Bankofier, Sharon ~ Saturday, October 14, 2000 A memorial service for Sharon Adams Bankofier, 64, will be held today, Oct. 14, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Winnemucca. Inurnment will follow at the Winnemucca Cemetery. Mrs. Bankofier died on Oct. 9 in Gardnerville. She was born on Feb. 1, 1936, in Nampa, Idaho, to Afton and Maisie Adams. She graduated from Humboldt County High School in 1954 and from the Reno Business College. On Aug. 18, 1957, she married Donald Bankofier in Winnemucca. A resident of Winnemucca for 58 years, Mrs. Bankofier was a Humboldt County courthouse employee for five years and a legal secretary for the law office of John Doyle for 29 years. She was a member of the Ladies Bowling League, the Ladies Golf Club and the Ladies Booster Club and St. Paul's Catholic Prayer Group, all in Winnemucca. Mrs. Bankofier was predeceased by her father in 1968 and is survived by her husband Donald and mother Maisie Oswalt, both of Winnemucca; daughters Tami Ashdown of Gardnerville and Teresa Benjamin of Littleton, Colo., and son Ron Bankofier of Minden; brothers John Adams of Fairview, Mont., and Stefen Adams of Berkeley, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Bass, Don R. ~ Wednesday, September 27, 2000. Don R. Bass, 88, died on Sept. 24 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. He was born in Springfield, Mo., on Feb. 21, 1912, to Clyde and Elain Spear Bass. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Bass was a mining exploration driller. A resident of Wellington, and formerly of Tonopah, he enjoyed watching sports on television. In 1997, he was predeceased by his wife Jeannette, whom he married in December of 1962. Also preceding him in death were his two brothers and two sisters. Surviving is his stepdaughter, Nicole Bower of Soldotna, Alaska.

Bauer, Dolly M. - Nevada Appeal - Saturday, April 29, 2000. Dolly M. Bauer, 88, a Carson City resident for the past five years, died April 27, 2000, at Carson Convalescent Center. She was born May 24, 1911, in Los Angeles to Clarence and Marjorie Burlingame Bauer. She graduated from Los Angeles High School. Before moving to Carson City, she lived in Reseda, Calif. for 30 years. Miss Bauer owned and operated a bar. Among her survivors are her friend Katherine Gillespie of Carson City.

Benjamin, Charlotte ~ Saturday, July 15, 2000. Charlotte Joan Benjamin, 68, died on July 11 in Minden. She was born in McCook, Neb., on Oct. 3, 1931, to Sidney and Thelma Wood Hiner. She was a secretary for Rockwell International for 40 years, and had lived in Atascadero, Calif., before moving to Minden 10 years ago. Mrs. Benjamin was a member of the Quota Club in Atascadero and the Carson Valley Community Church. She enjoyed crocheting and reading. Surviving are her husband Don Benjamin of Minden; son William H. Benjamin of Paso Robles, Calif., and daughter Twyla K. Gilliam of Mission Viejo, Calif.; brother Gary Hiner of Phoenix, Ariz., and sisters Cherie Rheinhart of Denver, Colo., Bonnie Baller of Justin, Calif., and Linda Falter of Boise, Idaho; and five grandchildren.

