John A. Gentry, Sr., 78, of Sandusky, died on Saturday, May 25, 2019 in Stein Hospice Care Center after an illness.
He was born on August 28, 1940 in Sandusky to the late Clyde and Leona (Spencer) Gentry. A 1958 graduate of Sandusky High School, John spent 33 years as a truck driver.
He was Past Master of the Perseverance Lodge #329 F.&A.M. A former member of the Eagles and Moose Lodges, and loved to roller skate, previously owning Diamond Skate Lodge in Bellevue. He also loved camping, watching the Buckeyes, and traveling, especially snow birding to Winterhaven, Florida.
John is survived by his daughter, Tammy Thompson; sons, John (Jean) Gentry, Jr. and Jim (Corinne) Gentry, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and fiancèe, Diane "DeDe" Poths.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Shirley Gentry; brother, Gene Gentry; and a great-granddaughter in infancy.
It was John's wish to be cremated. No viewing will take place. A celebration of John's life will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 3-6 p.m. at the home of his daughter, 35 S. Main St., Milan.
