KORUS - John C. Korus, 88, Silver Creek; died Tuesday in Good Samaritan Center, Osceola.
    Funeral rites will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Silver Creek, with burial in the parish cemetery. The Rev. Stanley Mitera will officiate.
    Rosary service well be 8:15 p.m. Friday at the McKown Funeral Home in Silver Creek where the body will lie in state after 4 p.m. that day.
    Son of Carl and Sophia Kapuska [sic], he was born Dec. 11, 1886, at Tarnov, where he received his education. He was married to Veronia Mostek, 1913-1918, and to Pauline Szota, 1919-1955.
    Mr. Korus farmed near Silver Creek and later worked for the railroad. He was a member of St. Lawrence Church.
    Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Louis (Lillian) Olsufka of Omaha, Mrs. Louis (Eleanor) Borowiak of Silver Creek and Mrs. Frank (Frances) Adam of Los Angeles; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his wives; son, Clarence in 1971; sister Katherine Yelli.

JANSSEN - Mrs. Lena Janssen, 91, Creston, died this morning at Columbus Manor. Gass-Haney Funeral Home will announce the arrangements.

JANSSEN - The funeral of Mrs. Lena Janssen, 91, who died Thursday in Columbus Manor, will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Creston Baptist Church with the Rev. D. Lee Grace officiating. Burial will be in the Creston Cemetery.
    The body will lie in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Home, 1 p.m. Sunday to noon Monday; 1-2 p.m. Monday at church.
    Resident of the Creston area most of her life, Mrs. Janssen was born June 4, 1883, in Germany, the daughter of Fred and Lena Kruse.
    Her first husband was Henry Huseman, whom she married in 1913. He died in 1918. She was married to Herman H. Janssen from 1922 until his death in 1961.
    Mrs. Janssen was a member of the Creston Baptist Church and Dorcas Society.
    She is survived by two sons, Elmer G. Huseman of Pomona, Calif., and Herbert A. Huseman of Creston; three daughters, Mrs. Henrietta Scheffler of Madison, Mrs. Edna H. Paul of Creston, Mrs. Ruth R. Svoboda of Lakewood, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred Kruse of Waterloo, Iowa; two sisters and one brother in Germany. One grandchild preceded her in death.

LIPS - Funeral services were held Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittier, Calif. for Carroll R. Lips, 50, a former Columbus resident who died Friday at a Whittier hospital. Pastor Robert W. Wolter officiated and burial was in Rose Hills Memorial Park.
    Mr. Lips was employed by Cornhusker REA before moving to Whittier in 1963. For a time he was employed by 20th Century Fox Studios, but because of poor health, he had been retired the last eight years. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
    Surviving are his wife, the former Maymie Vasek of Leigh; three daughters, Mrs. David (Lana Carol) King of Lebanon, Mo., Beverly Ann and Tamara Rose Lips, and a son, Randy Scott, all of Whittier; one grandson, Mark C. King; his mother, Rose Zybach, and brother, Walter Zybach Sr., both of Columbus; sisters, Irene Nauenburg, Ella Bell, Ruth Wesley and Marilyn Hurt, all of California; also nieces and nephews.

JONES - Mrs. Raymond (Daisy) Jones, 66, of 2215 30th Street, died Sunday morning in Behlen Community Hospital.
    Her funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, the Rev. Don Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery. Visitation hours will be 1 p.m. Tuesday to 11:30 p.m. [sic] Wednesday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home; 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday at church.

BERNECKI - Ceceila Bernecki, 68, of 1721 Ninth Street, died Saturday at Columbus Manor. Her funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Scripture service is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Chapel where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Tuesday.
    Daughter of Louis J. and Justyna Olyender Bernecki, she was born Dec. 15, 1906 at Buffalo, N.Y. She kept house for her family most of her life, and in Columbus she was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and Altar Society.
    Surviving are three brothers and five sisters: Tony, Walter and Leo Bernecki, Mrs. Elmer (Elizabeth) Robak, Mrs. Sylvester (Rose) Zarek and Mrs. Leonard (Frances) Kula, all of Columbus; Mrs. Ed (Marie) Fuxa of Omaha; Mrs. Ray (Josephine) Buster of North Platte. Her parents and brother, Joe, preceded her in death.

JONES - Last rites for Mrs. Raymond (Daisy) Jones, 66, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church.
    Officiating will be the Rev. Don Brooks, and burial will be in Palestine Cemetery. The body lies in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Home until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, then at the church from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
    Mrs. Jones, of 2215 30th Street, died Sunday morning at Behlen Community Hospital after an extended illness.
    She was born near Swanton April 8, 1908, to Charles and Emma Witt Hermsmeier. She was separated from her brothers at an early age because of her mother's death and lived in several foster homes until being reunited with her brother, Ervin, in 1922. She came to make her home with him in the St. Edward and Palenstine [sic] communities.
    A graduate of St. Edward High School in 1927, she atteded Wayne College and taught school in District 51, Platte County, and one year in Palmer. She was married to Robert Jones of Lindsay on Aug. 14, 1931, and they resided on the farm until his death in 1960, when she moved to Columbus.
    On Feb. 5, 1962, she was married to Raymond M. Jones and they had since resided in Columbus.
    Mrs. Jones was an active member of Palestine Baptist Church north of Genoa until moving to Columbus, where she became affiliated with First Baptist Church and was active as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of Rebekah Lodge.

KUTA - Frank A. Kuta, 69, of 272 17th Avenue, died Sunday in Behlen Community Hospital.
    Funeral rites will be conducted by the Rev. Laurin Buzynski, 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Visitation begins at ? p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary service is set for ?:30 p.m. Tuesday.
    A retired farmer, Mr. Kuta had lived at Tarnov, Loup City, Litchfield and Fullerton before moving to Columbus 13 years ago. He was born Feb. 22, 1905, to John L. and Anna (Korus) Kuta at Tarnov, where he attended St. Michael school.
    On Feb. 10, 1931 he married Bernice Placzek at St. Stanislaus Church, Duncan. Survivors include his wife; three children, Richard of Fullerton, Mrs. Laurence (Theresa) Tworek of Osceola, Mrs. Ronald (Janet) Racine of Omaha; seven grandchildren.
    One of a family of 13 children, he is also survived by five brothers, Tom of Tarnov, John and Joe of Loup City, Andrew of Downey, Calif., Mike of Santa Barbara, Calif., and one sister, Mrs. Stanley (Catherine) Nosal of Columbus.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mrs. Frank (Veronica) Shotkoski and Mrs. Pete (Cecelia) Golus; brothers, Adam and Stanley; one infant brother and sister.

BROWDER - A retired Columbus carpenter, Clarence Browder, 82, died Sunday morning at the Grand Island Veterans Hospital where he was a patient the last five years.
    Military graveside rites for the World War I Navy veteran will be conducted in Columbus Cemetery following the Tuesday 2 p.m. funeral services at Gass-Haney Chapel. Officiating minister will be the Rev. John McGee.
    Resident of Columbus for 45 years, Mr. Browder was born Nov. 19, 1892 at Preston, Mo., to John C. an Ingra (Oman) Browder. He was educated at Gothenburg, Neb., and Grand Island Business College. A member of the Amerian Legion, he was formerly affiliated with Eagles Lodge.
    Surviving are two nephews, Gene and John J. Neater of Columbus. His sister, Mrs. John (May) Neater Sr. preceded him in death.

JANSSEN - Mrs. Ernest (Belinda) Janssen, 72, of 1922 2nd Street, died this morning at Behlen Community Hospital.
    Arrangements are pending at McKown Funeral Home.

