Ida Ruth Hastings

February 23, 1930 ~ January 31, 2018

Ida Ruth Hastings, age 87, died peacefully on January 31, 2018 at The Meadows after a brief struggle with cancer.

She was born February 23, 1930 in Huron, the daughter of Elmer and Hannah Henes.

Ida was a lifelong resident of Huron, graduating from Huron High School in 1947. She was proud to be a Huron alumni, and helped coordinate many class reunions.

Ida married Robert Hastings in 1950, and together they raised four children. She worked for the Huron Board of Education for 24 years, retiring in 1989.

Ida's 87 years as a member of the United Methodist Church (the longest membership tenure of any parishioner).

Ida and Bob enjoyed spending their post-retirement winters in Ft. Myers, FL, where they made many friends from all over the Midwest.

Ida's favorite Huron pursuits included Lake Erie "viewing," reading, playing cards with the girls, and watching her grandchildren participate in school activities.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert; daughters Cynthia (Joe) DeFazio, Huron, and Donna Green, Huron; two sons, Robert Jr. (Patricia) Hastings of Burlington, KY, and Thomas (Karen) Hastings of Huron; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister Marjorie Marshall of Elyria, OH; brother Edwin Henes of New London, OH; and her beloved cat Jitter.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jane Ranft.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 11th, 2:00 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Huron.
