John Stoika
1936-2013

This Index is dedicated to the memory of John Stoika who conceived of it, planned and chaired the project. It will be completed in his honor. John was extremely active in Cuyahoga Valley Genealogical Society (CVGS) and Computer Assisted Genealogy Group-Cleveland (CAGG). He led bus trips to several research facilities. John directed the Cuyahoga County Archives volunteer group. He was active in planning and carrying out many seminars for Cuyahoga County Council of Genealogical Organizations. Cuyahoga County Lineage Groups and Cleveland District Roundtable were also groups he served with.

Sandra Tremaglio Stoika
1939-2013

On June 25, 2013, six weeks following John's death, Sandra Stoika joined her husband in the hereafter. She was beside John in all his endeavors, and worked tirelessly on most of his projects. She spent many hours digitizing cemetery records for volunteers to index at home.

The Stoikas will both be missed by many friends and relatives, and all the genealogy community. John and Sandy are survived by son David and daughter Susan and many family members.

ABOUT THE RECORDS
This index was derived from index books containing individual typed cards for each interment. The cards were derived from original handwritten records which were maintained until computerization began. There is more information on the cards than is indexed here. The page number given in this index refers to the page number in the "Drawing Book." These drawings are of the lot and include all the people interred in it, up to ten graves. Other interments are in single graves in rows. Most of these were purchased singly so relatives are rarely nearby.

To request records from the cemetery, contact them by mail or e-mail riverside.cemetery@att.net. Please include the complete information from this index in the request. For questions you may call at 216-351-4800.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Riverside Cemetery project started in the Fall of 2009 when at a CVGS Board meeting John and Sandra Stoika encouraged the board about the possibility of indexing Riverside Cemetery. They had contacted Bill Halley, General Manager of Riverside. When Mr. Halley heard of our proposal he agreed and the project started to take shape. Volunteers from CVGS and several different groups and individuals who heard about the project came together and by the Winter of 2009 the project was started. By the end of 2012 all of the records were indexed and about half were proof read. In November of 2012 Greg Kapcar became the new General Manager and he has been great in helping us to continue to finish the project.

A partial (proofed) alphabetical index is now available. Our volunteers have indexed all of the 55,000 records and have proofed 30,000 of the burial records as of May 2013. If you would like to help complete this project please contact the webmaster.