Benson, Andrea ~ Wednesday, March 22, 2000. Andrea Benson, 30, of Dayton died March 16 in Gardnerville. Mrs. Benson is a former resident of Gardnerville and a graduate of Douglas High School. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 25, at 1 p.m. at FitzHenry's Funeral Home, 8933 N. Edmonds Dr., Carson City. Survivors include her husband Grey of Dayton; parents Anke and Robert Hagedorn of and brother Pete Hagedorn, all of Gardnerville. Beres, Joseph ~ Wednesday, July 19, 2000. Joseph E. Beres, 85, died on July 15 at Carson Health Care in Carson City. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville. Father Bill Nadeau will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be at Genoa Cemetery. Mr. Beres was born on March 18, 1915, in Gary, Ind., to John and Anna Lukacs Beres. He worked for U.S. Steel in Gary for 21 years and was a longtime member of the Hungarian Club there. He was a Gardnerville resident for 22 years, coming from Northridge, Calif. Mr. Beres loved dancing and reading. He was predeceased by his wife Betty, who died in 1997, and brothers John and Robert Beres. Surviving are his sons James R. Beres of Gardnerville, David J. Beres of Genoa and Jerry Beres of Fallbrook, Calif., and daughter Carole Uebe of Red Lake Falls, Minn.; brother Edward K. Beres of Sun City West, Ariz., and sister Ann Shimko of Wheatfield, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Biggin, Gregory - Nevada Appeal - Saturday, April 29, 2000. A funeral for Gregory Biggin, 50, a long-time Carson City resident, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley. Mr. Biggin died April 26, 2000, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born March 4, 1950, in in Newton, Mass. Mr. Biggin was reared in Carson City where he dedicated his life to law enforcement. He started out as a sheriff's cadet at age 19 and retired as a chief deputy sheriff in 1994. He spent several years as a member and supervisor of the Carson City Sheriff's Department Aero Squadron. He was preceded in death by his mother Doris Hayward and his wife Laurie Ann in December 1984. Among his survivors are his father Charles of Burlingame, Calif.; sister Gail Weiss of Pennsylvania and brother Ted of Carson City. Internment will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery.

Blake, Edward ~ Wednesday, October 25, 2000. A Funeral Mass will be held for Edward J. Blake, 77, on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson City. Mr. Blake died on Oct. 21 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. He was born in St. Louis, Mo., on July 15, 1923, to George and Bessie Schenk Blake. Mr. Blake was a self-employed financial consultant. He is survived by his wife Dolores Blake of Carson City; sons Edward J. Blake Jr. of Milpitas, Calif., Steven Blake of Davis, Calif., and Donald Blake of Plano, Texas; and six grandchildren.

Blanton, Lois ~ Wednesday, September 13, 2000. A Memorial Mass for Lois M. Blanton, 66, will be held on Friday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. at St. Gall Parrish Hall in Gardnerville, with Father Bill Nadeau presiding. Mrs. Blanton died on Sept. 7 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. She was born in Marionthall, Kan., on April 19, 1934, to Mervyn and Esther Schmidt Crouse. A resident of Gardnerville for 17 years, Mrs. Blanton came from Winnemucca, where she was a longtime member of BPW. She worked at Caesars Lake Tahoe and was always one of the volunteers for the holiday programs for the needy. She loved cooking and was a member of St. Gall Catholic Church. Mrs. Blanton was predeceased by her father. Survivors include her mother Irene Crouse of Yerington; husband Clyde Blanton of Gardnerville; son Nathan Blanton and wife Lori of Winnemucca; daughters Marla Sherwood of Gardnerville and LaVonna Ghanavati and Donna Johnson, both of Reno; brothers Mark Crouse of Carson City and Dwight Crouse of Wyoming; sisters Kathy Crouse of Michigan, Myrna McGowan of Yerington, Carol Turner of Fallon and Norma Sacchini of Bakersfield, Calif.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Blatt, Michael Peter ~ Wednesday, February 9, 2000. A memorial gathering will take place Feb. 12 at South Lake Tahoe for Michael Peter Blatt, who died Jan. 10, in London, England. He was 59. Mr. Blatt was a native of London and a former 15-year resident of South Lake Tahoe. He had lived the life of a traveling musician in Israel, Greece, France and Germany before coming to South Lake Tahoe in 1982. Local residents may remember him playing guitar and bantering with his audience. Mr. Blatt returned to London in 1995 to care for his ailing mother. Survivors include his mother, Ann; his sister, Leila; and numerous friends. Mr. Blatt was buried in London at the Waltham Abbey Jewish Cemetery with Jewish services on Jan. 21, and a memorial service took place at Rosslyn Hill Unitarian Chapel Jan. 24.A memorial gathering of Mr. Blatt's friends in South Lake Tahoe has been scheduled Saturday, Feb. 12, at 10:30 a.m.