BOKELMANN - A retired farmer, Theodore F. Bokelmann, 66, of 1759 27th Avenue, died Monday in Behlen Community Hospital.
    Family prayer service at 1:45 p.m. Thursday will precede the 2 p.m. funeral rites at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Pastor B.F. Meschke officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The body will lie in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Wednesday until noon Thursday, then at church from 1 to 2 p.m.
    Son of Herman and Louise (Westmeyer) Bokelmann, he was born April 10, 1908 in Nance County and was graduated from Genoa High School. He married Leona Wolf, Sept. 1, 1938 at Immanuel Lutheran Church and farmed in Platte County near Genoa until 1959, when they moved to Columbus. He was a member of Immanuel Church.
    Survivors include his wife; five children, Mrs. Gregory (Lynn) Van Vark of Pella, Iowa, Barbara, Carol, Mrs. Gordon (Patricia) Starr and Eugene, all of Columbus; three grandchildren; two sisters, Hedwig and Helene, and a brother, Louis, all of Columbus, He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William and Ernest of Platte Center.

JANSSEN - The Rev. H.M. Rathkamp will conduct final rites for Mrs. Ernest (Belinda) Janssen, 72, at 2 p.m. Thursday at McKown Funeral Chapel where the body now lies in state. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
    Resident of 1922 Second Street, Mrs. Janssen died Thursday in Behlen Community Hospital. She was born April 2, 1902 to Silas R. and Rosa (Carpenter) Hulbert at Loup City and married Ernest Janssen at St. Paul, Neb.
    Surviving are her husband; son, Harold Mead of Hollywood, S.C.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lloyd Klein of Loup City. Her parents and one son preceded her in death.

BERCHTOLD - A prayer service at 1:45 p.m. Friday will preceded [sic] 2 p.m. funeral rites at Immanuel Lutheran Church for Alfred Berchtold, 89, of 101 East Parkway.
    Officiating will be the Revs. B.F. Meschke and M.W. Goldhammer. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The body will lie in state, 1 p.m. Thursday until noon Friday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home; 1-2 p.m. Friday at church.
    A retired farmer, Mr. Berchtold died Monday at Behlen Hospital where he was critically ill the last month.
    He was born Nov. 15, 1885 in Platte County to Gottlieb and Elsie (Niefenecker) Berchtold and farmed northwest of Columbus until 1951. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
    He was preceded in death by his first wife, nee Myn Mueller, in 1955; second wife, Magdelene Egger, 1963; daughter, Syville Husek; one brother and two sisters.
    Surviving are his third wife, the former Marion Clarke, whom he married June 2, 1964 at Green Bay, Wis.; two sons, Carroll of Columbus and Wallace of Winter Haven, Fla.; four grandchildren, Mrs. Wallace (Yvonne) Brunken, Mrs. Robert (Connie) Clausen, Mrs. Steve (Nancy) Reichmuth and Alfred Kurt Berchtold, all of Columbus; eight great-grandchildren.
    Also surviving are two stepchildren, Mrs. Donald Egger of Omaha, George E. Clarke of Janesville, Wis., and five step-grandchildren.

LOSEKE - Mrs. Caroline Loseke, 91, Columbus, died Friday afternoon in Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Osceola.
    Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, the Rev. H.M. Rathkamp officiating, and burial in Calvary Cemetery at St. John Church, Shell Creek. Visitation will be 1 p.m. Sunday until noon Monday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home; 1-2 p.m. Monday at church.
    Daughter of William and Christina Barner Korte, she was born May 24, 1883 at Schuyler and was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Shell Creek, where she married William F. Loseke, March 8, 1905.
    They moved from Colfax County to a farm north of Monroe in 1913, and after her husband's death in 1943, she retired to Columbus. Since then she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. The family suggests memorials to Trinity Memorial Fund.
    Surviving: five daughters, Mrs. Werner (Viola) Klug of Richland, Mrs. Carl (Lorraine) Abegglen of Grand Island, Mrs. Vincent (Ruth) Gossman of San Antonio, Tex., Mrs. Isabelle Treinies and Mrs. Lawrence (Evelyn) Nyffeler of Columbus; two sons, Lloyd and Willis of Platte Center; one sister, Mrs. Adolph (Emma) Hoge of Columbus; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandsons.
    She was preceded in death by five sisters, Mrs. J.P. Hunteman, Mrs. George Loseke, Mrs. Alfred Plugge, Mrs. Amelia Behrend, Rose Korte; two brothers, Carl and Adolph Korte.

BOSWELL - Funeral services for John D. Boswell, 75, Columbus, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at McKown Funeral Chapel.
    Officiating will be the Rev. James Reid, and burial will be in Columbus Cemetery. The body is to lie in state after 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
    Mr. Boswell, who had resided at 2122 22nd Street, died Friday morning at Epply Care Center in Omaha. He had been ill the past one and a half years.
    The son of James and Lucy Ellen Blair Boswell, he was born Oct. 25, 1899, at Silver Creek. A lifetime resident of the Columbus vicinity, he had worked for T.B. Hord Grain Company here.
    Mr. Boswell was married to Ethel Warnick Aug. 18, 1918, in Columbus.
    Surviving are four sons, Carroll Boswell of Grand Island, John Lloyd and Robert of Columbus, and Leonard L. of Platte Center; one daughter, Mrs. Edward (Lucille) Kubicek of Columbus; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Joe Boswell, and one sister, Mrs. Bertha Adam, both of Independence, Kan.
    He was preceded in death by his wife and three infant children; parents, two brothers and two sisters.

KOCH - Mrs. Clara Koch, 2021 14th Street, died this morning in Behlen Community Hospital. She was 74. McKown Funeral Home will direct the funeral.

KOCH - Last rites for Mrs. Clara E. Koch, 74, Columbus, will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church.
    Officiating will be the Rev. Regis Watts and burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery near Osceola. The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Thursday at McKown Funeral Home, and a Scripture service will be held there at 8 p.m.
    Mrs. Koch, who resided at 2021 14th Street, died Tuesday morning in Behlen Community Hospital after a nine-day illness.
    The daughter of Engelbert J. and Katherine Seberger Zimmerman, she was born Nov. 21, 1900, in Polk County. She attended rural Polk County school.
    On Feb. 28, 1927, she was married to Thomas Koch at St. Lawrence Church, Silver Creek. A resident of Columbus the past 40 years, Mrs. Koch had worked 33 years for the local IGA store.
    Mrs. Koch was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and Franciscan Missionary Union.
    Surviving are one son, Leland Koch of St. Louis; one daughter, Mrs. James (Betty) Jasper of Platte Center; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Zimmerman of Monroe and Albin Zimmerman, of Bellwood; three sisters, Mrs. Martha Jaax of Columbus, Mrs. Louis (Luella) Kleiss of Lamar, Mo., and Mrs. Chester (Helen) Swanson of Bellevue.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, George, on June 22, 1973, and an infant sister.

BLAIR - Harry Blair, 70, 116 Heritage House, died this morning at Behlen Community Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Gass-Haney Funeral Home.

