MARPLE (ENOCH MARPLE and ELLEN EMMONS ). From: - ANNE MARPLE (Sep 9, 1999)
Enoch Marple was a
descendant of David Marple, and his wife Jane, Baptist immigrants from
Radnorshire Wales to Penna abt l700 They were English but had probably gone to
Wales to avoid the persecution of Non Conformist congregations at the time.(
David is buried in the Pennypack Baptist graveyard in NE Philadelphia.) Enoch
Marple was born in Va. 1792 served in the War of l812 and migrated west to
Butler Co. Ohio where he was married to Ellen Emmons. b. 28 Jan l800. A family
bible gives his wife's name as Ellen Noble with a different birthdate. This has
puzzled us for years. Perhaps he had an earlier marriage? Leaving Butler Co he
purchased land in Carroll Co Indiana where he lived until abt l860 moving on to
Kansas near Topeka where he died shortly after the census of l880. His wife had
died in l860. I would like to find her parents. I suspect they were Elias Emmons
who married Nancy Covener in 1796.(not the Elias Emmons of Butler Co. who
married Martha Post.)

MCCULLOUGH (Thomas C., Elizabeth Neel) In and around Oxford, & NE
Corner of Fairfield(NW corner Sect 26). From: - Neel McCullough (Mar 3, 2000)
I know
the death dates of Thomas, Elizabeth and Thomas' Brother Samuel.
Don't know
what Cemetary they were buried in. Thomas Died in New Orleans, LA Nov 4.
1811
Elizabeth then remarried his brother Samuel in about 1816. Samuel died
January 19, 1823 in Oxford. Elizabeth died in Oxford May 9, 1952.
Marriage to
Thomas brought forth 4 children,Robert, Jane Eliza and a daughter whose name is
unknown. Union with Samuel brought three more McCullough into the world, Thomas
, Neel & John.
I have the original handwritten marriage license of
Elizabeth and Thomas August 17, 1801.
The trail on Elizabeth turns cold,
before she married, in Pittsburg, PA. According to the License she was from
Allegheny county.
Believe the brothers probably emigrated from around
Dublin, Ireland. Have no confimation of this however.

HOLZAPFEL and SHOOK (John Jacob and Wilhelmenia Shook) Hamilton, Ohio
in 1881. From: - Deborah (Mar 21,
2000)
I am looking for a marriage certificate for JOHN JACOB HOLZAPFEL (born
abt. 1850, Alsace-Lorraine) and WILHELMENIA SHOOK (b. abt. 1844, Berlin,
Germany). They married in Ohio and I believe it was Butler County. They had four
children, LOUIS J., JOHN J., DORA and FREDERICK ERNEST HOLZAPFEL (b. July 1881,
Hamilton, Ohio).
JOHN JACOB HOLZAPFEL was listed in Lucas County, Toledo,
Ohio in the 1874-1876 directories as a brewer. I understand that he left after
that and came down into Butler County, Ohio. According to his "Declaration of
Intent" to become a citizen, JOHN JACOB HOLZAPFEl arrived in the USA the month
of June 1871. I have not been able to find papers on WILHELMENIA SHOOK. I know
that she came from Berlin, Germany with her sisters about the same time as Jacob
did. Can anyone help with the SHOOK's or HOLZAPFEL's in Butler County, Ohio? If
so, please email me at scvolsfan@juno.com Anything could help at this point.
Thank you.
