BREGA--Brega Rites - Mrs. Grace L. Brega, 79, died Thursday night at Columbus Manor. She was the mother of Robert Brega, Columbus teacher. The body will be transferred from Gass-Haney Funeral Home to the Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home at Callaway for services at the Episcopal Church, 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be at Callaway.

KOCH--Edna Koch funeral will be Saturday
Mrs. Edna Koch, 90 (?), formerly of Bleu Boelus, died Wednesday at Morys Haven where she had resided since last July. She was the mother of Mrs. Donald (Venus) Whitefoot, Columbus.
Funeral services are set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Boelus with Rev. Bruce Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery, Grand Island.
Her body will live in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel after 1 p.m. Friday and at the church on Saturday.
Mrs. Koch was born Sept 28, 1880 at Dannebrog to Ferdinand and Elizabeth Lorenzen Detlefsen. She married Henry Arthur Koch at Grand Island Nov. 23, 1910, and they farmed near Cairo and Boelus, retiring to Boelus in 1958.
Her husband lives with relatives in Cheyenne. Also surviving are five daughters, two sons, 29 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, five sisters and two brothers. Two brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren preceded her in death.

Funeral services for James (Joe) Belford, 56, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
The Rev. Armand Lubanski will officiate, with burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. The body lies in state at McKown Funeral Home, and there will be a Scripture service there at 7:30 p.m. today.
Mr. Belford, of 3014 7th Street, died Thursday at Veterans Hospital in Lincoln after being in failing health the past year.
The son of Lester and Elizabeth Belford, he was born in Chicago, Ill., on Jan. 23, 1904. He was educated at Technical High School and Omaha University.
He was married to Helen Cain in 1932 in Omaha. They resided there unti 1955, then spent three years in Kearney before coming to Columbus. Mr. Belford was a switchman for the Union Pacific Railroad.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Belford served from Sept. 2, 1942, to Nov. 20, 1945. He was in Company E of the 16th Infantry.
Mr. Belford was affiliated with St. Anthony Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles Lodge. He was also active in Little League Baseball.
Survivors include his wife; an aunt, Sister Mary Winifred of Petaluma, Calif.; and an uncle, Tom Belford of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Elizabeth Belford, and his parents.

Mr. Bohner, of 1164 35th Avenue, died early Tuesday morning at University Hospital in Omaha. He had bee ill since October of 1970.
He was born May 10, 1912, at Fullerton, the son of Clinton and Nellie Brown Bohner, and was educated in Fullerton and Columbus. He came to Columbus at age 11, and had since resided here with the exception of eight years spent in Fremont.
Mr. Bohner was married to Helen Johannes May 28, 1939, at Christ Lutheran Church.
An employe of Douglas & Lomason Company, he was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Harold L., student at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Gordon K., who attends the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks, and Orville D. of Monroe; one daughter, Mrs. Terry (Rose) Davis of Columbus; two grandchildren, Jason Bohner and Kimberly Davis; three brothers, Clarence and Clyde of St. Joseph, Mo., and Kenneth of Mulvane, Kan.; and one sister, Bessie of St. Joseph, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charles of Fullerton, Leon of Columbus and Jake of Oklahoma; and a sister, Betty, of Sioux Falls, S.D.

KURTH--Hector Kurth rites set here Saturday
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel for Hector Kurth, 97, a former Platte County resident who died Wednesday in Englewood, Colo.
The Rev. John McGee will officiate with burial in Columbus Cemetery. His body now lies in state.
Son of the late Rudolph and Eliza Hunguer Kurth, he was born Aug. 11, 1873 in Platte County near Genoa. He was educated at District 34 School and served as director of that school board for many years.
Mr. Kurth farmed near Genoa until 1924, when he moved to Columbus. Because of health, he moved to Denver in 1951 to live with his daughter, and since 1969 had lived in a nursing home.
He was a member of the IOOF Lodge at Genoa. On April 28, 1901, at Duncan he married Valnet Blodgett, who preceded him in death March 10, 1930.
Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Lester (Clara) Engel of Denver; son George D. of Des Moines; one sister Mrs. Robert (Frieda) Hazlitt of St. Edward; one brother, Sam of Fullerton; two grandsons and four great-grandchildren. Five brothers and sisters are deceased.

BARNAS--Final rites Tuesday for Felix Barnas, retired Tarnov farmer
Felix Barnas, 71, of 2214 17th Street, died unexpctedly Friday afternoon in St. Mary Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Scripture service is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday at McKown Funeral Home where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. that day.
Mr. Barnas, a retired farmer, had lived in the Tarnov community before moving to Columbus.
He was born there April 27, 1899 to John and Balbina Czuba Barnas, and attended St. Michael School.
He married Genevive Chochon on Oct. 25, 1926 at Tarnov.
Since moving to Columbus he was a member of St. Bonaventure Church.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Darlene) Sok of Oakland and Mrs. Ralph (Lorraine) Hemmer of Fremont; five sisters, Mrs. Peter (Mary) Pier of Spalding, Mrs. Helen Jarosz of Humphrey, Mrs. Tony (Leona) Toczek of Genoa, Mrs. Henry (Emma) Paprocki of Tarnov, Miss Rita Barnas of Columbus; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Joseph, Edward, Ralph, Carl and Arthur.

