William R. Guendelsberger

August 8, 1922 - June 25, 2020

William Robert Guendelsberger, 97, residing in Sandusky, died at home, surrounded by family on Thursday afternoon, June 25, 2020 of natural causes.

He was born on August 8, 1922 in Sandusky, OH to the late Aloysius and Josephine (McDermott) Guendelsberger.

Bill was a 1940 graduate of St. Mary High School and a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII. He worked for Alfred Schnurr & Sons as a carpenter foreman for over forty years. Bill was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Union for over 75 years.

Bill is survived by his wife of 71 years, Anne E. (Strickfaden) Guendelsberger; children, Ruth, John (Nese), Joe (Cheryl), Jean (Dan) Horgea, Dave (Linda), Frank (Laurie), Carl (Wendy), Janet (Jim) Mazza, Marie (Dave) Savord and Dan (Susanne); 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by two grandsons; brothers, Robert, Arthur and Thomas and two nephews.

A special thanks for Dr. James Gallagher and the staff of Stein Hospice for assisting the family with Bill's care giving. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky.

Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
