Lookup Volunteers

If you own or have access to Cuyahoga County resources and would like to volunteer to do lookups in order to help other researchers find information, please contact the webmaster, include the words "Cuyahoga Lookup" in the subject line, and we will add your name to the lookup page.

Due to copyright issues, we are not suggesting or condoning wholesale copying of materials to share with individuals. Remember that most works published since 1923 are likely copyrighted. We suggest that volunteers who do lookups in copyrighted materials respond to the requester with the name of the book and page numbers in which the surname appears. The requester can then find that source either through inter-library loan or purchase of the book.

When requesting a lookup, please give the full name and dates pertaining to the individual you are researching so that the lookup can be done easily and accurately. Also, be patient while waiting for a reply. Remember that the lookup volunteers may either have the book in their possession, or perhaps they are volunteering to go to the local repository and look for you.

For earlier works that are not copyrighted, you should always offer to cover the expense of copies and postage if the volunteer is willing to make copies for you. Service itself is a volunteer act of kindness, so always be sure to thank your volunteer.