KINZER--Mrs. Hartzel Kinzer rites here Saturday
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at McKown Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Hart Kinzer, 36, who died of a massive cerebral hemorrhage in Algonac, Mich. Death occurred Monday after a two-week illness.
Officiating at the funeral will be the Rev. Robert Ahlenius. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Nee Nancy Cartwright she was born May 2, 1934 at Algonac, where she spent her lifetime. The daughter of Amos and Maude Brabaw Cartwright, she attended the Algonac city schools and married Hartzel Kinzer on Dec. 23, 1950.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church.
Surviving are her husband, formerly of Columbus; son Hart Amos Jr. 19; daughter, Petti Lynn, 9; sisters, Mrs. Art (Ester) LaPonsa and Mrs. Bud (Becky) Cahill, both of Algonac; three nieces and one nephew.
Her father died in 1969; her mother, in 1943.

Milton J. Bartels, 1664 29th Avenue, died unexpectedly Thursday at Behlen Memorial Hospital. He was 68.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Rev. B.F. Meschke officiating, and burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The body will lie in state at McKown Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Friday until noon Saturday, then at church from 1 to 2 p.m.
Mr. Bartels, a lifetime resident of Columbus, was born here July 13, 1902 to Diedrick and Dorothea Rodehorst Bartels. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and attended rural school.
On March 12, 1928 at Hot Springs, S.D., he married Ann C. Ernst, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Dolores) Giles of Eau Gallie, Fla., and Mrs. Peter (Marilyn) Digillo of Omaha; five grandchidren; two brothers, George of Peetz, Colo., and Walter of Columbus; three sisters, Mrs. Laura Muff of Chicago Heights, Ill., Mrs. Lill Plageman and Mrs. Helen Lusche of Columbus.
His parents; sister, Clara Fiddelke, and brother, Elmer, preceded him in death.

BECHER--Herman Becher rites here
Funeral services for Herman Becher, 82, retired Columbus police officer, will be held Wednesday.
There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, with funeral rites at 10:30. The Rev. Otto Schlegelmilch will officiate, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park. The body now lies in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Home, and will lie in state at the church Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to the time of service.
Mr. Becher died Saturday at Newman Grove Community Hospital, where he had been a week.
He was born March 15, 1889, in Grand Prairie Township, the son of Dietrich and Catherine G. Johannes Becher, and attended St. John Lutheran School. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Church by the Rev. E. Holm.
On Aril 17, 1913, Mr. Becher and Olga Depe were married at St. John Church by Pastor Holm. They farmed north of

Columbus until 1936, spent two years in Creston, then moved to Columbus.
Mrs. Becher died March 8, 1965. Mr. Becher had resided in Newman Grove's mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home since 1967.
Mr. Becher served as director of the District 77 school board for 15 years, and was Grand Prairie township treasurer for two terms.
In 1930, he was elected to the Platte County Board of Supervisors for District 1. Re-elected in 1934, he served until 1938, when he resigned to become WPA project superintendent of Platte and Colfax Counties.
After the program was discontinued, he served as Civilian Auxiliary to the Military Police at the Cornhusker Ordnance Plant, 1940-42.
From 1943-48 Mr. Becher operated a service station here. He joined the Columbus Police Department in 1949, serving until retirement at age 70, in 1959.
He is survived by three sons, Harry L. of Brownsville, Tex., A. Walter of Newman Grove and D. Albert of Cody, Wyo.; five daughters, Mrs. Godfrey (Lorena) Ditter of Monroe, Mrs. Keith (Marie) Rush of Seward, Mrs. Duane (Alyce) Ernst and Mrs. William (Edythe) Bembry of Columbus, and Mrs. Glenn (Florence) Konrady of Ida Grove, Iowa.
Other survivors are 27 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred of Columbus; and three sisters, Mrs. Hannah Kapels of Creston, Mrs. Fred (Emma) Bargmann and Mrs. J.R. (Louise) Prest of Columbus.
Mr. Becher was preceded in death by his wife; son, Milton E. in 1955; one grandson, Tommy; his parents; three brothers, Dick, John and William Becher; and one sister, Mrs. William (Annie) Inselman.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to Peace Lutheran Building Fund, Daily Devotions, or Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home.

