Mrs. Ruby Lee Johnson Passes Away at Home At Portsmouth
Death came with only a brief warning to Ruby Lee Johnson, at her home in Portsmouth, Ohio, about 8 o'clock, Saturday morning. She was the daughter of Charles T. and Lillie Haslam, and was born in Georgetown, Ohio, March 31, 1897, and departed this life May 18, 1918, at the age of twenty-one years, one month and ten days. She grew to womanhood in Georgetown, and on September 12, 1914, was united in marriage to Ernest Johnson. To them was born a little daughter, Doris Marie, who left them April 2, 1917. Ruby has been a constant attendant at Sunday school since childhood, and has always taken an active interest in her class and its activities. A member of the Loyal Daughters class, she was greatly interested in its success, and did much to further its work. Only last Easter she sent a message to her teacher, wishing to be remembered as a Loyal Daughter. June 10, 1910, under the ministry of Rev. Crabtree, she united with the Church of Christ in Georgetown, and retained her membership with that church until called to her reward.
She leaves to mourn her departure her bereaved husband, her sorrowing father and mother, one sister, Maria, and one brother, Harry, besides many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Harvey Kautz, who died April 28, 1907, and two brothers, Charles Francis, aged 2, and William D., aged 1, and an infant member of the family.
The funeral services were held in the Christian church, and were conducted by John G. Quinlan, assisted by Rev. Small, pastor of the church. The large attendance and the beautiful floral offerings bespoke the high esteem in which she was held by her many friends. Interment was made in Confidence cemetery.
