BAIRD, and her mother was Eliza RYLER. I believe she was from Atlantic City, NJ, well at least she was married there. Edna R. BAIRD was married on April 19, 18999 at the First Methodist Church in Atlantic City, by Pastor George S. Meseroll. She married Abden Abbott OSBORN. They had one child, Alta OSBORN. I have no dates on Alta. The story has it that Edna died soon after Alta was born, and Abdon gave Alta to his in-laws to raise, becuase he had no way to work and provide for Alta at the same time. Alta and her grandparents were supposed to have moved to Philadelphia, PA., where they raised Alta. Abdon went on to marry again in 1903 to Lucreda Hale Osborn DILKS. My mother (granddaughter of Abdon A. OSBORN) remembers as a child going to visit Alta, with her grandparents. Alta R. OSBORN married Emory H. BROOKS and we believe they lived their entire life in Camden, Camden County, NewJersey, possible at 113 Terrace Avenue. We don't know if Emory and Alta BROOKS had any children. When my grandfather, Abdon Russell OSBORN, died on July 4, 1977 at the Salem County Memorial Hospital in Manington Township, Salem County, NJ, his obit stated he was survived by a sister, Alta BROOKS, of Camden, NJ. HAMLER was born in Sussex County. Nicolaus Jr. had come from Gemmingen, Germany at the age of 17; the family's first stop was New York City, but they moved swiftly southward to Six-Mile-Run on the Raritans in Somerset County, New Jersey. The HAMLER family was to spend generations in New Jersey. If you find a "HAMLER," it is most likely a relative of mine. The name is often mispelled as "HAMBLER," "HOMBLER" and "HOMLER." Uriah LOPER was probably born in 1760, probably to a Baptist family, and probably in Pittsgrove Township to William LOPER. Uriah LOPER moved with his young family, including son Daniel LOPER (born 1797 in Salem County), to Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Uriah LOPER died in Tioga County, PA, in 1843. Uriah LOPER's wife was Rebeca LOPER (maiden name unknown). Can anyone provide me with information on Uriah LOPER, where and when born, parents, or any information. Joseph was then disowned by the Quaker church for marrying out of the faith. He soon left the area around 1765. On 27 July 1769, Joseph and Mary PLEDGER sold Netherland Farm to his uncle Robert JOHNSON. I would like to find evidence showing where Joseph and Mary PLEDGER moved after they left Salem. It is thought that they moved to North Carolina. One cousin of mine thinks they moved to Granville Co. North Carolina and had at least two sons Thomas PLEDGER and Murrell PLEDGER. Murrell may have been born in New Jersey, but Thomas was born in Granville Co. NC.

My father was born there in February 1917. BISHOP who were married on 27 August 1837 in Salem Co., NJ.  THis may have been Daniel JARMAN's second marriage.  Daniel and Mary had a son, George Chester, who was born in Bridgeton, NJ on 5 April 1861.  George married Anna Foster CROWELL and had two sons.  Daniel JARMAN had other children, most likely from his previous marriage.  They were Hannah A. (born in Salem, NJ), Robert (born in Salem, NJ), and Isabella B. (born in Salem, NJ) who married Domingo R. DIRUBE (born in Spain).  Isabella and Domingo DIRUBE resided in Millville, NJ.  They had no children.  Isabella B. JARMON may have possibly been from the union of Daniel and Mary C. JARMAN also.  Daniel JARMAN's occupation was that of a brick mason.  Would also like to have information on the descendants of the Hannah and Robert and also on Daniel JARMAN's first wife.  Where are Daniel, Mary, Isabella, Robert and Hannah buried?

JEFFERS/JEFFRIES, WILLIAMS --  Helen Jeffers Mon 19 Oct 1998 16:43:33 -- I am searching for Joseph JEFFERS/JEFFRIES born abt 1830, married Jane WILLIAMS 19 May 1856.  They lived in Bayside, Greenwich, NJ.  He was a Civil War Veteran in Company F 24th NJ Inf. 3rd Regiment and a farmer.  He died 3 July 1869 and is buried in Greenwich Baptist Church Cemetery.  He was not married in Cumberland County and I have no record of his parents.

KIGER/GEIGER, HALTER --  Joan M. Young Thu 3 Dec 1998 18:15:13 -- I am interested in contacting any descendants of the Salem County KIGER family -- from any branch of this family.  To my knowledge all Salem County KIGERs can trace their lineage to Matthias GEIGER (later KIGER) and his wife Anna Maria HALTER who emigrated from Lembach, Alsace, France, in 1738 on the Snow Two Sisters.  I am willing to share any information I have on this family.

MATLACK (born 2/24/1840), Abigail MATLACK (born about 1844), Martha MATLACK (born about 1846), Mary G. MATLACK (born 3/1850), Joseph MATLACK (born about 1853), William B. MATLACK (born 3/19/1857), and John MATLACK (born 1/1860).  I would welcome any and all information on the ancestors or descendants of this family.