BECHER--Becher Rites - Funeral rites for Herman Becher, 82, former Columbus policeman, were conducted by Rev. Otto Schlegelmilch at Peace Lutheran Church Wednesday morning. Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery, and the pallbearers were Bill Strong, Martin Inselman, Eldon Kapels, Bruno Becher, Raymond Marty and Leonard Becher. JOHANNES--Melvin Johannes funeral rites set Monday afternoon
The funeral of Melvin (Mickey) Johannes, 48, Rt. 1, Leigh, will be 1 p.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, 14 miles north of Columbus, with burial there.
Officiating will be Rev. Richard Luttman. The body will lie in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Sunday and at church after 11 a.m. Monday.
Mr. Johannes, who died Friday in Clarkson Hospital, Omaha, was a farmer and worked in the sheet metal department of Behlen Manufacturing Company. Except for a few years at Colby, Kan., he had lived north of Columbus.
He was born July 6, 1922, at Creston to John C. and Louise Depe Johannes. Baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, he attended parochial school there.
His marriage to Delores Engelbart took place March 14, 1945 at St. John Lutheran Church, Leigh, and she survives.
Their children are Mrs. Merlin (Nancy) Siefken of Red Oak, Iowa; Marlin of Columbus; Lorrie, Vernon and Genise, at home. Also surviving are two grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Louise Johannes, and brother, Eugene, both of Creston. His father preceded him in death.
The family suggests memorials to Daily Devotions, heart fund or American Cancer Society. Lawrence Osten will receive memorials at church.

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Johannes, 92, of 2612 21st Street, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Otto Schlegelmilch officiating.

Mrs. Johannes, who died Monday at home, was a life-long resident of Platte County.
Daughter of the late William and Elisa Engelbart Wurdeman, she was born Feb. 15, 1879 and was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church.
On Oct. 16, 1902 she married John Johannes and lived in the Leigh community where she was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. Moving to Columbus in 1960, she joined Peace Lutheran Church.
She is survived by five children, Ellen, Werner and Mrs. Martin (Irene) Rickert of Columbus, Clarence of Leigh, Mrs. Rheao (Viola) Timblin of Unadila; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Erich Wurdeman of Schuyler, Adolph Wurdeman of Leigh; and one sister, Mrs. Clara Wilke of Columbus.
Her husband died in 1947. Also preceding her in death were a sister, Mrs. Frieda Grotelueschen, and brother, Otto Wurdeman.

Clarence Jackson (Jack) Bates, formerly of Columbus, collapsed Thursday night of an apparent heart attack at the North Bend Central High School athletic banquet and was pronounced dead on arrival at Dodge County Community Hospital in Fremont. He was 50.
A sales representative and sports broadcaster for the Fremont radio station, KHUB, Mr. Bates was acting as master of ceremonies at the banquet when he was stricken.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Lattin-Dugan-Chambers Funeral Home in Fremont.
A resident of Columbus from 1946 to 1965, Mr. Bates was associated with the soft drink bottling ocmpany here.
The World War II Signal Corps veteran was born Dec. 13, 1920 in Atlanta, Ga., where he received his education. His parents were James B. and Carrie Moody Bates.
On Oct. 20, 1944 he married Mescal Daisy Turner at Walhalla, S.C.
He was a member of the American Legion; Fremont Masonic Lodge, No. 15 AF & AM; Elks Lodge and United Methodist Church.
Surviving ar his wife; five children, Bert, serving in the U.S. Air Force in England, Frank of Fremont, Betty, Barbara and Bill, at home; three grandsons; his mother, Mrs. Carrie E. Bates, and brother, William, both of Columbus.

Mrs. Kruse, a lifetime resident of this community, died unexpectedly Monday at home.
She was born Sept. 23, 1908 at Columbus to Otto and Lenora Bisson Schmidt. She attended District 9 school and was graduated from Columbus High School.
Baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, she was a lifelong member.
Children are: Gerhard Jack of Omaha; Mrs. Leo (Lila) Uzendoski and Mrs. Hilbert (Wilma) Lesiak of Columbus; Mrs. Larry (Kathryn) Henry of Schuyler; Mrs. Dale (Joan) Graham, and Mrs. Bill (Anita) Raumaker of Omaha.
Also surviving are a brother Walter E. Schmidt of Columbus; sister, Mrs. Lillian Luers of Central City; and 13 grandchildren. Her parents preceded her in death.

