Champaign County Genealogical Society Bylaws

Article I. NAME

The Name of this organization shall be THE CHAMPAIGN COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY CHAPTER OF THE OHIO GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY.

Article II. PURPOSE

To support the objective of The Ohio Genealogical Society.

To create and build interest in preserving and collecting historical records of Champaign County, and related areas of Ohio.

To encourage active membership in this Champaign County Chapter and in the Ohio Genealogical Society.

To take an active part in collecting records and in making them available for use in genealogical research.

Article III. OFFICERS

The officers of the Chapter shall be President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and Treasurer. They shall be elected for a two year term and may be reelected to successive terms. The election shall be at the November meeting of any year an officer's term is to expire. The officers shall take office at the close of the January meeting. The nominating committee shall be appointed by the Vice-President.

The President shall call meetings of the Chapter and its officers, preside at meetings, and perform duties generally required of this office.

All of the foregoing are for carrying on the work of the Chapter: to operate solely for educational purposes as authorized by Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

That upon dissolution funds and tangible property (assets) of the Champaign County Genealocial Society shall be distributed to the Champign County Historical Society, exempt under section 501 (c) (3) of the Interanl Revenue Code.

In the event that the Champaign County Historial Society has been dissolved prior to the dissolution of the Champaign County Genealogical Society, or is no exempt under 501 (c) (3), the remaining assets shall be distributed to another similar organization with Champaign County or the Ohio Genealogical Society provided said organization is exempt under 501 (c) (3) or the Internal Revenue Code or such other organization that is exempt under said IRS Code.

Article IV.EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The Executive Committee, comprised of all elected officers and the standing committee chairman, shall have charge of all business affairs between meetings. Any member who is a state officer or trustee shall be an ex officio member.

Article V.MEMBERSHIP

Anyone may become a member of this Chapter by completing an application for local membership and paying dues. (At least 15 OGS members are required for a Chapter.)

Article VI. DUES

Annual dues to the Chapter shall be determined by the Executive Committee with the apporval of the Chapter and shall be paid on a calndar year basis.

Article VII. QUORUM

The members present will constitute a quorum after all members have been notified of the meeting, with not less than 5 days prior.

Article VIII.REPRESENTATION

Delegates and alternates of the Chapter shall be elected at the March meeting. The Delegates automatically include Chapter President and Recording Secreatary.

Any member whose Champaign County Chapter dues have not been received by the Treasurer on or before the March meeting shall not be eligible to represent the Chapter or to vote at the General Convention.

The Chapter may elect an alternate for ach voting officer or delegate. If the elected delegates or alternates are unable to represent the Chapter, the President is authorized to appoint members to act as represenatives with the statement to that effect for registering at the General Convention. Based on the number of OGS members on the roll of the Chartered Chapters, one delegate for each 25 OGS members or fraction thereof.

The names of elected delgates and alternates shall be sent by the Chapter Secreatary to the President of the Ohio Genealoical Society following the election fo the delegates. They must be OGS members.

Article IX. BY LAW REVISIONBy-Laws may be revised with the approval of two-thirds of those present at any regular meeting of the Chapter, presented in writing at least 30 days in advance.

*NOTE: The Chapter shall function generally in accordance with Robert's Rules of Order.