MURPHY --  Joanie (Thomson) Hartman Thu 26 Feb 1998 22:46:05 (Updated 14 Jan 1999)-- I am researching John MURPHY, born ca. 1835 probably in Salem, New Jersey.  Possible parents:  Thomas and Ann MURPHY.  Possible siblings: Terese and Thomas. He later was a policeman in Brooklyn, NY.  Was married to a woman named Ann and so far I am aware of three sons:  Thomas J., John and Peter. John Sr. appeared on 1880 NY. King Co. census as a policeman.  I am speculating he might have been related to Charles F. MURPHY, Tammany Hall Boss...maybe an Uncle or Cousin...as the family resemblence between Charles F. MURPHY and my father was very strong.  Can anyone make sense of these tidbits?

PENTON, THOMPSON --  Mike Marshall Tue 24 Feb 1998 08-41:28 -- A ship called the "Greyhound" Joseph Wasey, Master, loaded in London from 11 Apr to 31 May 1677 for New Jersey and arrived in the Delaware in October 1677.  One of the passengers was William PENTON who later shows up in the records of Salem County, NJ.  He may have been a Quaker.  Interested in exchanging data on this line.  Also interested in the families of John and Andrew THOMPSON, Quakers who arrived in the Salem County area with their families in 1677.

Edward Lay Tue, 18 May 1999 11:10:06 -- My wife's 6th GGF Conrad CODER, Sr., came to America from Germany on 16 Sep 1751 and died in 1793 in Northampton Co, PA.  I have his children as Conrad Jr., Catharine, Elizabeth, Catharine (Mrs. Martin CONRAD), and Agatha (Mrs. Philip LESSIG).  My wife then desends from Conrad, Jr's, daughter Anna Maria CODER (c 1774-1825) who married Johan Georg HOHENSCHILDT, Jr. (1772 Montgomery Co, NY-1810) son of Johan Georg HOHENSCHILDT (1742 Salem Co, NJ-1822) and Anna Elizabetha WAGNER (c1750-1825) daughter of LTC Johann Peter WAGNER (1722-1813) Deputy Commander of Palatine Regt. who fought before Saratoga against the British in the Revolutionary War. Possibly the  randfather of Johan Georg HOHENSCHILDT (1742-1822) was Johann Adam HOHENSCHILT who arrived in America from near Pungstadt, Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, on Ship Harle on 1 Sep 1736, lived in Deerfield Twp, Cumberland Co, and Stow Creek Tp, Salem Co, NJ, and died 4 Sep 1754. Johann Adam HOHENSCHILT is believed to have had the following brothers who lived in Amwell Tp, Hunterdon Co, NJ:  Johannes, Jacob, and Mathias.

IVINS --  Patricia M. Bergener Thu 14 Jan 1999 12:28:33 -- Henry IVINS b. Jan 1610/11, Jamestown, VA colony; son of Henry IVINS and his wife (unnamed, who died the following Jan.).  "At the age of 19, Henry Jr went up the Delaware to Racoon Creek, and started a trading post with the Indians.  He sold the furs he rec'd to the commercial company of Gabrey & Sons in New Ansterdam (NYC).  In 1645, he purchased a lot from the Indians at Penn's Neck.  He found a woman to marry (was she an Indian or a Swede?), their first child was Daniel, followed by 6 more children.  Daniel IVINS married a woman from the Fenwich group and left his father's plantation in 1678.  He purchased land near his father's in Penn's Neck.  In Nov 1680, their first child, Isaac IVINS was born,  In 1688, Daniel purchased 10 more acres of land along Salem Creek, the western boundary of Salem."  I am looking for verification on Henry and Daniel IVINS; who were their wives and who were the other children?  The descendants of Isaac IVINS is pretty well documented, he became quite a prominent figure in Burlington Co., NJ and fathered 13 children, but his ancestry is very sketchy.  I  live not far from Jamestown and have been unable to find any record of individuals named IVINS.

KELLY, HOPMAN(HOFFMAN) --  Gary Kelley Wed 6 Jan 1999 06:16:36 -- Malachi KELLY diedk 2/1/1783 in Manington, Salem Co., NJ.  He married (1) Catherine (?) (Source: Trinity PE Church, Swedesboro) chd. were Anne, Joseph, and James.  He married Mary HOPMAN (HOFFMAN) 1/5/1767 in Trinity PE Church, Swedesboro.  Chd. Rebecka, Mary, Catherine, Sarah and Jessee (Jessee being my direct.)  Malacki will of 2/1/1783 left estate for youngest to be educated (Mary, Jessee and Rebecka).  On 1794 Mar 18, KELLY, Jessi of Gloucester Co. Ward, Son of Malachi KELLY, of said couty dec'd said ward being out of the wardship of his guardian in Soccage, makes choice of John HOFFMAN"  First I am confused in Mannington was or is in Gloucester or Salem, is there in cemeteries in Mannington of that era, if there is somplace I could research where Malacki bought his property, or if anyone knows anything about the KELLYs or HOFFMANs of that region?  My research has led me to know (I think) all the KELLYs in NJ in late 1700s and early 1800s.  Willing to help anyone else looking for a KELLY.

SEARCH FOR SIMM'S POINT NATIONAL CEMETERY --  Vera Reeves Fri 29 Jan 1999 23:49:17 -- I'm trying to find out if there is a list of the Confederate Soldiers that died at Fort Delaware and are buried in the Simm's Point National Cemetery in Salem, New Jersey.  I understand there is a marker that has all their names on it.
