Joyce L. (Heller) Chapin, 81, of Huron, passed away at her residence Sunday, April 8, 2018. She was born September 23, 1936 in Sandusky and has lived in Huron since 1964.
She graduated from Ada High School in 1954 and Ohio University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Secretarial Studies. She taught at Dublin and Huron High Schools, Oberlin and Sandusky Adult Education, EHOVE, and BGSU Firelands College, and was an Office Manager at Norwalk Waste Materials and Herman's Furniture.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Huron, where she assisted in production of the Steeple Notes, served as a member of the Session, and sang in the choir. She enjoyed being around the water—taking fishing trips to Canada, spending summers at Oberlin Beach in Huron, and collecting seashells during her trips to Sanibel Island, where she contributed previously unrecorded species to the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum. She reveled in card games with family, and played the clarinet, saxophone, piano, and organ.
She was a devoted wife and mother, and is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Herbert; a daughter, Betsy (John) Wiedenheft of Efland, NC; two sons, Lee (Jeanne Stoeckinger) Chapin of Divide, CO, and Steve (Mary Wilhelm) Chapin of Syracuse, NY; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn (James) Hooper of Ft. Myers, FL.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Irene (Molnar) Heller; a daughter, Laurie Jean; and sister, Laura Inez Heller.
A private family committal service will be held at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, July 7, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. at Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, 410 Main Street, Huron, with Chaplin Mel Sayler officiating.