KREBS--Tom Krebs dies; funeral Wednesday
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke United Church of Christ for Tom Krebs, 89, of 761 22nd Avenue. He died Monday in St. Mary Hospital.
The Rev. John McGee will officiate, with burial in Columbus Cemetery. Body will lie in state from 3 p.m. today until noon Wednesday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home, then from 1 to 2 p.m. at church.
Son of the late Frederick Thomas and Elizabeth Gerber Krebs, he was born March 5, 1882 in Omaha, but spent most of his life in this community. He had been a construction worker for Glur Cement Works, and was a member of St. Luke Church.
On Oct. 26, 1935 at Topeka he married Elsie Lueschen, who survives. BOSS--Saturday rites here for Mrs. Mary Boss
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Boss, 71, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel with Rev. John P. McGee in charge.
Her body will lie in state at the chapel after 1 p.m. Friday, and burial will be in Gruetli Cemetery at Monroe.
Mrs. Boss, formerly of Monroe, died Monday in an Omaha nursing home where she resided the last 14 months.
Daughter of the late Albert and Mary Imhof Hurner, she was born April 6, 1900 in the Gruetli community. She married Jess Boss on Dec. 31, 1925 and they farmed near Monroe until retiring to town in 1943.
She was a member of the Gruetli United Church of Christ.
Preceded in death by her husband in 1953, Mrs. Boss is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Stahr of Council Bluffs, Iowa; son, Sam Boss of Fremont; one sister, Anna Hurner of Monroe; eight grandchldren. Four brothers and two sisters are deceased.

LUCHSINGER--Melinda Luchsinger dies Sunday at 86, funeral Wedesday
Mrs. Melinda E. Luchsinger, 86, of 1810 8th Street, died Sunday evening at Behlen Memorial Hospital. She had been in poor health the past several years.
Funeral services, with Rev. H. M. Rathkamp officiating, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, and burial will be in Columbus Cemetery.
The body is to lie in state from 1 p.m. Tuesday until noon Wednesday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home, then at the church from 1 p.m. to the time of service.
The daughter of John and Leanna Ewalt Schmoll, she was born June 2, 1884, at Pleasant Hill, Mo., and received her education there.
She was married to Frank Luchsinger, March 7, 1912, at Harrisonville, Mo., and they lived on the family farm northeast of Columbus. She moved to Columbus in 1918 following the death of her husband.
Mrs. Luchsinger was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and was also a member of Ladies Aid and Kensington Circle.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Memorial Fund or the donor’s choice.
Surviving are five children, Walter W., Frank J., Mrs. Alvin M. (Marguerite) Meyer, Mrs. Floyd (Katherine) Croisant and Lucille Luchsinger, all of Columbus; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Knepper, who died Monday in Behlen Memorial Hospital after an illness of 10 days, was zone manager for Food Center Inc., a division of Nash-Finch. Previously, he had lived in Broken Bow and Fullerton.
He was born March 26, 1906 at Scottsbluff to Cyrus E. and Alice Myers Knepper. He attended Grand Island Business College and married Elizabeth Hodson on Sept. 18, 1928 at McCook.
A member of United Methodist Church, Mr. Knepper served on school and hospital boards at Fullerton and as president of the Lions Club.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Robert D. of Kansas City, Mo., and John E. of Perry Iowa; two brothers, Robert and Eldon, both of Thedford; eight grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death.

JONES--Blanche A. Jones Funeral is today
Blanche A. Jones, 84, 3215 16th St., died Friday morning in Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Tex., where she has spent the past few months.
Her funeral was 10:30 a.m. today at Gass-Haney chapel with the Rev. Russell Crocker officiating. Burial was in Columbus cemetery.
She was born June 21, 1886, in Genoa, to D. A. and Lottie Willard. Following her education at Genoa schools she married William B. Jones Oct. 20, 1905 in Council Bluffs.
The couple lived in Council Bluffs until 1908, then in Genoa until 1911 when they came to Columbus.
They observed their golden wedding anniversary Oct. 20, 1955, and had been married 63 years when Mr. Jones died July 3, 1969.
She was a member of Harmony Chapter 13, O.E.S., and had her fifty-year pin. She also was a member of Delphians, Alpha Kensington, DAR, American Legion Auxiliary and Federated church where she was active in its affairs.
Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Glen (Patricia) Krueger of San Antonio, Tex., three grandchildren, Jean, Jerry and Janet Krueger, all of San Antonio; brothers, Allan and Paul both of Seattle, Wash.; sister, Mrs. H. A. (Hazel) Evans of Washington, D.C.
Her husband, parents, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
Lee Krueger, William C. Krueger, Julian Meyer, Bont Speice, Keith Penfield and Mark Boettcher served as pallbearers.

Born Oct. 22, 1888, in Osceola to Joheil and Caroline Lockner, he attended Osceola Schools. He married Martha Gans in Osceola March 16, 1910, and the couple lived in Columbus.
He worked for the old Central Electric and Gas Co., forerunner of Cengas, and received a 30-year pin for service. He retired in 1954 after a 44-year career.
Mr. Bartholomew was a member of Izaac Walton League, IOOF, Columbus Gun Club.
Survivors include daughters, Mmes. Nettie Spidle, Loretta Hansen, Matt (Lorene) Ernst, all of Columbus; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; brother, Art; sister, Mrs. Sadie Watts of Omaha.

