Saundra Anne Dolbeer, 71, of Huron, died peacefully on June 25, 2017 at Symphony of Olmsted Falls, Ohio after a protracted, defiant struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Saundra was born in Jackson, Tennessee and attended Lambuth College and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Saundra and her husband, Richard moved to Huron, Ohio from Colorado in 1972. Saundra was a devoted mother, educator, and independent thinker who always stayed active in the community until her incapacitation.
Saundra served as a Girl Scout Leader, member of the choir and Vestry at Christ Episcopal Church, and as a member of the Lange Trust committee of the Sandusky Library. She served for 18 years as secretary on the Huron Library Board of Trustees and worked tirelessly to promote, expand, and improve the library as a community focal point. She was named an Emeritus Trustee in 2010. Behind the scenes, she quietly performed many acts of kindness and generosity throughout the community. As a parting gift from her earthly existence, she proudly was an organ donor to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation's Center for Brain Health to advance research related to Alzheimer's.
Saundra was a fixture at Wee People Nursery School in Huron for 35 years, as a beloved teacher and as owner for the last 17 of those years. Her passion was instilling confidence and a love for learning in preschoolers. As a sideline, she was skilled in Appalachian-style basketry and taught numerous courses with her colleague, Pat Krebs in the art of basket making. An avid gardener and lover of nature, Saundra often traveled with her husband throughout the United States and abroad to assist with various wildlife projects. She was an active supporter and contributor to Planned Parenthood.
She is survived by her husband, by children Jennie Geise of Bay Village, OH and Cynthia Tomasch of Olmsted Falls, OH, by her loving and supportive sons-in-law, Randy Geise and Seth Tomasch, by 6 grandchildren (Tyler, Mary Grace and Sydney Geise; Eli, Andrew, and Sarah Tomasch), and by her brother (James) and sister (Pamela) of Jackson, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jennie (Wall) Parish and Hobart Parish.
A service celebrating Saundra's life and legacy will be at 4:00 PM on July 6 at Christ Episcopal Church, followed by a gathering in her home and gardens at 1228 Laguna Drive, Huron.
Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, Huron, is assisting the family with arrangements.
