This is copied from " Isaac Willey of New London, CT, & His Descendants, by Henry Willey, 1888, New Bedford, MA. On 8/6/98, I have added information on # 93, which was sent by Frances Taber. I have also added information sent by Roxanne Fowler, for # 68. I have also added information on # 24, from Olive Richardson, sent 9/23/98. I have omitted what I considered either irrelevant or duplications of information. I will add more as time and energy permit. Elaine Merrell

FIRST GENERATION
Isaac Willey (1)
was of Boston, MA, as early as 1640, and removed to Charlestown, MA, before 1644. All that is known about him are the records of his children given by Savage and the Boston Records of birth etc. He had a wife Joanna, who died in New London, CT, where he married after 1670 Anna, widow of Edward Lester. She died 1692. In 1645 he went with John Winthrop, Jr, to New London. children:

SECOND GENERATION

2 I. Joanna, (2) birth not recorded. Ms. Calkins says she was 2nd w. of Robert Hempstead, who d. New London in June, 1655, after which she became 2nd w. of Andrew Lester, but Savage doubts the existence of Such a dau. in the household of Willey, or such a w. in either Hempstead or Lester.

3 II. Isaac (2) bapt. Boston, Aug 2, 1640; m. there June 8, 1660 Frances, dau. of Edward Burcham, of Lynn. Removed to New London where he d. Aug, 1662, and his wid. m. 2nd 1662, Clement Minor. She d. Jan 6, 1672-3, he d. Oct 1700.

4 III Hannah (2) bapt. in Boston, Mar. 6, 1641-2; m. at New London as his 2nd w. Thomas Hungerford, of NL., as early as 1657, who d. 1663. Of his 3 chil. , Thomas, Sarah and Hannah, (b. May 1, 1659, and who m. a Mr. Ross of Long Island,) the last was dau. of this wife. She m. 2nd Peter Blatchford of N. L. and went with him to Haddam, where he d. Sept. 1, 1671. They had 3 chil. Peter, Hannah and Joanna. She m. 3rd in 1673, Samuel Spencer of Millington, where she d. abt. 1681, after which Spencer m. the wid. of her brother John Willey.

5 IV Sarah, (2), b at Charlestown, MA, June 19, 1644; m perhaps as his 2nd w. John Terrall (Tyrall), of N.L. in 1662, who d. Feb. 27, 1711-12; and she d. Mar 7, succeeding. They had 2 chil, William and Mary, bapt May 7, 1671.

6 V. Mary (2), b abt 1648; m Samuel Tubbs, who applied for permission to remain in N. L. in 1663. He d. 1696, and she was living in 1725, being age 77. They had 6, chil: Mary, Bethia, both bapt in May 1671; Samuel, bapt July 1672; William, bapt May 1674; Dorcas, bapt March 2, 1689; and Joseph, bapt. Sept 3, 1696.

7 VI John (2), b at N>L> abt 1648, m there Mar. 18, 1668-9, Miriam , dau. of Miles and Isabel (Joyner) Moore. He d. at Haddam, May 2, 1688. She m. 2nd in 1689, Samuel Spencer.

8 VII Abraham (2), b at N.L. perhaps abt. 1650; m Elizabeth, dau of Thomas and Elizabeth Mortimer, of N.L.. Savage says he d. at Haddam in 1692, leaving widow Elizabeth and 3 chil.

9 I Isaac (3), b at N.L. Jan. 18, 1670-1; bapt. there 19 Apr. 1671; m at Lyme, CT, Dec. 14, 1697, Rose Bennet, and appears by deed of York, ME, records. m 2nd Sarah, dau. of William Ashfell, late of Yarmouth, ME. He seems to have been living in 1751.

10 II Isabel (3), b at N.L. Oct 21, 1663; bapt. Nov. 24, 1673.

11 III John (3), b at N.L. Feb. 24, 1674-5, bapt. Mar. 24,; m. at East Haddam, Oct. 1698, Elizabeth, dau. of John Harvey, of N.L., who was b. abt. 1680. He d. June 19, 1754 at Hadley Lyme.

12 IV Miriam (3), b. at N.L., Nov. 1, 1677; bapt. June 9, 1678.

13 V Allen (3), b. at N.L. June 25, 1680; bapt. Nov. 14, 1680.

14 VI Abel (3), b. at N.L. Mar. 3, 1682-3; bapt. Apr. 29, 1683; m. at East Haddam, July 17, 1703, Hannah Bray, who d. bef. Mar. 25, 1733; m. 2nd at N.L. Martha Miner. She is mentioned in his will, dated Apr. 17, 1746, and proved Oct. 2, 1752.

