The teacher is my mother, Rita Alice (actually Alice Emmarita McFadden), the daughter of John Philip McFadden and Augusta Ryan. John was killed in Wynot, NE in 1913 and Augusta raised her 3 daughters, Mary, Mrs Earl Hirschman, Leone, Mrs Clifford Coonrod, and Rita, Mrs Ray L. Williamson, by herself until 25 OCT 1916 when she married Emil Hoefer at Holy Trinity Church in Hartington. The family lived in the Hartington and Coleridge area and later moved to Laurel. Emil and Augusta "Gussie" ran a cafe during the years they were building state highway 20 through the Laurel area. Rita wanted to attend the St Vincent's school of nursing in Sioux City, but she wanted to go with her sister, Leone. Upon graduating High School, Rita obtained a Teaching Certificate and taught school for a year while she waited for Leone to graduate High School. They then went to Sioux City and graduated St. Vincent's together. [I have their St Vincent's graduation picture] Rita taught at a "country school" somewhere near Hartington and Coleridge. Richard R.