Born Aug. 12, 1893, to Rudolph and Marie Oltman Jenny, he attended Platte County Dist. 23 School. His marriage to Ida Hake Dec. 5, 1917, took place at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The couple lived near Leigh, Madison and at the time of his death, Creston. Mr. Jenny was engaged in farming.
A member of the Lutheran Brotherhood af St. Peter's he was confirmed at St. Paul's Church in Leigh. The family suggests memorials to St. Peter's Church.
Survivors include his widow, Ida; son, Martin of Creston; brothers, Ernest of Norfolk and Henry of Leigh.

Three-year-old Michael Kane died Saturday afternoon after pulling a propane gas tank over on himself at the trailer home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Cline.
Sheriff Don Franzen said the gas tank was standing unfastened, along the trailer home parked in Oconee. Michael apparently took hold of the copper tubing leading into the trailer; pulling the tank over.
Mrs. Cline found the boy and called trailer park owners Mr. and Mrs. Dale Richards and they gave the boy artificial resuscitation. The boy had suffered from a disease that might have contributed to his death.
Mrs. Cline was taken to the hospital to be treated for shock.
Michael Thomas Kane was the son of John and Karren Gjesdal Cline of Rt. 3, Green Acres Trailor court.
Born Dec. 14. 1967, in Monroe, Wash., he was originally adopted by Dr. Robert Kane, DVM, who resides in Plentywood, MO., and Mrs. Kane, now Mrs. Cline.

Alois P. Jarecki Sr., 73, Rt. 2, Columbus, died Saturday at St. Mary Hosptial after a ___-week illness.

He was born April 5, 1898, in Platte County, the son of Stephen and Angeline Tryba Jarecki, and attended St. Stanislaus School at Duncan.
Mr. Jarecki was married to Mollie Malenia Czapla Oct. 15, 1929, at St. Stanislaus Church, Duncan. They farmed in Platte County 10 years, then moved to the present farm three and a half miles south of Columbus.
A Catholic, Mr. Jarecki was a member of St. Anthony Church and the Holy Name Society. His hobbies were hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Emil and Al Jr. of Columbus; five daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Judy) Alt of Shelby, Mrs. Ralph (Virginia) Wemhoff of Pearland, Tex., Mrs. Ronald (Dorothy) Shotkoski of Fullerton, Mrs. James (Lorraine) Gourka of Humphrey, and Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Borer of Columbus; and 21 grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Stanley and Emery of Columbus; and two sisters, Mrs. John Podraza and Mrs. Elizabeth Zabawa of Columbus.

Mr. Ball, of 3002 14th Street, died Wednesday morning at Behlen Memorial Hospital after an illness of seven weeks.
He was born Jan. 12, 1886, at Mt. Hope, Grant County, Wis., the son of Elsworth and Minnie Tubbs Ball, and was graduated from high school at Petersburg, Neb. Mr. Ball and his wife, Sara K., were married Oct. 6, 1909, at Madison.
After graduation from high school, Mr. Ball moved with his parents to Albion, where over the years he was a teller at First National Bank, officer of Farmers State Bank, then engaged in many years of farming and livestock raising. He later operated a booterie, and with his wife organized and operated a physicians' hospital.
Moving to Genoa in 1931, he managed a Kent and Burke Ranch for several years, then managed livestock sale barns in Elgin and Bloomfield before returning to Albion and farming in 1940.
In the fall of 1943, he moved to Columbus, and after his retirement from Montgomery Ward worked as a bookkeeper at Columbus Plumbing & Heating and Columbus Industrial Supply until his permanent retirment [sic]. He made his home in Columbus with a son-in-law and daughter.
Mr. Ball was a member by affiliation of Lebanon Lodge No. 323, A.F. & A.M., and was membership pin [sic] April 5, 1971. For many years he was a member of the Albion Volunteer Fire Department, was a longtime 4-H leader, and worked with the Boy Scouts until the past year.
He became a member of the Congregational Church of Albion in 1915 and upon moving to Columbus he transferred membership to the Federated Church, where he was an active member until his death.
An avid reader and sportsman, hunting and fishing occupied his time until his final illness.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. L.A. (Gwendolyn) Noble of Albion and Mrs. L.O (Kathryn) Deden of Columbus; two granddaughters, Mrs. John (Geraldine) Beckmann of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Mrs. Dan (Jennie) Behles of Carlsbad, N.M.; nine great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren, 32 step-great-grandchildren, 12 step-great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ball was preceded in death by his wife, Sara, in 1963; a son-in-law, Dean O. Meyers; two grandson[s]; his parents and only brother.