15 VIII Mary (3), b. at N.L. Dec. 10, 1685; m. there Feb. 11, 1706-7, John, s. of Thomas and Lucretia (Dudley) Holmes, who was b. Mar. 11, 1686-7. She m. 2nd as his 2nd w. June 1, 1736, Samuel Andrews of East Haddam.

24 VI Abel (4), b. at L. Aug. 28, 1709; m. bef. Feb. 6, 1739-40, Patience, dau. of Samuel and Sarah Beckwith, of E.H.. who was bapt. there June 1, 1718, the youngest child of her father, who had d. Dec. 22, 1745; m. at E.H., May 7, 1730, Mehitable, dau. of Lemuel and Mehitable (Chapman) Richardson, who was b. at Stonington, CT, Sept. 13, 1709, and bapt. there Mar. 26 She was 4th in descent from Amos Richardson of Boston. They settled in E.H. where he d. Feb. 7, 1780. She d. E.H., May 5, 1778.

32 III Elizabeth (4) b. E.H., Dec. 29, 1701; m. abt. 1722, Ebenezer, s,. of Ebenezer Cone, and grand son of Daniel Cone, who was bapt. at E.H., June 18, 1704. She d. Aug. 29, 1767; and he d. Feb. 1, 1788, age 90. They had 5 chil.

She d. between 1742-1746. He m. 2nd with Rebecca___, and d. Jan. 9, 1790. His wid. Rebecca d. Nov. 2, 1807.

35 VI Lydia (4), b. E.H., Apr. 15, 1707; m. there Nov. 29, 1722, Daniel, s. of John and Rebecca (Walkley) Booge, who was b. at E.H. Oct. 3, 1699, and bapt. there May 21, 1704. He d. there July 11, 1748.

36 VII Phebe (4), b. E.H. Jan. 6, 1709. There are indications that she was the 2nd w. of Arthur Scovel of L., afterwards of E.H., where he d. June 1, 1761. If so she d. before 1772.

37 VIII Mehitable (4), b. at E.H., Sept. 14, 1711; m. there Mar. 18, 1736, John Millard. She had as many as 6 chil.

38 IX Lucretia (4), b. at E.H. June 7, 1713.

39 X Noah (4), b. at E.H., Aug. 28, 1716; had w. Sarah. He d. Feb. 5, 1784, aged 66 yrs. His wid. d. May 28, 1794, age 80.

40 XI Benajah (4) b. not recorded. He m. Rachel, dau. of Samuel and Rachel (Cone) Dutton, who was b. Nov. 6, 1727, and bapt at E.H. Jan. 26, 1718-29. He d. before Feb. 4, 1752. His wid. m. 2nd at Millington, Apr. 5, 1764 or 65, Samuel Gates, who d. there Aug. 25, 1801.

41 XII (4), bapt. H.L., Apr. 10, 1748, being abt. 22 yrs of age, so b. abt. 1726. She m. Oct 9, 1737, Joseph, s. of Nathaniel and Sarah Beckwith, who was b. Dec. 11, 1715. She d. Aug. 3, 1750, and her husband m. 2nd Mar. 3, 1751, Mrs. Mary Scovel of E.H.

49 III Abel (4), b. not found. He m. Mary, dau. of John and Mary (Willey) Holmes, who was b. at N.L. Feb. 7, 1712-13. They removed to Westchester, CT, where 3 of there chil. d. before Dec. 8, 1745. They later removed to Middle Haddam. Various deeds of land in Colchester and Lyme, of Abel Willey of Colchester, from 1737 to 1745, are of record.

77 II David (5) b. at E.H. Apr. 19, 1725; m. at E.H., Aug. 20, 1752, Rachel, prob. dau. of ____ and Sarah (Booge) Spencer, who was b. E.H., Mar. 6, 1726, and bapt. Apr. 1, 1728.. He m. 2nd Rachel Church, wid. of Hezekiah Mack, who had d. Oct. 1755 at Lake George, NY. She d. July 10, 1801 in her 69th yr. and was b. Sept. 5, 1732, dau. of John and Mary Church.

79 IV Jonathan (5), b. E.H., July 10, 1737; m. there May 4, 1758, Mary Bates, who may have been b. there Aug. 21, 1735, and bapt. Oct. 5, 1735, dau. of Clement and Mary (Strowbridge) Bates. He is said to have d. in Middletown, CT.