Bledsoe, Emily ~ Saturday, January 22, 2000. Emily Phyllis Bledsoe, 83, died on Jan. 18 in Gardnerville. She was born in Peakaboo, Idaho, on March 24, 1916, to Laffayette and Mary Adamson Killingsworth. She was a resident of Gardnerville for 40 years, coming from San Gabriel, Calif. Mrs. Bledsoe had been a legal secretary. She was preceded in death by her husband Cordell J. ("C.J.") Bledsoe in 1986 and brother Bert Killingsworth. Surviving are her daughter Susan C. Crocker of Gardnerville and sons Todd Hull Bledsoe of Salmon, Idaho, Robert K. Bledsoe of San Francisco and Alan Lenard Bledsoe of Reno; sister Merle Eddy of Napa, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Boling, Verda ~ September 25, 1999. Verda Onilla Boling, 89, died on Sept. 22 at her Minden home. She was born in Celina, Texas, on April 30, 1910, to Andrew and Martha Hawkins Peterman. Before moving to Minden 3-1/2 years ago, Mrs. Boling resided for over 60 years in Ft. Worth, Texas. She was a member of the Fort Worth Baptist Church and a founding member of Northside Women's Club. She was also an active member of the Fort Worth Lady Elks #124. Mrs. Boling was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, M.Z. Thompson, and husband of 12 years, Jim Boling, and son Dick Anthony of Fort Worth. Surviving are her daughters Marva Duckworth of Minden and Gail Bauer of Pleasanton, Calif., and step-daughter Kathy Hampton of Florida; five grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two nieces and two nephews.

Bond-Jackson, Valerie ~ Wednesday, December 8, 1999. A memorial service for Valerie Eileen Bond-Jackson, 75, will be held Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. at Alpine Christian Community Church in Woodfords, Calif. Mrs. Bond-Jackson, a Markleeville, Calif., resident for 13 years, died in Carson City on Dec. 5 at the age of 75. She was born on Feb. 2, 1924, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, to John and Elizabeth Robb Neff. She had lived in Osceola and Des Moines, Iowa, and in Reno. Surviving are her husband Robert M. Jackson of Markleeville; sons Ugene Samuel "Sam" Bond Jr. of Forest Lake, Minn., and Jeffrie Bond of Grangeville, Idaho, and daughters Susan Bond-Roberts of Gardnerville and Julie Norton of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; brother Wendell Neff of Spokane, Wash., and sisters Wanda Lee Paschall of Camdenton, Mo., and Glenna Leeper of Anderson, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Bowers, Eugene ~ Wednesday, May 10, 2000. Eugene P. Bowers, 94, died on May 5 at Barton Skilled Nursing in Gardnerville. He was born on Nov. 29, 1905, in San Francisco. Mr. Bowers was a Gardnerville resident for 3 months, coming from Sunnyvale, Calif. He was a master craftsman in the construction industry for 80 years. He was a passionate gardener, and he loved to travel. He was a great storyteller, and he was proud to be a Mason for many years. His wife Babetta Bowers predeceased him in 1999. Surviving are his sons Jerry Moore of Campbell, Calif., and Wally Brown, also of California, and daughters Bonnie Daly of Durango, Colo., and Sherry Battaglia of Atherton, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in the Bay area at a later date.

Boyd, Charles ~ Wednesday, February 9, 2000. A memorial service for Charles Ivan Boyd, 62, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville, with Father Bill Nadeau presiding. Mr. Boyd died on Feb. 5 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Reno.He was born in Montebello, Calif., on Sept. 1, 1937, to Charles and Ora Hurt Boyd. He attended the University of California at Los Angeles for three years and served with the U.S. Air Force for four years. Mr. Boyd owned and managed the New Fern Guest Home in Rosemead, Calif., for 35 years, and lived in Covina, Calif., before moving to Gardnerville four years ago. He was a dedicated member of the March of Dimes and was awarded a plaque for 25 years of service. On Oct. 25, 1994, he and Shirley Mae "Nikki" Kapperman were married at the Grand Canyon. Mr. Boyd was an avid golfer and loved traveling. Predeceasing him were his parents and brother Dale Boyd. Survivors include his wife Shirley Mae "Nikki" of Gardnerville; daughter Alanna Miller of Granada Hills, Calif.; nephews Rick Boyd of Walla Walla, Wash., and Mark Boyd of Redding, Calif.; and two grandsons.