Mrs. Klaus died Wednesday evening in a Grand Island rest home where she had lived the last several years.
Daughter of the late William and Edith Hough Campbell, she was born Oct. 8, 1881 in Michigan moving to Chicago as a small child.
There she married Edward Hall in 1902. After his death she married Frank Klaus at Crown Point, Ind., on Oct. 9, 1920 and in 1921 they moved to Rt. 2, Columbus. He died in 1945.
Mrs. Klaus did practical nursing in Omaha. She was a member of United Methodist Church, former member of WSCS and was affiliated with the WGB. She was fond of traveling.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. J.W. (Frances) Echliman of Grand Island, Mrs. Melvin (Elizabeth) Goedeken of Columbus; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Kyle of Chicago; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A son William Hall, died in Chicago in 1966. Two brothers, one sister and a great-grandchild also preceded her in death.

Born Jan. 19, 1885, in Columbus to Charles and Elizabeth Reider Klaus, she attended Columbus schools and married Frank Beier in 1912. The couple lived on a farm near Bellwood for several years and then moved into town. She has been at the Manor since last October.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Mike Gans, Columbus; foster brother, Richard Dennis, Seward; nephew, Charles Gans, Columbus.

BLASER--Funeral rites for Edward R. Blaser held in Colorado
Funeral services for Edward R. Blaser, 68, of 6140 West 30th Avenue, Wheat Ridge Colo. were held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Wheat Ridge Congregational Church at 6310 West 29th Avenue. Burial will be in Crown Hill.
Mr. Blaser, who died Monday at St. Anthony Hospital in Wheat Ridge, was born June 17, 1903, in Columbus, and attended schools in Nebraska. He was married to Louise Lund on July 21, 1924, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Owner of the Blaser Produce Company in Columbus for many years, Mr. Blaser was later employed at Central National Bank here from 1951 until moving to Denver in 1961. He was manager of West Ridge H & R Block Co. office for the past six years.
Mr. Blaser is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Geraldine Trent of Boulder, Colo., Mrs. Clarice Everett of A rvada and Mrs. Virginia Seberg of Wheat Ridge; one sister, Mrs. Clara Schmid, Columbus; two brothers, John Blaser of Duncan and Hector of Monroe; and nine grandchidren.

William A. Bernt, 91 of 1365 32nd Avenue, died Saturday at Behlen Memorial Hospital. He had been ill the past six months.
Last rites will be conducted by Rev. H.M. Rathkamp at 2 p.m Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home, where the body now lies in state. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
The son of the late John and Katherine Krebsbach Bernt, he was born Oct. 16, 1879, in Polk County.
Mr. Bernt was married to Mary Hasselbalch Sept. 23, 1901, at Osceola. They resided on a farm near Shelby, and moved to Columbus about 40 years ago.
He engaged in farming and carpentry work, and was a clerk for his son at Bernt Sport Shop here.
Survivors include a son, Roy, Columbus; brother, Julius Bernt of Shelby; and sisters, Mrs. Adolph Grossnicklaus of Osceola and Mrs. Ella Smith of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his wife, on June 14, 1967; brother, Adolph Bernt; and sisters, Mrs. L.J. (Emma) Enyeart and Mrs. C.W. (Molly) Ballou.

BLOEBAUM--Bloebaum funeral will be Thursday
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at McKown Funeral Home for Herman H. Bloebaum, 70, of 3920 23rd Street. He died Monday at Nebraska Methodist Hospital, Omaha, after a lingering illness.
His body lies in state at the funeral home until time of the service, which will be conducted by Rev. H.M. Rathkamp. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.
A resident of Columbus for 23 years, Mr. Bloebaum operated Riverview Inn before he retired in November, 1970.
He was born Nov. 11, 1900 at Herford, Germany, where he married Erna Kuper on May 25, 1922. He was a Navy veteran of World War I.
Surviving are his wife; sons, Alfred of Lincoln, Siegfried, with the Air Force in Germany, Harold of Columbus; one daughter, Mrs. Arno (Margaret) Andersen of Omaha; 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters and a brother, Martha Lange of Clearwater; Minnie Gostmeier and August Bloebaum, both of Herford, Germany.

