy), Rottie (Vicki), and Lonnie (Terry); sisters, Betty (Robert), Ella (Dallas), Sheila (Alan), Diane (Mike); and many other family members and friends who's lives Leon touched.

Friends may call Thursday May 4th, from 6-8 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, 410 Main St., Huron, and services will be held Friday May 5th at 12 p.m.
