Last Will and Testament of Stephen Adams
In the name of God Amen I Stephen Adams of the State of Ohio considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound perfect mind and memory blessed be God for the same do make and publish this my last will and testament in the manner and form following (viz)
After all my just debts and funeral expenses are paid it is my will that a part of my land shall be sold to pay a certain debt contracted by my wife when she was a widow. Beginning at the North West corner also designated Stroups corner on the south bank of Dodson creek then up said creek with my line to the corner of the fence that incloses the bottom field thence south or nearly so the way the fence now runs to the back east & west line supposed to be 60 acres more or less. The above described land is not to be sold if money is provided otherwise to discharge said debt. The remaining part of my real estate and all my good and chattels remaining of what kind and nature so ever ____ be I bequeath unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Adams during her natural life if so long she remains my widow if she marrys after my decease then she is to have her lawful share during her natural life and after her death her said lawful share is to be sold and the avails thereof is to be equally divided among my daughters heirs and step daughters heirs, namely, Hester Stroup, Nancy Hill, Harriet Pugh and step daughter Elizabeth Mary Shawver Saum and the remaining part of my property personal and real is to be sold at public sale and the avails thereof also to be equally divided among my daughters heirs and stepdaughters heirs as aforesaid considering the balance of my children namely James Adams, Joshua Adams, John Adams and Jesse Adams have obtained their share heretofore and providing the money will be obtained from Virginia coming to my wife as an heir of her former husband Christopher Shawver decd. Then of that money I give to my stepdaughter Elizabeth M Saum One hundred dollars and the balance if any is to go to my wife Elizabeth Adams. And lastly I hereby constitute and appoint Charles Henderson to be the executor for this my last will and testament revoking and annulling all former wills by me made and ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 10th day of April 1845.
Signed published and declared by the above named Stephen Adams as and for his last will and testament in presents of us at his request have signed as witness to the same.
