Robert James Fitz

May 19, 1932 ~ March 14, 2019

Robert J. "Bob" Fitz, 86, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, March 14, 2019, in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.

Bob was born on the family farm on May 19, 1932, in Sandusky, OH the son of James Francis and Marie Clementine (Ineichen) Fitz. He was a 1950 graduate of St. Mary's High School and after serving honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard went on to graduate from Bowling Green State University receiving his Bachelors and Master Degree in Elementary Education.

Over the years, Bob had worked at the Ford Motor Company, in Lorain, then for the John C. Opfer Co., but later retired from the Sandusky School System where he had taught for nearly 25 years as a third grade teacher.

Bob enjoyed spending his summers at their place in Northern Michigan on the Keweenaw peninsula and he would look forward to going to the Upper Peninsula State Fair. In years past, Bob was involved with delivering meals for "Meals on Wheels."

Bob was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann (Weber) Fitz; two sons, Robert F. Fitz of Casa Grande, AZ and David J. (Stella) Fitz of Margate, FL; two sisters, Joan Hughes of Spokane, WA and Frances Hipp of Tiffin; nieces and nephews; and his buddy and companion his dog, "Buster."

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jean Thompson and Margaret Briehl; and a brother, John J. Fitz (2006).

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2019, from 4-6 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Prayers will be recited Monday morning, March 18, 2019, at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Jeff Walker officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #83 Color Guard.