BLAIR - The funeral of Harry R. Blair, 70, of 116 Heritage House, will be 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church with burial in Roselawn Cemetery. The Rev. J. Graydon Wilson will officiate.
    Visitation hours will be 1 p.m. Sunday to noon Monday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home; 1-2 p.m. Monday at church.
    Resident of Columbus the last 36 years, Mr. Blair died Friday at Behlen Community Hospital. He was formerly employed by Swift and Company; Hadley Braithwait; and Columbus Laundry.
    A lifetime Nebraska, he was born Feb. 29, 1904 at Bradshaw and attended schools in York. His parents were Ira and Mary (Thompson) Blair. He was a Methodist.
    Surviving are his wife, the former Eleanor (Nora) Christensen, whom he married March 30, 1938 at Osceola; one son; one daughter; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Six brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

BURES - Frank B. Bures, 1618 16th Street, died Monday at Morys Haven on his 90th birthday. He had been ill for a month.
    Funeral services are set for 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with Rev. Regis Watts officiating. Scripture service will be 8 p.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. that day. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
    Born Feb. 16, 1885 at Sad_, Austria-Hungary, he was the son of Frank and Anna (Balaban) Bures. Resident of this area most of his life, he was a grocer in Schuyler where he served several terms as mayor and on the city council. He married Catherine Mares Jan. 8, 1907 at Schuyler.
    In later years he lived in Columbus and worked for Schweser's. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church.
    Preceded in death by his wife, he is survived by one son, Leo of Columbus; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Marie Nash of Columbus, Mrs. Emma Holub and Mrs. Blanche Kluck of Richland; two brothers, Edward E. of Schuyler and Victor B. Bures of Rogers. Two sisters died in infancy.

BARTUSHOCK - Joe G. Bartuschock Sr., 68, of 353 14th Avenue, died Thursday at his home. He had been in ill health the past 17 years.
    Funeral rites will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with the Rev. Laurin Buzynski officiating, and burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Sunday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
    He was born Jan. 26, 1907, in Nance County, the son of John and Helena Sok and was married to Rosa M. Francis Aug. 4, 1936 at St. Paul. They resided in Nance County before coming to Columbus.
    A carpenter, Mr. Bartushock was a veteran of World War II. He was a Catholic.
    He is survived by his wife; two sons, Joe Jr. of Columbus and Kenneth of England; one daughter, Mrs. Joe (Nancy) Woerth of Columbus; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Kate Shefcyk and Mrs. Barney (Rose) Novicki of Columbus.
    Preceding himm in death were his parents; brother, Adam; and sisters, Ceclia Srutek, Helen Maslonka and Mary Ziemba.

BRASE - Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Mary Brase, 89, are pending at Gass-Haney Funeral Home. She died this morning at her home, 862 26th Avenue.

BROCKMAN - Ernest A. Brockman, 80, of Gerrard Court, died at home Sunday. He had been in failing health the last six months.
    Services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Chapel with the Rev. J. Graydon Wilson in charge. Burial will be at Silver Creek. The body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
    Born Dec. 17, 1894 at Effingham, Minn., he was the son of Henry and Martha (Kempin) Brockman. He married Cora Hinkle in Columbus in 1934, and was caretaker of Whitmoyer Apartments and Gerrard Courts for many years. He was a Methodist.
    Surviving are his wife; sons, Richard of Columbus and Ralph; (no address); brother, Henry W. of Belgrade; sister, Martha F. of Monroe.
    He was preceded in death by a son, Robert, who was first gunner on the submarine Trout in World War II; parents; brother, Ted; sister, Helen.

KRESHA - Edwin Kresha, 31, died this morning at homes, 1018 Second Street.
    Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Cathollic Church will be concelebrated by the Rev. Laurin Buzynski and Rev. John Starostka, with burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
    Rosary services will be Friday at McKown Funeral Home, 7 p.m. by Knights of Columbus and 7:30 p.m. by the parish.

KRESHA - Funeral rites for Edwin J. Kresha, 31, who died Thursday at his home, 1018 Second Street, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
    Concelebrating the mass will be the Revs. Laurin Buzynski and John Starostka. Rosary services at McKown Funeral Home tonight will be 7 p.m., Knights of Columbus; 7:30 p.m., parish; 8 p.m. Holy name Society.
    Son of John and Caroline (Stavas) Kresha, he was born May 11, 1943 at Osceola where he was graduated from Osceola High School. Later he attended Platte College.
    An employe of Becton-Dickinson, he had lived in the (city?) from January 1966, to December, 1967. He was a member of St. Anthony Parish, Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus.
    On May 4, 1968 he married Florence Kula at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Silver Creek.
    Surviving are his wife, two children, Kenneth and Lisa; parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kresha of Columbus; brothers, Clarence of North Highlands, Calif., and Dennis of Columbus; sisters, Mrs. Louis (Dorothy) Kush of Monroe and Mrs. Jerome (Florence) Jarecke of Columbus; several nephews and nieces.

KUPP - An early resident of Columbus, Jake Kupp Sr., Rt 1, Allen Road, Sunnyside, Wash., died Tuesday of an apparent heart attack while working in his vineyard.
    Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Sunnyside First Presbyterian Church and burial in the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens under the direction of Smith Funeral Home Sunnyside.
    Born in Zurich, Switzerland, he came to Columbus at the age of 16 and farmed for many years. He married Hulda Mueller in 1917 and they lived near Columbus until moving to Omaha in 1947. There he was manager of the Nebraska Farmers Union for two years. In 1950 he and his family moved to Sunnyside where he became a prominent grape grower.
    He served as an elder of the First Presbyterian church and as a director and treasurer of the Yakima Valley Grape Growers Assn. He took an active interest in politica and sports.

    Services are set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Duncan, the Rev. Charles Kucera officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Parish and Holy Name rosary will be 8 p.m. today at mcKown funeral Home where the body lies in state.
    Son of Martin and Anna (Sokol) Koziol, he was born April 12, 1922 at Fullerton, where he received his education. Since 1940 he farmed on Route 4. He was a member of St. Stanislaus church and Holy Name Society.

JOHNSON - George H. Johnson, 34, of 540 College View, died this morning in Behlen Manufacturing Co. [sic] and had previously been a heavy equipment operator.
    Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Friday. Another service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at the Nickolls-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury with burial in the Fairbury Cemetery.
    Born Feb. 11, 1941 at Omaha, he was the son of George H. and Alta (Jones) Johnson. He was graduated from Fairbury High School and Junior College; married Joyce Craig on Dec. 7, 1962 at Plattsmouth; lived at Wymore and Stanton before coming here.
    He is survived by his wife; four children, David, Donna, Michael and William, at home; his mother of Fairbury; sister, Mrs. Christine Cudaback of Kearney; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Hanks of Fairbury.

KLOKE - Mrs. Edward "Bud" (Wilma) Kloke, 46, of Rt. 3, Columbus, died Saturday after a three-week illness.
    Rosary will be prayed at 8:30 p.m. today at McKown Funeral Home where the body lies in state. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Platte Center, with Rev. John Starostka offiicating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
    She was born Oct. 11, 1928 to Prokop and Emma (Faimon) Smutny at Madison, where she was a 1944 high school graduate and married Edward Kloke Jan. 8, 1948. They lived in Madison until moving to Columbus in 1964.
    Here she was employed part time at Joe and Al's IGA. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and St. Ann Sodality.
    Survivors are her husband; two sons, Edward Lee of Wichita, Kan., and Robert of Columbus; one daughter Judith, at home; two brothers, Lud and Rudy Smutny of Humphrey; five sisters, Libby Kreitman of Randall, Minn., Mary Bartman of Kewanee, Ill., Elsie Carstensen of Davenport, Iowa, Helen Bezdek of Omaha, Bessie Bove of Madison; three grandchildren, Christina, Brian and Paula. Her parents; sister, Sylvia Vick; and brother, Edwin Smutny, preceded her in death.

KAMM - John Kamm, 86, died Monday at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kamm of Platte Center, he was a brother of Bertha Bruns and Nick Kamm of Columbus.

