Marilyn W. Halley

November 26, 1926 ~ January 3, 2018

Marilyn Weller Halley, age 91, entered into God's eternal presence on January 3, 2018.

A long-time resident of Huron, Marilyn was born in Willard, Ohio on November 26, 1926, the daughter of Jack and Irene Weller.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 65 years, Frank.

She is survived by sons Jay (Annette), of Sandusky and Phil (Ellen), of Milwaukee and daughter, Nan, of Granville; nine grandchildren: Meghan (Georgi) Halley, Beth (Taylor) Finseth, Laura (Dean) Woodward, Daniel Halley, Matthew Halley, Alastair ("Sudzy") Steyn, Anna Halley, Trevor Steyn, and Patrick Steyn; and five great-grandchildren, Gabriella Dakovski, Julian Finseth, Philip Dakovski, William Finseth, and Emil Dakovski.

Marilyn lived in Willard, Ohio until her early teens. After her mother died, she lived with various relatives and attended several different high schools, graduating from German Township High School, McClellandtown, PA, in 1944. After two years attending Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, Marilyn transferred to Ohio State, where she majored in education. While attending Ohio State, Marilyn met Frank during a party at the Delta Gamma Sorority house where she lived and was member. Frank and Marilyn were married at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church on the campus of Ohio State in November 1948.

After graduation, Marilyn and Frank moved to Castalia, Ohio to teach school and ultimately to Huron to do the same. Marilyn taught elementary school in Huron until 1968, when Marilyn and Frank moved to East Lansing, Michigan with their three children. Marilyn taught kindergarten there for two years, and upon the family's return to Huron in 1970, Marilyn began a 25-year career teaching kindergarten in Perkins. During and after her teaching days, Marilyn often would run into former students around town, including former students whose parents she also had taught. She touched many lives.

Following retirement in 1986, Marilyn remained active in the community. Her Christian faith was central to her life and she enjoyed worshipping and serving at The Chapel in Sandusky, and participated in Bible studies there. She helped start Dial-A-Drive in Huron, a volunteer transportation service for elderly and disabled persons, and was a volunteer for many years. She also was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international organization promoting personal and professional growth for women educators and excellence in education. In addition, she was a member of the College Women's Club of Sandusky, the Erie County Retired Teachers Association, and the Perkins Education Association.

For her children, Marilyn was a loving and engaged mom, and for her grandchildren, a wonderful and exemplary grandmother.

Visitation will be at The Chapel, 4444 Galloway Rd, Sandusky, from 2 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, with a memorial service to follow.