Boyes, Michele ~ Saturday, June 24, 2000. Michele Louise Boyes, 75, a former Carson Valley resident, died on June 19 at her home in Dallesport, Wash. She was born Aug. 7, 1924, in Gary, Ind., to Fred and Ann Hazen Tiedge and grew up in Indiana. She worked as a machinist prior to moving to Nevada in her 30s. In April 1996, she married Gordon Boyes in Lyle, Wash., and the couple made their home in Dallesport until her death. Mrs. Boyes was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling, particularly taking trips to ocean beaches. She was a member of the Miracle Mountain Chapel congregation in Lyle. She is survived by her husband Gordon; son Larry Michael Clark of Silver Springs, Nev., and daughters Dixie Lee Songer of Niles, Mich., Nancy Danielle McCune, Victoria Elaine Carter and Linda Christine Allerman, all of Gardnerville; sister Ruth Waltz of Lyle and brothers Louis and Fred Tiedge of South Bend, Ind., and Arizona, respectively; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. A funeral service is being held today, June 24, at 2 p.m. at Smith Callaway Chapel in The Dalles, Ore., with Rev. William Waltz presiding. Interment will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery in The Dalles.

Brand, William ~ Wednesday, March 15, 2000 A memorial service for William James Brand, 76, will be held on Tuesday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at the Carson Valley Inn Chapel. Mr. Brand died at his home in Gardnerville on Feb. 27. FitzHenry's of Gardnerville handled arrangements.

Brand, William ~ Wednesday, March 8, 2000. William James Brand, 76, died on Feb. 27 at his Holbrook Station home. Mr. Brand was born in Hubbard, Texas, on May 30, 1923, to James and Nellie Moore Brand. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1947.On June 30, 1986, he and Sylvia F. Easter were married in Tonopah. Before moving to Holbrook Station 12 years ago, he lived in Lake Isabella, Calif. Mr. Brand enjoyed walking and traveling. He is survived by his wife Sylvia; daughter Sue Raye of Whitney, Texas; sister May Dell Campbell of Covington, Texas; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Brannon, James ~ Saturday, September 9, 2000. James Vernon Brannon, 86, a Walker resident for three years, died on Sept. 4 at his home. A graveside service was held yesterday, Sept. 8, at Antelope Valley Cemetery in Coleville, Calif. Rev. Kenneth H. Hotchkiss officiated. Mr. Brannon was born on Oct. 22, 1913, in Mountain View, Okla. He loved his family and the outdoors, and fishing and hunting were his lifelong hobbies. Survivors include his wife Amy K. Brannon of Walker; daughters Kathy Mandichak and Sue Carpenter, both of Walker; grandchildren Cindy White and Bob Carpenter, both of Walker, Connie Helms of Gardnerville and Jim Thompson of Spearfish, S.D.; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Brubeck, Kimberley ~ Wednesday, January 12, 2000. Kimberley Rae Brubeck, 35, daughter of Sabra Brubeck Isaacs of Gardnerville and William Brubeck of Austin, died of cancer on Dec. 22, 1999. She was born in Oakland, Calif., and began her school years at Zephyr Cove Elementary School. She graduated high school at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, Calif., and worked in Florida for a time before transferring to Austin, Texas, in 1991. Beside her parents, Ms. Brubeck is survived by her 4-year-old son, Hunter Brubeck, three brothers, one sister and several nieces and nephews.

Bush, Helen ~ December 11, 1999. A funeral service for Helen Louise Bush, 92, will be held today, Dec. 11, at Todd Memorial Chapel in Pomona, Calif., with burial at Pomona Valley Memorial Park. Mrs. Bush, a Genoa resident for two years, died in Carson City on Dec. 6. She was born in Painted Post, N.Y., on Sept. 21, 1907, to Leslie and Lena VanDus Dibble. She had lived in Claremont, Calif., for 12 years, and had been a dental hygienist. Mrs. Bush was a member of EBELL, Pomona Valley Hospital Auxiliary, the American Association of Dental hygienists and the University of California Alumni Association. She was a member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church. Mrs. Bush's husband, Bevereley F. Bush, died in June 1985 in Pomona. She is survived by her daughter Janet Maas and her husband John of Genoa, son Robert Bush and his wife Nancy of Arcadia, Calif.; grandchildren Jennifer Hooper, Bradley Mass, Susan Paschall, Laurie Sterling and David Bush; and eight great-great grandchildren.
