Theodate Evelyn Francis

August 26, 1917 – December 12, 2018

Theodate E. Francis, 101, residing in Sandusky, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, December 12, 2018 at Providence Care Center.

Theodate was born August 26, 1917 in Bellevue, OH to the late Robert and Ethel (Evans) Whitcomb.

Theodate was a 1935 graduate of Bellevue High School where she was an aide to Principal Alfred E. Ross, active on the school news staff and a member of the National Honor Society. Due to the untimely death of her mother, she assumed care of her remaining family. Later she worked as an assistant to the dietitian of Fremont Memorial Hospital. Theodate was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union. She was a former member of the YMCA Women’s’ Group. In her spare time, she enjoyed her child care work, reading, music, gardening, flowers, cooking and baking.

Theodate is survived by her several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Theodate is preceded in death by her husband, Lester Francis in 1996; daughter, Susan Francis in January; son, Lonnie in 1961; four sisters and nine brothers.

Friends may call on Saturday, December 15, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Dr. Eric Bodenstab will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Bellevue.
