Walker, Diana ~ Wednesday, July 26, 2000. Diana L. Walker, 47, died on July 24. Visitation for family and friends will be tomorrow and Friday, July 27 and 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville. Services will be Saturday, July 29, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville, with burial following at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden. Mrs. Walker was born on Aug. 14, 1952, in Yankton, S.D., to Vernon and Arlene Gleich. She was an alumni of Lutheran High School in Los Angeles, Calif., and lived in Rancho Palos Verdes in San Pedro, Calif., before moving to Gardnerville three years ago. While living in California, Mrs. Walker was employed by Green Hills Mortuary and Memorial park for 16 years and was very active in Girl Scouts and her church youth group. She also ceramics and gardening. Predeceasing Mrs. Walker was her father, Vernon Gleich. Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Archie Walker of Gardnerville; sons Jonathon Walker of Gardnerville; mother Arlene Gleich of Minden; sister Yvonne Arriola of Ranchos Palos Verdes; grandmother Myrtle Gleich of Yankton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Judi and Manuel Cruz of San Diego, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Webster, Dale ~ Wednesday, April 19, 2000. Dale W. Webster, 79, died on April 15 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. He was born in California on May 27, 1920, to Willard and Evelyn French Webster. A resident of Carson City for 11 years, he retired from the Yerington police department after 12 years of service. He had also been a police officer in Barstow, Calif. Mr. Webster is survived by his wife Valeria of Carson City; son Dale W. Webster Jr. of Havasu City, Ariz., daughter Jackie Conklin of Vacaville, Calif., and stepchildren Steven Hurt of Yerington and Jessica King, Sarah Wink and Kelly Allen, all of Carson City; brother Jack Webster of Topaz Ranch Estates; numerous grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Webster, Dorothy ~ Saturday, August 19, 2000. Dorothy Evelyn Webster, 74, died Aug. 16 at the South Lyon Medical Center. She was born in Los Angeles, Calif., on Feb. 22, 1926, to Frank and Evelyn Thomas. She attended schools in North Hollywood, Calif., and married Jack Webster, whom she had known in high school, while in California. Mrs. Webster lived in the Wellington area for the past 26 years and was a member of the Republican Women's Club, Topaz Sage Hens Homemakers and the International Footprinter Association. She is survived by her husband Jack Webster of Wellington; son and daughter-in-law Gary and Fran Webster of Palm Desert, Calif.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In keeping with her wishes, no formal or memorial service will be held. Cremation took place at Carson Sierra Crematory under the direction of Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington.

Welton, Richard ~ Saturday, October 28, 2000. A memorial service for Richard David Welton, 62, will be held today, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Comstock Mobile Home Park Clubhouse on Graves Lane in Carson City. Mr. Welton, a Gardnerville resident for 21 years, died Oct. 22 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. He was born Aug. 21, 1938, in Southgate, Calif., to Clayton and Cletus Bell Welton. He was in the Naval Reserves from 1955 to 1962 and lived in Downey, Calif., before moving to Gardnerville. He worked in building maintenance for the Carson City School District and belonged to the Silver Sage Pistol Club and the Western Nevada Pistol League. Predeceasing Mr. Welton were his wife, Judith Welton, and a sister, Peggy Maves. Survivors include his sons David Welton of Gardnerville, Jeffrey and his wife Renee Welton of Dayton and Alex and his wife Sandy Welton of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sisters Mary Busigin of Dayton, Ruth Kline of Chino, Calif., and Janice Novello of Long Beach, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Westermeyer, William Sr. ~ Wednesday, November 24, 1999. A memorial service for William Edward Westermeyer Sr., 77, will be held at a later date. Mr. Westermeyer died on Nov. 19 at South Lake Tahoe. He was born in Washington, D.C., on April 5, 1922, to Carl and Margaret Westermeyer. He served in the Merchant Marines for three years and in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On Dec. 23, 1948, he and Hazel M. Favre were married in Bethesda, Md. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a cruise to Alaska. A resident of Gardnerville for 23 years, he had lived in Los Gatos, Calif., where he was a member of George E. Tutt Lodge #292 Free and Accepted Masons. Mr. Westermeyer was a cartographer for 25 years with the American Automobile Association in San Francisco and for H.M. Gousha in San Jose, Calif. He loved horse racing. Predeceasing him were his parents and brother, Carl Westermeyer. Survivors include his wife Hazel of Gardnerville; daughter Nancy E. Hahn of Minden and son William E. Westermeyer Jr. of Geneva, Switzerland; and sister Marie M. Westermeyer of Gardnerville.

