Orville Gene Nuxhall

July 25, 1930 - February 6, 2019

Orville Gene Nuxhall., 88, passed away February 6, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. after a 10 year battle with Dementia. Gene most recently lived in the Cleveland area, after relocating from Ft. Wayne IN.

Gene was born July 25, 1930 to the late Orville Louis Nuxhall and Naomi Marie (nee Gailey) Nuxhall in Hamilton OH.

He had been married 49 years to Juanita Harrison (deceased) and died on the anniversary of their marriage.

Gene raised 4 daughters, Rebecca Jean (Lewis) Hoskinson (both deceased), Patricia Anne (Terrence) Dobro, Cleveland, OH, Elaine (Thomas) Glendening, Fenton MO, and Melissa Marie (Daniel) Nix, Fort Wayne IN. He is survived by grandchildren, Kathleen Hooven, Bryan Dobro, Natalie (Brian) Kasprzak, Todd (Jacquelyn) Dobro, Stacey (Andrew) Dilley, Elizabeth Nix, Joseph (Rebecca) Nix, Sarah Nix, David Glendening, Henry (Kasey) Glendening, and John Glendening, as well as 9 great-grandchildren; older brother, Joe, his younger brothers, Bob and Don, and sister, Evelyn; sisters-in-law, Donzetta, Myra and Pat Nuxhall and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He attended Ohio University, Athens OH, studying Mechanical Engineering for 3 years. He was then drafted into the Army in April 1953 and stationed at Fort Knox, KY where he met and married Juanita Harrison. He served 9 months in Korea with C Company, 73rd Tank Battalion as a non-commissioned officer. His decorations included the Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

For 38 years he worked as a Mechanical Engineer in Design, worked on projects that went into space and in May 1977 was granted a patent while working for The Magnavox Company. Retirement was spent with many trips to explore the West with Juanita. He was always curious and creative. He taught his daughters to love reading and classical music, as well as baseball.

Services will be set for a later date. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
