LORENTZ/LOWRENCE: Seeking information on the family identified in
, by Henry Z. Jones, Jr., Fellow
of the American Society of Genealogists. (Family spelling also listed
as Laurence, Laurens, Lorenz, and Lowrence.) The father of the several
members of the family who settled in colonial NY and NJ was Johann Adam
Lorentz of Ehlscheidt, who died there 17 Dec. 1732, aged more than 60 years.
With his wife Eva, he had the following children: Georg Wilhelm, bpt. 1695;
Johann Peter, bpt. 1697; Johann Wilhelm, bpt. 1698; Anna Gertrudt, bpt. 1701;
Maria Catharina, bpt. 1704; Johann Adam, bpt. 1708, Johann Peter, bpt. 1710.
According to church records, Georg, Adam and William arrived in NY and NJ
during the early 1730s, settling in Hunterdon Co., NJ. Thanks!
