Ila Ruth Burmeister, 93, of 413 Pearl St., Sandusky, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 10, 2019 in Admiral's Pointe Nursing & Rehabilitation, Huron.
She was born on August 27, 1925 in Margaretta Township to Jess M. Scott and Sylvia C. (Grow) Scott. She attended Margaretta Local Schools.
Her first job was as a tour guide for Crystal Rock Caves. She then was at Wiegel's Point Grocery Store at Rt. 6 and Wahl Rd. She also worked at Industrial Nut. While working at American Crayon Co. in the parcel post room, she met the man she would later marry, Elton Burmeister.
Elton and Ila were married on August 16, 1948 in Covington, Kentucky by Fred K. Read. They were married 55 years until Elton's death on April 6, 2004. She was a homemaker and mother. She had a great love for her family and friends. She also enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, babysitting, playing cards, perch and walleye fishing, and caring for dogs and cats.
Ila is survived by her four sons, Randy (Judy), of Marblehead, Gary (Patty) of St. Petersburg, FL, and Frank and Joseph, both of Sandusky; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Franklin "Boz" Scott; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; and brothers, Owen, and twins, Gene and Glenn.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2019 in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. After viewing, cremation will take place, as was Ila's wishes.
Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18 in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