KLUVER - Fred Kluver, 90 retired Columbus farmer, died Monday at his home on Rt. 3. He had lived on the same farm since 1898.
    Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. D. Lee Grace, 2 p.m. Thursday at McKown Funeral Chapel with burial in Columbus Cemetery. The body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
    Son of Henry and Johanna Dorothea (Bargman) Kluver, he was born April 1, 1885 in Illinois, coming to Platte county in 1898. He married Rose Novicki on July 25, 1954 in Columbus, and she survives. Also surviving are nephews and nieces.
    The last of his family, he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

KREIZINGER - Oliver Kreizinger, 67, died in Los Angeles Wednesday. Services for the former Bellwood native are pending at McKown Funeral Home and St. Peter Catholic Church in Bellwood.

KOSCH - Funeral services for William H. Kosch, 90, who died May 20, were held May 23 in Shelby at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10 a.m. The Rev. Anthony Trausch officiated and burial was in the parish cemetery.
    William Kosch was born near Bellwood May 15, 1885. He was the son of Alois and Alousia Janicek Kosch and was married to Julia Hilger in 1909. In 1911 they moved near Shelby.
    A life time Polk farmer, he served many years as a church trustee, director of Polk and Butler Insurance Company, original director of the Polk County Rural Public District, director of the Farmers Elevator in Shelby and director of Shelby Oil Company.
    Surviving are three sons, Aloysius, Wilhelm and Eugene of Shelby; two daughters, Mrs Wayne (Mary Rose) Schmid of Bellwood, and Mrs. Robert (Loyola) McMeekin of Osceola; 27 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters. He was preceded in death by a son Lee.

JEDLICKA - Funeral services for Mrs. Anton J. (Mary S.) Jedlicka, 79, who died Monday at Schuyler Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness, will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Schuyler. Rev. Victor Herman will offciate [sic] and burial will be in Schuyler Cemetery.
    The body will lie in state at the Svoboda Funeral Home in Schuyler with visitation Thursday after 9 a.m. There will be a public rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday.
    The former Mary Wachal was married to Anton Jedlicka on May 18, 1920 in Schuyler and lived in Schuyler since 1950. Prior to that, they farmed in Colfax County. She was a member of the K.D. and St. Mary Guild.
    Survivors include her husband, Anton; one son, Milo of Schuyler; one daughter, Mrs. Norman (Marie) Kracl of O'Neill; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; three brothers, John and Alvin Wachal of Schuyler, and Ed Wachal of Leigh; two sisters, Mrs. Lad Ellen Brichacek and Mrs. Helen Blatney of Schuyler. She was preceded in death by one brother and one grandson.

BARNES - Marvis Jean Barnes, 48, of 2211 19th Street, died at her home May 25 after a four year illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Methodist Church in Atkinson with Rev. Withee officiating. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Atkinson.
    Mrs. Barnes was born in Stuart May 26, 1926, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tasler. On June 6, 1942 she married Gerald Barnes in Ainsworth.
    They lived in the Atkinson-Stuart area for 14 years, then in California for 12. They moved to Columbus in 1968.
    Survivors include her husband; one son, Garold Dean of Columbus; four daughters, Glenda Jean Spuit and Susan Eileen Curtis of Columbus, Gail Lynn Slade of David City and Pennie Lou Barnes, at home; her parents at Atkinson.

    Lifetime resident of Platte County, Mrs. Bernt died Friday in Morys Haven. She was born March 1, 1884 at Tarnov, daughter of Henry and Anna (Seberger) Greisen.
    She and Gust Bernt of Osceola were married Oct. 1, 1907 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, rural Platte Center. In Columbus, she was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, St. Ann Society and Christian Mothers.
    Six children survive: Mrs. Floyd (Madeline) Arasmith of Columbus; Martin of Hot Springs, S.D.; Louis, of Ralston; Mrs. Jim (Evelyn) Davis of LaMirada, Calif.; Raymond of Columbus; Mrs. Jack (Loraine) Cotie of Fairfax, Calif.
    Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Anna Gilsdorf of Wheaton, Minn., Mrs. Helen Campbell of Las Vegas, Nev.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

    Born April 26, 1904, in Colfax County, he was the son of Gerhard and Minnie (Luesche) Loseke. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Leigh. He attended Colfax County schools.
    Mr. Loseke was a lifetime resident of the area and worked as a welder and sold Standard Feeds. He was a member of Eagles and of Trinity Lutheran Church.
    Survivors include Frances Prososki, one son, Gary of Norfolk; one adopted daughter, Mrs. Frank K. Knox of Visialia, Calif.; one granddaughter, Allison Rae of Norfolk; three sisters, Mrs. Alma Asche of Columbus, Mrs. Elmer (Elisa) Busse of Leigh, Mrs. Bertha Schlutter of Leigh; and three brothers, Arnold and William of Leigh, and Otto of Columbus.

    Son of Albert and Gladys (Silvers) Byer, he was born Aug. 25, 1905, in Stafford, Kan. He attended the Stafford County Schools. He was a native of Kansas and had lived in Columbus for the last nine years. Mr. Byer was a retired construction worker.
    Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Max (Janice) Scott; eight grandchildren; one brother, John of Stafford, Kan.; and four sisters, Mrs. Clem (Mary) Fuller of Stafford, Mrs. Opal Wint of Wichita, Kan., Hattie Bayer of St. Johns, Kan., and Mrs. Gladys Hohnert of Waverly.
    He was preceded in death by two brothers Fred and Albert Junior.

BRINKMAN - Funeral services for Anna Brinkman, 73, of Heritage House, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the McKown Funeral Chapel, the Rev. D. Lee Grace officiating. Burial will be in the Columbus Cemetery.
    Mrs. Brinkman died Friday at Behlen Community Hospital. The body will lie in state after 4 p.m. Monday until the hour of service.
    Born June 10, 1901, Mrs. Brinkman was the daughter of Joseph Myron and Mary Elizabeth (Elithing) Shindler [sic]. She married Albert J. Brinkman Sr. on Feb. 24, 1921 in Albion and has lived in the Albion and Columbus areas. She belonged to the United Methocist [sic] Church.
    Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. W.N. (Alberta) Curtis of Sunnyvale, Calif., Mrs. Francis (Alvina) Sherwood of Rochester, N.Y., Mrs. Jacob (Aldora) Pocwierz of Columbus, Mrs. Henry (Aldonna) Witheral of Hornbrook, Calif., and Mrs. John (Aloma) Neth of Clarkson; two sons, Albert Joseph Brinkman of Los Angeles, Calif., and Alvin Christopher Brinkman of San Francisco, Calif.; one brother, Leo Schindler of Calif.; one sister, Agnes Louise Herbert of Sacramento, Calif.; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

KAVICH - Alex Kavich, 2408 10th Street, passed away at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha Thursday. Burial was made at Fisher Farm Cemetery in Omaha Friday.
    Mr. Kavich was a musician and he played with many name bands until ill health forced him to retire.
    He is survived by four sisters, Ann Kavich of Columbus, Jean Kein of Fairbury, Mrs. Morris Bervin of Fairbury and Mrs. Rose Leiser of Los Angeles; and two brothers Abe of San Francisco and Phil of Columbus.