Miss Brugger died unexpectedly Wednesday morning at St. Mary Hospital.
Born in Columbus July 2, 1887, she was the daughter of Melchior and Mathilde Stenger Brugger, who were Columbus pioneers.
Miss Brugger was a graduate of Columbus High School, the University of Nebraska in the Class of 1910, and the Oberlin Kindergarten Training School, Oberlin, Ohio. After teaching kindergarten in Williams School in Columbus, she returned to Oberlin Kindergarten Training School as a member of the teaching staff.
She received an M.A. degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York City, and was briefly on their staff for early childhood education before going to George Peabody College, Nashville, Tenn., to continue the developement of nursery school education.
Miss Brugger then went to Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, to be director of the Nursery School, where she supervised the training of students. She held a like position at Mills College, Oakland, Calif. Because she was a pioneer in this field, she was elected vice president of the Association for Childhood Education International representing nursery school education.
As part of a demonstration project founded by the DuPont Foundation, she spent a year in Delaware working throughout the state with parents of nursery school children.
Miss Brugger concluded her career as director of the Nursery School, again supervising students in training, at Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
She returned to Columbus to care for her mother, who died at the age of 97. She was also preceded in death by her father, and brothers, Albert and Melvin Brugger.
Survivors are her sisters, Mrs. Daniel M. Beal and Florence Brugger of Columbus; nephew, Robert Melvin Brugger of Idaho Falls, Ida.; and nieces, Mrs. Samuel Renteva of Modesto, Calif., Mrs. William Miller of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Peter Dart of Boulder, Colo.
Miss Brugger was a member of Federated Church of Columbus, having joined the Presbyterian Church on Dec. 30, 1900, and later the Congregational Church, continuing as a member through the federation of the denominations.
She was a member of the Nebraska Historical Society and the Platte County Pioneer Association. Because of her interest in the history of this area, she made contributions of family possessions of historical value to the Nebraska Historical Society in Lincoln and the Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneers in Grand Island.

Mr. Boettcher, who had been living at Genoa, was a former mechanic for Rogers Motor Company.
He was born Feb. 18, 1902 in Platte County to Albert J. and Lena Hoge Boettcher, and attended Platte County schools. He spent his lifetime in this community.
His wife, the former Marie Helen Barnes, died in 1965.
Surviving are three children by a previous marriage, Mrs. E.W. Walsh of El Paso, Tex., Charles E. of Ada, Okla., William K. of Fort Collins, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Olga and Alma of Columbus.

KNUDSON--James Knudson dies in Lincoln Hospital; funeral rites Friday
James K. Knudson, 53, of 1763 38th Avenue, died Tuesday at Lincoln General Hospital.
Funeral rites will be conducted by Rev. J. Graydon Wilson at 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, and burial will be Oakdale.
His body will lie in state as Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel after 1:30 p.m. Thursday and at church from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday.
An employe of Sears Roebuck and company, Mr. Knudson handled deliveries and worked in the shipping and receiving department.
The son of Henry and Agda Nelson Knudson, he was born Dec. 13, 1917 at Newman Grove where he attended school and lived until moving to Columbus. During World War II he served in the Army from 1941 to 1945, as a private first class in the 320th Infantry. He was a member of the veterans of foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife, the former Beth Carmichael, whom he married Sept 25, 1949 at Newman Grove; his mother of Newman Grove, three brothers, Leland of Omaha, Leslie of of Newman Grove, and Donald of Visalia, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Avis Thumborg of Wheatridge, Colo., Mrs. Jackie Pullman of Wausaw, Ind.; two nieces and three nephews. His father preceded him in death.

He was a farmer and worked on the Loup Power Canal project. He retired at age 65.
Mr. Bruns was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, the former Bertha Kamm, whom he married at Enid, Okla. in 1908; two daughters, Mrs. Ed (Lorene) Allison and Mrs. Clarence (Marie) Muhle; three sons, Clarence, Andy and Delayne, all of Columbus.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Edna Mary; son, Marvin, in 1960; and sister, Mrs. George Weber.

BROCK--J. Julius Brock dies in Lincoln; services Saturday
J. Julius Brock, 75, of 972 30th Avenue, died Thursday at Veterans Hospital in Lincoln. He had been ill the past six months.
Last rites will be conducted at 10 a.m Saturday at McKown Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. John McGee officiating, and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. The body now lies in state at the funeral home.
The son of John H. and Emma Smith Brock, he was born here March 2, 1896, and attended elementary and high school in Columbus.
He was married to Hilda Gatzemeyer April 14, 1920, in Columbus and they resided here until 1940 when they moved to Compton, Calif. They returnd to Columbus in 1960 in retirement.
Mr. Brock, a carpenter, was a veteran of World War I. He served from June, 1917, to June, 1919, with Company A of the 109th Supply Train, and saw duty in France.
He was a member of Hartman Post 84, American Legion, member and past president of the Eagles Lodge, and former member of the Masons, Elks, and Izaak Walton League.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to the youth activities program of Hartman Post.
Mr. Brock is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Lee (Bernice) Hegi of Columbus, Mrs. Eugenia Crawford of Albuquerque, N.M., Mrs. E.B. (Lois) Stephens of Sebastopol, Calif., and Mrs. Kenneth (Betty) Bannister of Ingelwood, Calif.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Other survivors are one brother, George Brock of Lincoln; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Sedman of Torrington, Wyo., and Mrs. Margaret Perkins of Orange Cove, Calif.; and stepmother, Mrs. Lena Brock, Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and a sister, Mrs. Ida Potter.

