SMITH/MELLIGAN
Nathan D. SMITH, b. abt 1834d. aft 1900. m. abt 1859 Catherine
MELLIGAN, b. 1831. He was a shoemaker in Bethlehem Township, Milford and
Frenchtown. In the 1860 and 1870 census, a girl named Electra
ROCKEFELLOW, b. abt 1852, was enumerated with them. She later married
Sylvanus S. HIGGINS.
Who were Nathan's parents? Is there a connection to the many men named SMITH who were listed as shoemakers in the 1860 census, including George A. SMITH? Or, was there a local industry in Hunterdon County for shoemakers?
Was Catherine MELLIGAN married earlier to a ROCKEFLLOW? Looking to connect with any descendants of this couple as well as any SMITH researchers.