Loseke, of 1472 32nd Avenue, who died Saturday morning at Behlen Memorial Hospital, were today with a 1:15 p.m. prayer service at Gass-Haney Chapel and a 2 p.m. service at Christ Lutheran Church. The Rev. Martin Bornemann officiated and burial was in Christ Lutheran Cemetery.
    Mrs. Loseke was born July 31, 1886, in Platte County, daughter of Henry and Marie (Klosterman) Hespe. She married Herman Loseke at Christ Lutheran Church Oct. 13, 1911.
    They farmed in the Columbus area until 1946 when they moved into town. Mrs. Loseke was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Leigh, and later was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
    Surviving are one daughter, Alice and one grandson, Jerome. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, William and Henry, and two sisters, Lena Schutte and Alma Hollman.

BREIDERT - Ray E. Breidert, 71, died this morning at home, 119 South Parkway.
    Services are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, the Rev. John Mikkelsen in charge. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Newman Grove, with Masonic rites. BREIDERT - Funeral services for Ray E. Breidert, 71, former Columbus City Councilman and long active in civic affairs, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church.
    The Rev. John Mikkelsen will officiate and burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Newman Grove, with Masonic graveside rites. The body lies in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Home until 11 a.m. Wednesday, then at the church from noon to the time of service.
    Mr. Breidert died Monday at his home, 119 So. Parkway.

    The son of John P. and Caroline E. Breidert, he was born May 19, 1904, at Newman Grove. When in his 20's he moved to Madison and ____ his father-in-law operated a tire and battery business.
    Mr. Breidert was married to Gladys Homan Nov. 21, 1938, at Madison. They moved to Columbus in 1947 and had since resided here.
    He became a Master Mason in 1953. In 1959-60, he was president of the Columbus Rotary Club.
    Mr. Breidert was elected to the City Council from Fourth Ward and served three terms. He was chairman of the Council's finance committee in 1960.
    An insurance underwriter for New York Life Insurance Company for many years, Mr. Breidert qualifed for the National Quality Award in 1949. This award recognizes quality service to the public as evidenced by an excellent record of maintaining in force and extending the benefits of life insurance.
    A member of First United Methodist Church in Columbus, he served on the pastoral relations committee and was on the board of stewards in Madison and Columbus. He had currently been president of the Keystone Club, a service club in the Methodist Churhc.
    Surviving are his wife and two brothers, Clarence E. Breidert of Rapid City, S.D., and LeRoy W. of Mt. Clemens, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Margaret M. Schwager and Viola E. Voboril.

BALMER - A former resident of this community, Reinhold F. Balmer, 59, died June 13 at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital after a week's illness.
    A self-employed ornamental iron craftsman, he was a retired chief warrent officer, having served 30 years in the Navy (20 years active duty and 10 in the reserves). He was born near Columbus May 23, 1916.
    He is survived by his wife, Catherine, 6402 Paschall Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa.; son, Reinhold Jr., and step-son Donald Marano, also of Philadelphia; parents; Fred Balmer of Hillsboro, Ore., and Lillie Balmer of Columbus; brother, Rev.     In Lincoln, she was a secretary at the University of Nebraska. Formerly, she was a leader of Lutheran Youth groups and Girls [sic] Scouts in Logan, Kan.
    Rebecca, born Jan. 9, 1962, was presently a seventh grade student at Columbus Junior High and member of the band-string group. She also participated in Girl Scouting.

    The Rev. B. F. Meschke will officiate Friday at a 2:45 p.m. family prayer service and 3 p.m. funeral rites at Immanuel Lutheran church, with burial in Roselawn Cemetery. The body lies in state as [sic] Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel until 1 p.m. Friday, then at church, 2-3 p.m.
    Lifelong resident of this community, Mr. Krumland was born Oct. 11, 1884, six miles north of Columbus, where he lived until moving to town in 1924.
    Son of Gerhart and Wilhelmina (Kunneman) Krumland, he attended District 10 school, was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church and married Ida Hake on Dec. 20 1911 at St. John Lutheran church, Shell Creek.
    In Columbus he was a member of Immanuel church and served in various church offices. He was a former member of the Lutheran Layman's League.
    Preceded in death by his wife in 1956, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Albert (Florence) Kohtz of Grand Island and Mrs. Erwin (Mildred) Kohtz of Bancroft; three sons, Raymond of Concord, Calif., Eugene of Columbus, Wallace (Ted) of Olympia, Wash.; one brother, Edward, and one sister, Mrs. Louis (Emma) Wilken, both of Columbus; 26 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
    One sister, Mrs. Gerhart (Mathilda) Mueller and three brothers, William, Adolph and Theodore preceded him in death.

BENNEFELD - Robert Allan Bennefeld, age 9, died Friday at Children's Memorial Hospital in Omaha.
    He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bennefeld (Etta Mae Thayer) of 1965 35th Avenue.
    A family prayer service preceded the 2 p.m. funeral rites today at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Officiating were Pastor B.F. Meschke and the hospital chaplain, Rev. Delbert Thies. Burial was in Columbus Cemetery under the direction of Gass-Haney Funeral Home.
    Born May 9, 1966 in Columbus, Robbie would have been a fourth grade student at Highland Park School this fall. Active in various sports, he was a state winner in Bantam League bowling and played baseball with the Little League Tigers. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Sunday School.
    Surviving are his parents; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Thayer and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Bennefeld, all of Columbus, great-grandmother, Mrs. Minnie Bennefeld of Girard, Kan.

BERG - Thomas (Tom) C. Berg, 66, a retired building contractor, died this morning at his home, 2906 23rd Street, after a year's illness.
    Funeral services are set for 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. The Rev. Regis Watts will officiate. Scripture service will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday at McKown Funeral Chapel where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. that day.
    Lifetime resident of Platte County, he was born April 9, 1909 to William J. and Margaret (Korth) Berg at Cornlea and attended St. Francis School, Humphrey.
    He lived at Humphrey until his marriage to Genevieve C. McDermott, July 8, 1948 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Littleton, Colo., and had since resided in Columbus. He retired in 1972.
    A former trustee of St. Bonaventure Church, he was presently a member of the parish council.
    Surviving are his wife; daughter, Janet Ann; three brothers, Arthur of LeRoy, Minn., David of Waterloo, Iowa, James of Humphrey; two sisters, Mrs. Ed (Mary) Schroeder of York, Mrs. Robert (Mildred) Bedard of Waterloo, Iowa.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jerome of Cedar Falls, Iowa.

BRUGGER - Allene McCully Brugger, widow of Melvin Brugger, former Columbus resident, died Aug. 22 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
    She was born in Macon, Mo., on April 20, 1892, the daughter of Walter G. and Mary Miller McCully. Upon graduation from Columbus High School, she attended the University of Nebraska where she majored in music.
    On July 7, 1919, she married Melvin Brugger, son of Melchior and Mathilde Brugger.
    She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Louise Renteria (Mrs. Samuel) of Palo Alto, Calif.; son, Robert Melvin Brugger of Columbia, Mo.; four grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
    She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Daniel M. Beal and Miss Florence Brugger of Columbus.
    Memorial services will be held at Grace Episcopal Church at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, August 30.

BOETTCHER - Former County Supervisor Arnold Boettcher, 65, of 1910 9th Street, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon at Behlen Community Hospital.
    The Rev. H.M. Rathkamp will officiate at funeral services, 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church and burial will be in Columbus Cemetery with military graveside rites. The body is to lie in state from 2 p.m. Tuesday until noon Wednesday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home, and at the church from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday.
    A lifetime resident of Columbus, he was born Jan. 10, 1910, the son of William and Dora (Rohweder) Boettcher. He attended First and Second Ward Schools and Kramer High School. He married Anita Liddy Egger on Sept. 5, 1963, at Detroit Lakes, Minn.
    Mr. Boettcher, a partner with his brother, Leo in the B & B Bar for many years, served eight years on the Platte County board of supervisors. He was in the Navy Seabees in World War II and served in Iwo Jima.
    He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and the family suggests memorials to the Trinity Memorial Fund.
    Mr. Boettcher had also been affiliated with the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Elks. A former volunteer fireman, member of Hose Company No. 2, he was a past president of the department.
    Surviving are his wife; one stepdaughter, Mrs. William (Sharon) DeWulf of Omaha; six stepgrandchildren; four brothers, William L. and Leo of Columbus, Walter of Concord, Calif., and Lester of Tempe, Ariz.; and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Leona) Salak of Columbus and Mrs. Allen (Florence) Chandler of Denver.