Whaley, Elda ~ Friday, February 25, 2000. A graveside committal service for Elda Mina "Bobbe" Whaley of Fort Bragg, Calif., will be held at the Garden Cemetery in Gardnerville on March 1 at 1 p.m. Mrs. Whaley died on Feb. 2 at the age of 94. She was born to Henry and Minnie Rosenbrock of Gardnerville on April 1, 1906. After leaving Gardnerville, she moved to Berkeley, Calif., where she was credited with being the first woman dispatcher on their police force. She was preceded in death by her brother Henry and her sisters Greta Rosenbrock and Barbara Idiart. Surviving are Mrs. Whaley's husband Henry; sisters Alice Alexander of Dayton and Betty Azparren of Sparks; and nephew John Rosenbrock of Castro Valley and nieces Jeanette Blanco of Gardnerville and Patricia Rosenbrock of Bemidji, Minn.

Whiteside, Eunice ~ Saturday, May 13, 2000. A graveside service for Eunice P. Whiteside, 71, will be held on Monday, May 15, at 11 a.m. at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden. Rev. Steve Wilson will officiate. Mrs. Whiteside died on May 10 at her Minden home. She was born in Liberty, Mo., on Jan. 6, 1929, to Rolla and Floy Huckaby Stillfield. She was a Minden resident for 10 years, coming from Reno. She retired from the State of Nevada in 1990 after 13 years. Mrs. Whiteside was a devout mother and grandmother who adored her grandchildren. She loved sewing and gardening and was a member of the Carson Valley Christian Center in Minden. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Betty, who died in 1994. Surviving are her son Ken Whiteside and daughter Tammy Bonfiglio, both of Gardnerville, and daughter Sherie Whiteside of Minden; brother Elmer Stillfield of Yerington; and grandchildren Zachary, Hunter, Dakota and Evany.

Willcox, John ~ Saturday, May 6, 2000. John David Willcox, 71, a Gardnerville resident for the past 10 years, died on April 28 at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe. A graveside service was held on May 4 at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden. Mr. Willcox was born in Palo Alto, Calif., on Oct. 18, 1928, to John and Martha Whitaker Willcox. In 1956, he earned a master of arts degree in business education from San Francisco State University. For 27 years, he was a teacher, having taught for 18 years with the Acalanes High School District at Los Lomas and Miramonte in California. He also worked for Meadow Gold Ice Cream, Quaker Oats Co., W.P. McDowell Manufacturing and Sears, Roebuck and Co. as a sales representative. Before moving to Gardnerville he had lived in Walnut Creek, Calif. On March 9, 2000, he and Rebecca C. Martin were married at Lake Tahoe. Mr. Willcox enjoyed sailing and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter. Surviving are his wife Rebecca C. Willcox of Gardnerville; daughter L. Savannah Nash of Gardnerville and son John F. Willcox of Winnemucca; and sister Mary Beth Bruch of Los Altos, Calif.

Willcox, John ~ Wednesday, May 3, 2000. John David Willcox, 71, a Gardnerville resident for the past 10 years, died at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe. A graveside service will be tomorrow, May 4, at 11 a.m. at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.

