My gggrandfather EZRA ROUND claims he was born in Butler Co. in Oct. of 1810. We believe his father is Philip Round, b 1770 in PA to Jacob Rownd/Round Sr. who filed for land in Symmes Purchase in 1791 along with Andrew Round. The family stayed in Ft. Cincinnatus at night and farmed land during day.
In 1811, Jacob Round Sr. signed an indenture with 3 of his sons, Jacob Jr., Daniel, and Andrew leaving land or money to his children,
His son Jacob Jr. died in 1819 and will was recorded as Jacob Rowan, concerning his wife Nancy (Miller) Rowan and children,
PHILIP ROUND/ROWND/ROWAN was in the Army as a Scout/spy from 1790-94 and then was in Butler Co. as early as 1803, then was in the Dearborn Co., census of 1820 as Philip Rownd. He was in the Militia in War of 1812. His wife was reported to be Mary Dickinson. He had at least 3 known sons,
Andrew married Charlotta and died in Fountain Co. as a ROWAN.JOSEPH died in 1898 in Tazwell Co., ILL as a ROWAN.
Andrew, son of Jacob Sr Round, married a Elizabeth Drollinger and later became a Rowen. He died in Iowa. Several of his children kept the Round name ( i.e. Philip David Round, b 1810 in Butler Co.) and several went to Rowen (Elihu Rowen).
John Dickinson who married Catherine, was a Revolution veteran. He married her in 1796 in Hamilton Co. Jacob Sr. is also repoted to be a Vet. of the Revolution.
Most of the Rounds moved to Fountain Co., Indiana between 1822 and 1830.
My great-great-grandfather Ezra Round married Elizabeth Scouten in 1837 in Fountain Co., Indiana. Elizabeth was born in Pike County, Ohio in 1818-19. Ezra died in 1895 in Brown Co., KS and was buried in Troy, KS. Ezra Round has stated he was born in Butler Co., Ohio. We believe his father was PHILIP ROUND, b 1770, in Pennsylvania. Philip was a spy/scout in the army in 1790- 1794, and was in militia in war of 1812. Philip was a son of JACOB ROUND/ROWND , one of the first settlers of Hamilton/Butler Co. Jacob signed up for Symmes purchase in 1791 along with Andrew Round.
My great-grandfather, JOHN DICKINSON ROUND, was born in 1839 in White County, Indiana, and married Louisa Lewis. Her father, Sherbon Lewis, was killed by Indians and her mother, Sophronia (O'Harra) Lewis, married Benjamin Franklin Bowman, Methodist Minister, who started the first Methodist church built in Walthern Kansas, and was the first Methodist minister of Troy, Kansas. He raised Louisa.
Benjamin Franklin "BF" Bowman "B. F. BOWMAN was born in 1822 in Rockingham County, Va.; settled in this county in 1856; residence on Section 30, Township 3, Range 22; P. O. Wathena; business, stock-raiser and pastor in Methodist Episcopal Church; has no charge at present. His wife was born in 1826 in Franklin County, Ohio; they were married in Adams County, Ind., in 1852, and have six children -- five sons and one daughter." -- from Bird's 1882 Doniphan County Kansas Plat Book, page 47BF Bowman pastored several churches around Doniphan County, KS. My grandfather was Franklin Perry Round, b1864 in Doniphan Co., Kansas and he and his dad, John Dickinson Round, was in the SOONER LAND RUSH along with ALLEN S. ROUND and WILLIAM PERRY ROUND ( John's brothers). These Rounds and their decendents are named ROUND, ROWND, ROWAN, ROWN or ROWEN.