    BRADLEY - a former Columbus resident, Mrs. Betty J. Bradley, 50, died Tuesday in Omaha where she was a businesswoman and writer.
    Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Mary Our Queen Catholic Church, Omaha; rosary, 8 p.m. Thursday at John A. Gentleman Westside Chapel. Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Columbus, with Gass-Haney Funeral Home in charge.
    Daughter of Elmer L. and Addie Bradley, Betty was born Jan. 13, 1925 at Shickley and was graduated from Columbus High School and Creighton University.
    Living in Omaha the last 20 years, she founded and owned Jobs Unlimited, was a writer for various magazines and did extensive research in Nebraska history.
    A member of the Omaha Writers club and Nebraska Writers Guild, she had served as an officer in both organizations, and was listed in Who's Who in American College Students. She was a member of Mary Our Queen Church.
    Surviving are four children, Mrs. William (Jackie) McLaughlin of Belmont, Mass., Mrs. Patrick (Joan) Grewe of Arlington, Va., Julie Dodendorf of Lincoln and Robert Dodendorf of Norfolk; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer L.     Son of James and Karen (Pallas) Laska, Bruce died Thursday in St. Jude Hospital, Memphis, Tenn., after a lingering illness.
    He was born Feb. 20, 1966 at Fort Sill, Okla., and later lived at Lake Charles, La., Fort Bliss, Tex., Restone Arsenal, Ala., Columbus and Fort Leavenworth. He was active in Cub Scouts and junior bowling.
    Surviving are his parents; sister, Mary; brother, Brian; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Laska of Duncan, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pallas of Columbus; two great-grandmothers, Mrs. Louis Sladky of David City and Mrs. Francis Pallas of Lincoln.

BARNES - Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church for Mrs. Raymond F. Barnes, 55, the former Jean Carolyn Schwantje. The Rev. M.W. Goldhammer will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.
    The body will lie in state at McKown Funeral Home, 1-9 p.m. Thursday and at church, 9-10 a.m. Friday.
    Mrs. Barnes died Monday at home, 12637 Darlene Street, Upper Marlboro, Md., after a long illness.
    She was born in Columbus July 27, 1920, the daughter of Herbert and Elsie (Schmitt) Schwantje and was a 1939 graduate of Columbus High School. She married Raymond Barnes, Nov. 17, 1944, in Joplin, Mo.
    Surviving are her husband; sons, Michael of Virginia and Dennis of Upper Marlboro; grandson, Brian Barnes; sister, Mrs. Delton (Bette) Braithwait of Columbus. Her father died in 1945; her mother, in 1954.
    Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Lutheran Church of Bowie, Md. Memorial may be directed to the heart fund of Lutheran Church.

BACKUS - Funeral services were held Monday for Mrs. Arthur H. Backus, formerly of Columbus, who died Sept. 27.
    Mrs. Backus, 99, had lived at Crowell Home in Blair since 1957. Burial was in Burrows Cemetery, the family cemetery, in rural Platte County.
    Formerly Elizabeth Thomazin, she was born July 15, 1876 to Thomas and Mary Ann (Roberts) Thomazin, Platte County pioneers. Her parents, both born in England, came to Nebraska in 1972 [sic].
    In 1904 she married Arthur Henry Backus, then at Lindsay, and they moved to Pierce where he became owner and editor of the Pierce County Leader. In 1919 they came to Columbus where he was business manager of the Columbus Daily Telegram until 1940. Mr. Backus died in 1947, and a son, Edgar, died in 1935.
    Surviving are a daughter, Ramona Blackman of Milwaukee, Wis., nieces and nephews. Mrs. Backus was pre-deceased by five brothers, George, John, William, Watson and Thomas Thomazin, and one sister, Rebecca Burrows.
    Memorial gifts are being directed to the United Nations Children's Fund.

LUNDBERG - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Augustana Lutheran Church, Genoa, for Mrs. John (Jessie Marie) Lundberg, 65, lifetime resident of that community. Afflicted with arthritis since she was 23, Mrs. Lundberg died unexpectedly Monday in the Genoa Hospital.
    The Rev. J.F. Shirck will officiate at the funeral, and burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation hours are 3-9 p.m. today at Hasch-Patrick Funeral Chapel, Genoa; 12-2 p.m. Thursday at the church.
    Daughter of Alvin and Mary (Christensen) Yokley, she was born Aug. 12, 1910 at Genoa. Married to John Lundberg at Augustana Church, Oct. 17, 1927, she is survived by her husband; one daughter, Dorothy Jean Mead of LaHabra, Calif.; three grandchildren, Lorene Decaillet of Lodi, Calif., John Mead and Mrs. Ronald (Merilene) Haynie, both of Corona, Calif.; six great-grandchildren.
    Also surviving are her mother, Mrs. Mary Yokley of Fullerton; brothers, Walter and Melvin of Genoa; George of Allendale, N.M., Leonard of Huntington Park, Calif.; sisters, Mrs. John (Florence) Martens and Mrs. Marvin (Mildred) Olson, both of Omaha.

KOZAK - Funeral rites will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church for James Edward Kozak, 30, Richland, who was killed in a car-train accident Thursday evening on the Platte-Colfax County road east of Columbus.
    The Rev. Laurin Buznski will officiate, with burial in st. Bonaventure Cemetery. Rosary service will be 8 p.m. Sunday at the McKown Funeral Home where friends may pay their respects after 1 p.m. Sunday.
    Mr. Kozak, an employe of the United Parcel Service, was born April 15, 1945 at Fullerton to Alphonse E. and Helen (Dubas) Kozak.
    He served in the Air Force from December, 1963 to December, 1967, attaining the rank of sergeant, and married Angeline A. Bialas at Scott AFB, Belleville, Ill.
    He was a member of St. Anthony Parish.
    Surviving are his wife; two children, Christine and James Jr.; his father and step-mother; brothers, Paul T. of Duncan, Dennis F. of Germany, Raymond L. and Thomas of Columbus; sisters, Mrs. Jim (Barbara) Smith of Silver Creek, Mrs. Kenneth (Dorothy) Liss of Duncan and Theresa Kozak of Columbus.

    Mrs. Kuhlen died Friday morning in Behlen Community Hospital after a lingering illness.
    She was born at Norfolk, Dec. 2, 1905, the daughter of Ferdinand and Agnes (Schneck) Thomas. On Sep. 1, 1937 she married Henry J. Kuhlen at St, Bonaventure Catholic Church, Columbus, and they lived at Platte Center until moving to Columbus in 1971. Here she was a member of St. Isidore Parish and Christian Mothers.
    Preceded in death by her husband, Dec. 25, 1971, she is survived by two sons, Leon and Dan of Columbus; three daughters, Mrs. Tom (Marilyn) McPhillips of Columbus, Mrs. Don (Nancy) Frauendorfer of Humphrey and Mrs. Don (Arlene) Otterpohl of Lindsay, eight grandchildren.
    Also surviving are three brothers and five sisters: Adolph Thomas of Albion; Joe of Platte Center; Raymond and Mrs. Paul (Hildegard) Franks of Wyandotte, Mich.; Mrs. William (Erna) Steiner and Mrs. Everett (Martha) Jones of Columbus; Mrs. Rudy (Margaret) Steiner of Clarkson; Mrs. Frederick (Rose) Hoffman of Battle Creek.
    Her parents; brothers, Helmuth, Herman, Fritz, Rudolph; one infant brother and two infant sisters preceded her in death.