Williams, Joseph ~ Wednesday, December 29, 1999. Joseph Bernard Williams, 91, died on Dec. 25 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. He was born on May 16, 1908, in Rochester, N.Y., to William and Katherine Johnson Williams. A Gardnerville resident for 20 years, coming from Chatsworth, Calif., Mr. Williams had been involved in the "Skunk Works Project," which was the beginning of the Stealth Bomber. He was very active politically and enjoyed traveling. He was an animal activist and loved his Siamese cat, "Catherine Suzanne Williams." Predeceasing Mr. Williams was his son Joey Williams, who died in 1962 in California, two brothers and two sisters. Surviving are his wife Myrna M. Williams and daughter Diane E. Peel, both of Gardnerville; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Williams, Maxine ~ October 6, 1999. Maxine M. Williams, 84, died on Oct. 3 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. She was born on Nov. 29, 1914, in Ephraim, Utah, to Fred and Emily Christensen Mangelson. For the last two months, Mrs. Williams lived in Minden with her niece Bonnie Hall. She came from Kent, Wash., where she was a member of the 1st Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the senior center and AARP. Before that, Mrs. Williams was secretary for Cedar Green Cannery in Georgetown, Wash., for 15 years and secretary for the Carpenter's Union in Renton, Wash., for 10 years. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Eagles in Renton. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and her husband John Williams, who died in Renton in 1987. Survivors include her brother Robert Mangelson of Spokane, Wash., and niece Bonnie Hall of Minden. A memorial service and internment will be in Renton.

Willis, Gussie ~ Saturday, January 1, 2000. Gussie Willis, a 13-year resident of Douglas County, died Dec. 27 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital at the age of 97. A memorial service was held in Los Angeles, Calif., on Dec. 30. Mrs. Willis was born on July 4, 1902, in Norma, N.J., to Samuel and Sarah Yeslivitch Eskin, Russian immigrants. She cherished her American citizenship, and this devotion gave rise to a lifelong interest in U.S. presidential history. She enjoyed cooking, poetry writing and travel and corresponded regularly with friends and family across the nation. Mrs. Willis was predeceased by her husband, son and four sisters. She is survived by her brother Benjamin Eskin of Los Angeles, daughter-in-law Colleen Willis of Genoa; grandsons Barry Willis of West Hills, Calif., and Jack Willis of Zephyr Cove and granddaughters Valerie Maxey of Norman, Okla, Catherine Willis of Minden and Mickie Hempler of Zephyr Cove; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Wood, Janet ~ Saturday, September 9, 2000. Janet Marie Wood, 41, died on Aug. 28 at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe from complications following surgery. She was born on Sept. 18, 1958, and lived in Gardnerville for 16 years. Mrs. Wood was a homemaker and is survived by her husband Michael Wood and daughter Crystal Myers, both of Gardnerville; her mother Evelyn; brothers and sisters Wesley, Peggy and Michael Moore of Concord, Calif., Debbie Culpepper of Reno and Sandy Greenman of Maryland; and father- and mother-in-law Marv and Freda Wood.

Wyatt, Dabert ~ Wednesday, April 19, 2000. Visitation for Dabert Wyatt, 63, will be held tomorrow, April 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City, where the funeral service will be held on Friday, April 21, at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Genoa Cemetery, followed by a dinner at the Dresslerville Gym in Dresslerville. Mr. Wyatt, a lifelong resident of Gardnerville, died on April 16 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. He was born on Dec. 23, 1936, to Robert and Lesha Coleman Wyatt. He was a Vietnam veteran, having served two tours in the Army. He volunteered for the second tour of duty to keep his brother Harold from having to go, but they were both sent. Mr. Wyatt enjoyed running and camping, and he loved outdoor activities and being with his family and his dogs. He was past vice-chairman of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California, past chairman of Douglas County democratic Central Committee, past trustee of Carson Valley Historical Society and a board member for Washoe Development Enterprise and for the Washoe Housing Authority. He also served on S.I.T.E. Council for Washoe Tribe Senior Citizen Center. Predeceasing Mr. Wyatt were his parents and brother Harold. Survivors include his brothers Vernon Wyatt, Robert Wyatt and Lloyd Wyatt, all of Gardnerville, Daniel Wyatt of Woodfords and Floyd Wyatt of Reno; sisters Barbara Zieroth, Doris W. Buckhart and Kathie Wyatt, all of Gardnerville, and Victoria J. Wyatt of Reno; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
