Laura Hine is a wife, mother of two, and an avid genealogist. Born and bred in Cleveland, Ohio, she has a deep interest in genealogy and local history. Some have described that interest as a consuming passion - as Laura's children know, she's never seen a cemetery she hasn't stopped at! In her pre-motherhood/genealogy days, Laura was a legal secretary and also an administrative assistant for the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District. Laura began tracing her own family history in 1987 and has successfully traced her ancestors, both easy-to-find and elusive, back to the 1600s in Germany, Poland, Prussia, and Italy. Laura loves to help people find their ancestors and she has spent countless hours freely giving of her knowledge and expertise. Over the years she has been very active on the Cuyahoga County Rootsweb Mailing List and today you will still find her answering questions, giving advice and pointing researchers in the right direction on Facebook. Some of Laura’s projects include: ·

  • Researcher and webmaster of The Cleveland Ohio Pastors and Their Churches website - begun in 2006 ·
  • Researcher and webmaster of FAQ for Research in Cuyahoga County - begun in 2006 ·
  • Cleveland Street Name Changes website - begun in 2006 ·
  • Cuyahoga Marriage Record Index Guide website - begun in 2006 ·
  • Member and researcher of the Cuyahoga Heights Historical Committee since 2010 ·
  • Webmaster of the Cuyahoga Heights Historical Committee website - begun in 2011 ·
  • Administrator of the Cuyahoga Heights Memories Page on Facebook - begun in 2012 ·
  • Assisted with organization and grand opening of the Willow House Historical Museum in Cuyahoga Heights in 2011 ·
  • Webmaster of Cleveland and Its Neighborhoods website - begun in 2011
  • Administrator of the Memories of Tremont - Cleveland's Southside Facebook page - begun in 2014 ·
  • Various presentations at historical societies and genealogy groups (“Digging in Your Dr. Dentons”, “How to Trace your House History”, and “Ohio & Erie Canal”) ·
  • Co-Coordinator of Cuyahoga County USGenWeb website - 2013 to the present

Laura attributes her love of genealogy and history to her Grandpa Nicklas and the many vivid stories he would tell her about his childhood, his family, and the city of Cleveland. Some of these stories led to road trips to Tremont to locate “Dutch Hill," (the site of fabulous sledding on Holmden), and the location of long-ago streets no longer on modern-day maps, such as Minkon Street and Clarence Court where her Grandfather grew up. Laura's genealogy approach is more than accumulating a list of names and dates on a family tree - it's about discovering and telling the story of the day-to-day lives of the ancestors on that tree. Her love of family branches out to all areas of her life. Laura lives in a log cabin surrounded by family, the cherished antiques, photographs and mementoes of family members long passed….and a wonderful “genealogy room” filled with local history books.

Cynthia Turk, CG® is also an avid genealogist. She grew up in Painesville, Ohio, and moved to Willoughby in 1974. One day she was challenged to prove a great great aunt's name. She found the research at the cemetery so enjoyable she continued the search. That was in the early 1990s. She has taken occasional clients since 1995 to find documents and relatives for others, but spent most of her time volunteering. Cynthia is serving her fifth mostly nonconsecutive term president of Lake County (Ohio) Genealogical Society (LCGS). She has been on that board since 1996 in several offices. She is also thrice past-president of North East Ohio Computer-Aided Genealogy Society (NEOCAG). She is a member of Computer Assisted Genealogy Group-Cleveland, Ohio Genealogical Society and its East Cuyhaoga, Columbiana, and Geauga County Chapters. She is a wife and "mother" to five cats. She is a retired Registered Nurse, and a retired Independent Handbell Consultant and director. She enjoys classical music, playing recorder in an early music group, and daydreaming about one day being related to her favorite composter, J.S. Bach. She was very excited to work with Laura Hine on the Cuyahoga County GenWeb project and hopes to make it one of the best.