KELLY - Joe P. Kelly, 82, longtime owner of Kelly Brothers Plumbing, 2507 11th Street, died Saturday in Behlen Community Hospital. He had been ill the last two years. Funeral rites are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at McKown funeral chapel, where the body lies in state. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Westlawn Memorial Cemetery, Grand Island.
    Mr. Kelly moved from Grand Island to Columbus in July, 1932, at which time he established his business on 13th Street, and the following year he moved the firm to 11th Street. In 1973 he was cited as a 50 years plumber.
    Son of Luke and Anna (O'Hara) Kelly, he was born June 3, 1893 at DeSmet, S.D. and served in the Army during World War I. On July 3, 1926 at Aurora, Neb., he married Leora Ethel Rentfrow, who survives.
    Also surviving are a brother, Robert M. of Grand Island; sisters, Della Moran of Tustin, Calif., Mary Mathews of Sioux Falls, S.D., Lucy Kent of Costa Mesa, Calif.; brother-in-law, Lee E. Clanton of Columbus; seven nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by five brothers, Lee, Thomas, Vincent, Martin and William; two sisters, Mary Duffy and Frances Oswald.

BORKE - Edward F. Borke, 2904 Sixth Street, died unexpectedly Saturday morning at Behlen Community Hospital. He was 60.
    Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. The Rev. Laurin Buzynski will officiate. Rosary service will be 8 p.m. today at McKown Funeral Chapel where the body lies in state.
    Lifelong resident of Columbus, Mr. Borke was born here Oct. 3, 1915. During World War II he served three years with the 13th Air Force, including one and one-half years in Europe.
    For the last 10 years he was a security guard for Pinkerton's.
    Surviving are his wife, the former Irene Zoucha; two sons, Terry and James; one daughter, Karen; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Bill (Frances) Ifland and Mrs. Theresia Simpson of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Anna (Eschler) Borke.

KLUVER - A former businessman, retired farmer and Pioneer Corn salesman, Walter Kluver, 74, of Columbus died Saturday morning at Behlen Community Hospital after several years of failing health.
    The Rev. Donald Brooks officiated at the 2 p.m. services at the First Baptist Church today. Burial was in the Columbus Cemetery. McKown Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
    Mr. Kluver was born July 7, 1901, near Platte Center to Herman and Mary (Brunken) Kluver and was educated in Platte Center and later in Columbus. He married Martha Graul in Columbus Sept. 6, 1929, and they lived near Platte Center and later in Columbus.
    Surviving are his wife Martha; son, Roland of Cambridge, Mass.; daughters, Mrs. Jack (Beatrice) Roberts, of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. John (Mary) Lauber of Seward; one brother, Alfred (Bob) of Columbus; sisters, Mrs. Albert (Clara) Goering of Platte Center, Mrs. Shirley Morgan and Mrs. Lore (Dorothea) Pollard, both of Columbus; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
    Preceding in death were his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

    Born in Platte County June 22, 1894, she was the daughter of Peter and Katherine (Reese) Albers. After attending District 14 School in Platte County she married William Lloyd Nov. 15, 1917, at the home of the Rev. Hunnington in Columbus. They resided southeast of Lindsay before moving to Columbus in 1959. She was a member of the U and I Club.
    Surviving are her husband, sons, Willis of Denver, Harold and David of Monroe; daughter, Mrs. Gerry Konz of Monroe; brother, William Albers of Fremont; sisters, Mrs. David (Martha) Parry of Monroe and Mrs. William (Verna) Blessen of Columbus.
    Preceding her in death were parents, brothers, Henry and Walter of California and Jack of Chambers, Neb.; sisters, Mrs. Tom (Freida) Thomazin of Genoa, Mrs. Frank (Bertha) Baltz of Fremont, and Mrs. Ed (Emma) Ericson and Mrs. Owen (Elva) Parry, both of Genoa.

LISS - A retired farmer and carpenter, Peter A. Liss, 79, of 121 Seventh Avenue South, died Saturday in Behlen Community Hospital after a month's illness.

    Son of the late Peter and Catherine (Duraczenski) Liss, he was born Oct. 19, 1896 at Duncan and married Helen Yourkoski [sic], Feb. 15, 1922 at Krakow. He was a World War I veteran, serving with the 137th Infantry in France.
    A member of St. Anthony Parish, Mr. Liss is survived by his wife; three sons, Raymond of Columbus, Ben of Bellwood, Virgil of Omaha; four daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Dorothy) Greer of Eugene, Ore., Mrs. Mel (Florence) Franklin of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Vic (Sally) Jarosz of Columbus and Mrs. Leonard (Esther) Nowak of Omaha.
    Also surviving are a brother, Martin of Silver Creek; six sisters, Mrs. Tekla Kava of Genoa, Mrs. Frances Jarecki of Duncan, Mrs. Barbara Niedbalski of Columbus, Mrs. Mary Gancos of Loup City, Mrs. Veronica Yrkoski of Silver Creek and Pauline Kresha of Osceola; 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. JACKSON - A Columbus businessman, Terry L. Jackson, of 3070 North Parklane, died Sunday in Behlen Community Hospital at the age of 36. He was owner of Jackson Laundry.
    Funeral rites are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with Rev. Regis Watts officiating. Burial will be in Columbus Cemetery.
    The body lies in state at McKown Funeral Chapel, where wake service is scheduled at 8 p.m. today and a Cursillo service at 8:30 p.m.
    Lifetime resident of Columbus, Terry was born May 3, 1939 to Lee and Lowene (Hall) Jackson. He was a graduate of Columbus High School and the National Institute of Dry Cleaning, Silver Spring, Md.
    A member of St. Bonaventure Parish, he was for the last two years deeply involved in spiritual renewal work, including the Cursillo, Charismatic movements and AA. He was a former member of the Columbus Vounteer Fire Department.
    His marriage to Joyce Feilmeier took place Aug. 13, 1960 at St. Bonaventure Church.
    He is survived by four children, Vicki, Torri, Terri and Tom; his parents; two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Larry (Judy) Grubaugh, Mrs. Roger (Connie) Modrow and Jay Jackson, all of Columbus.
    The family suggess memorials to St. Bonaventure Church, American Cancer Society or the donor's choice.

BERRY - Wayland W. Berry, 53, of 1417 11th Street, died Sunday at Behlen Community Hospital after a long illness.
    Tuesday 10 a.m. services will be conducted by Rev. John McGee at Gass-Haney Funeral Home, where the body lies in state until that time. Burial with military rites will be in Columbus Cemetery.
    Born June 10, 1922 at Chester, N.H., he was graduated from high school at Raymond, N.H., and served with the Air Force in England during World war II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Federated Church.
    On Nov. 12, 1945 at Belleville, Kan., he married Norma Galley and had since lived in Columbus. He was owner of B and B Motor Supply Inc. at Albion.

