Early Settlers
Note – Most early settlement was along the rivers since there were no roads, as we know them. Basically trails wound through the thick woodlands. As time progressed more people moved further inland. Roads slowly connected towns along with the railroad. We think of New Jersey as pretty civilized. However some parts of the jersey shore were pretty isolated for longer than most of the state.