    Tonia was born Dec 2, 1973, to Al and Roxanne (Woods) Jane in Columbus. KOSCH - Funeral services for Larry Max Kosch, 25, of 731 Countryview Estates, will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Potocki officiating. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
    The body will lie in state at McKown Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Thursday with Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and rosary at 8 p.m.
    Mr. Kosch died Tuesday of injuries received in an auto accident Sunday night. He was employed at Spencer Foods, Schuyler.
    Son of Max and Grace (Bernt) Kosch, he was born July 20, 1950 in Columbus and married Shirley Anna Burkhardt on June 24, 1972 at St. Isidore Catholic Church.
    Surviving are his wife; two sons, Larry Sam, 2, and Dylan Ray, 1; his parents; brother, Stanley; sisters, Ann of Pittsburg, Kan., Mary Jane and Paulette; grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bernt of Columbus and Regina Kosch of David City. An infant sister, Mary Ann, and his grandfather Alois D. Kosch preceded him in death.

JOHNSON - Eril A. Johnson, 54, 2657 46th Avenue, died unexpectedly Thursday at Behlen Community Hospital. An IBM operator for Gerhold Co., he was employed by the company for 14 years.
    Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Mikkelsen officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The body will lie in state at McKown Funeral Chapel, 1 p.m. Thursday until noon Friday; and at church 1-2 p.m. Friday
    Mr. Johnson was born Aug 2, 1921 at Monroe Nebraska, the son of Lewis H. and Elsie S. (Pearson) Johnson. He attended Monroe schools and Chillicothe, Mo., Business College. During World War II he served in the Army from Sept. 1942 to Sept. 1943.
    A Methodist, he married Thelma L. Moore on April 12, 1957 at the Ulysses Methodist Church. He was employed by the Ulysses State Bank until moving to Columbus in 1962.
    He is survived by his wife; son Glenn, and daughters, Sandy, Becky and Carolyn, all of Columbus: his father of Genoa and his mother, resident of Clover Lodge Rest Home, St Edward.

BURES - A retired farmer, Alois Bures, 80, of Dodge died Saturday in the West Point Hospital following a six-month illness. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Humlicek Funeral Home, Dodge. Burial will be in the Clarkson Cemetery. Visitation will be this afternoon and evening at the funeral home.

KUSH - Funeral services for a former Polk County resident, Joseph C. Kush, 83, were held Monday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Cemetery at St. Paul, Neb., with Rev. Robert Rooney officiating.
    In failing health for several months, Mr. Kush died Dec. 11 at his St. Paul home. He was born near Shelby Feb. 12, 1892, the son of Thomas and Catherine (Barnes) Kush; received his education in Osceola and later moved with his parents to Clarks where they farmed.
    In 1916 he married Mrs. Clara Mostek Gutzmer at Shelby. They farmed for a time near Shelby, and in the late 1920s moved to St. Paul, where he worked on various farms and later was employed at Curly's Recreation Center and Kelly's Tavern.
    He is survived by a son, Joseph Jr. of Topeka, Kan.; stepdaughter, Mrs. Gordon Kruse of Fremont; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother Thomas of Omaha; four sisters, Mrs. Steve Czuba and Mrs. Vera Kuta, both of Columbus, Mrs. Josie Prorock of Fullerton, Mrs. Coy Morrison of Odessa.
    Preceding him in death were his wife, 1969; son Rolland, in World War II; 16-year-old son, Ralph, 1946; stepson, Marvin; stepdaughter, Clair Jacobs, whose two daughters made their home with Mr. Kush; three sisters, Mrs. Pauline Morris, Mrs. Mary Czapla, Mrs. Agnes Czapla; and a brother, Louis.--[submitted by Marge Galus Sandlier--no relationship to deceased]

BAXA - Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward Catholic Church, Belleville, Kan., for Mrs. Anna A. Baxa, 74, mother of Columbus Police Chief Wesley Baxa. She was killed in a traffic accident Saturday near York, Neb.
    Rosary service is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Tibbetts Brothers Funeral Home in Belleville.
    Resident of that area since 1921, Mrs. Baxa is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ann Byrd of Wasco, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Cahoj of Atwood, Kan., Mrs. Agnes Ross of Littleton, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

BEHLEN - Pioneer industrialist Fred A. Behlen dies
    Pioneer Columbus industrialist Fred A. Behlen, 97, died today at his home, 111 North Parkway.
    The body is at Gass-Haney Funeral Home, where funeral arrangements are pending.
    A native of Platte County, Mr. Behlen farmed and later operated the Lake Side Dairy.
    In association with his son, Walter Behlen, Fred Behlen launched a small manufacturing operation in a home garage in Columbus and that proved the forerunner of today's Behlen Manufacturing Company which helped trigger the nationally-known industrial surge here. Two other sons, Gilbert and H.P. (Mike) Behlen, were later associated in the business.
    His wife and nine children survive. A full obituary appears on Page 10 of today's Telegram.

BEHLEN - Fred A. Behlen, 97, of 111 North Parkway, a pioneer Columbus industrialist, died today at his home. Arrangements are pending with Gass-Haney Funeral Home in charge.
    The son of Dietrich and Johanna (Jennschke) Behlen, he was born Nov. 8, 1878, on a farm in Platte County. The second of nine children, Mr. Behlen was educated in Platte County School District 35, of which he later was a director for years.
    While his formal education was necessarily limited, he was a self-educated man, an ardent reader and a born mechanic. He read many books and the Bible "from cover to cover."
    A Baptist and member of First Baptist Church here, he was married to Ella Sarah Benthack of Columbus on Nov. 4, 1903, at Shell Creek Baptist Church, 10 miles north of Columbus.
    They made their home on a farm nine miles north of Columbus until 1921, when they sold the farm and bought a small acreage west of Columbus. He operated the Lake Side Dairy for some years.
    In 1928, Fred Behlen and his son, Walter, bought a home at 4201 15th Street. There, in the garage, they started making clampons for egg case covers, steel toes for wooden shoes, and rollers for husking machines. This was the humble start of what is now the Behlen Manufacturing Company.
    He is survived by his wife; four sons, Adolph of Shawnee, Okla., Walter, Gilbert and Herbert (Mike) of Columbus; five daughters, Mrs. Selma Burns of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. B.F. (Norma) Tiesing of Sequim, Wash., Mrs. Frank (Frances "Billie") Brakel of Evansville, Ind., and twins, Mrs. C.V. (Ruth) Jones of Columbus and Mrs. W.L. (Ruby) Wilken of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harry of Fresno, Calif.
    Mr. Behlen was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Edward, Arthur and Phillip; and four sisters, Mrs. John (Hulda) Fittje, Mrs. Adolph (Minnie) Markline, Mrs. John (Laura) Kamm and Mrs. Henry (Clara) Doberstein.

BONK - Kevin John Bonk, 5-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Bonk, 1207 17th Street, died Monday afternoon at Children's Memorial Hospital in Omaha. He had been ill four days.
    Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Regis Watts at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at McKown Funeral Chapel, where the body lies in state.
    Kevin was born in Columbus, July 16, 1970, and was a kindergarten student at Emerson School. Baptized at St. Bonaventure Church, he was confirmed in Omaha.
    Surviving are his parents, John M. and Elaine B. (Alt) Bonk; two sisters, Debbie and Beverly, and one brother, Tim, all at home; his grandmother, Mrs. Anna Bonk of Columbus.
    He was preceded in death by grandparents, Charles Bonk of Columbus, John and Clara Alt of Shelby.
    The family suggests memorials to the Rayes Syndrome Fund.

    His body will lie in state 3-9 p.m. today at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel and 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Federated Church.
    Mr. Behlen, formerly associated with his sons in the Behlen Manufacturing Company, died Monday at home.
    The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church, Platte College Foundation or the donor's choice.