He was affiliated with Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Born March 21, 1899 in Steele (Essen) Germany, she arrived in the U.S. Jan. 1, 1923, and lived in Columbus. Her marriage to Peter Brehm took place June 11, 1923, at St. Bonaventure.
A housewife she was a member of St. Ann's Society.
Survivors include her widower; children, Mrs. Tony (Charlotte) Zerr and Robert J.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Walter (Hedwig) Vetterick of Germany and Mrs. William (Mietzi) Schmidt of Winter, Wis.
Preceding her in death were a son, Reinhold Peter; grandson, Mark Paul; parents; brothers Karl and Joseph Kirsch; sisters, Mrs. Emma Schneider and Bertha Kirsch.

BREHM--Brehm Rites - Funeral services for Mrs. Peter (Clara) Brehm, 72, who died Tuesday, were held Friday at St. Bonaventure Church with Fr. Regis Watts officiating. Burial was in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Gutzmer, Leonard J. Wemhoff, Paul Gutzmer, Carroll C. Wemhoff, Felix Fix Jr. and Charles Haney. McKown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

KRUEGER--Erwin Krueger rites Saturday
Funeral services for Erwin A. Krueger, 55, of Rt. 2, Columbus, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
The Rev. B. F. Meschke will officiate, with burial in Columbus Cemetery. The body now lies in state at McKown Funeral home; the casket will not be opened at the church.
Mr. Krueger died unexpectedly Tuesday evening at his home southwest of Duncan.
The son of Fred and Emma Foster [sic] Krueger, he was born June 26, 1916 in Polk County on the Island, and attended School District 11 in Polk County.
On Aug. 6, 1938, he was married to Gertrude Egger at Burwell. They lived at Gresham until 1946, when they moved to the present farm.
Mr. Krueger, a Lutheran, is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Robert E. (Mary) Krueger, Columbus; a grandson Robert Erwin Krueger Jr., Columbus; one brother, Walter Krueger of Columbus; two sisters, Miss Della Krueger of Columbus and Mrs. Wallace (Amanda) Bredehoft of Osceola; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son Robert E. Krueger, who died Aug. 21, 1971; parents and a brother, Harold.
The family suggests that memorials may be directed to the church, or to the choice of the donor.

BUTLER--Mrs. Butler's rites will be Wednesday
Mrs. Olga Butler, 80, of 2423 18th Street, died Monday afternoon in Behlen Memorial Hospital after a week's illness.
Services will be conducted by Rev. Carl Weisser at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel and at St. Paul Cemetery, Leigh. Her body will lie in state after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A registered nurse, Mrs. Butler lived in Iowa and Chicago before moving here six years ago.
Her early life was spent at Leigh, where she was born March 4, 1891 to Henry and Anna Tabke. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Leigh, and attended school in that community. She took nurse's training in Chicago.
Surviving are her sister, Mrs. Elia Olson of Columbus, nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter in childhood.

KLUG--Mrs. Lena Klug's funeral Thursday
Funeral service for Mrs. Lena Klug, 88, who died at Columbus Manor Tuesday morning, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church with burial in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. H.M. Rathkamp will officiate. Now lying in state at Gass-Haney chapel, her body will be taken to the church to lie in state from 9:30 a.m. 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
A lifetime resident of this area, Mrs. Klug was born Aug. 29, 1883 in Platte County and attended District 10 School. Her parents were the late Franz and Katherine Luchsinger.
Baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Shell Creek, she was married there to John Klug on March 5, 1902. They farmed near Richland until moving to Columbus in 1926 to make their home at 2508 20th Street. Mr. Klug died Sept 4, 1945.
A charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church Mrs. Klug was affiliated with Ladies Aid and Kensington Circle, as well as Friendly Neighbors and Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary.
Surviving are four children, Mrs. Helen Engel of Columbus, Harold Klug of Richland, Mrs. Richard (Vera) McKenzie of San Gabriel, Calif., Mrs. John (Genevieve) Mason of Torrance, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Katherine Schmid of Columbus; nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son; three brothers, Henry, Frank and Peter Luchsinger; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Welch and Mrs. Susan Heitz.
Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Memorial fund or the donor's choice.

KORGER--Frank Korger dies in Omaha hospital; funeral Wednesday
Frank Korger, 71, a retired Union Pacific Railroadman, died Sunday evening in St. Joseph Hospital, Omaha, after a three-month illness.
Funeral rites will be conducted by Rev. Regis Watts at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Scripture service is set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Chapel where the body will lie in state after 3 p.m, that day.
Mr. Korger, who lived at 2622 Ninth Street, had been employed by the Union Pacific for 35 years. He worked in Columbus and later in Grand Island.
He was born March 8, 1900 in Polk county to Mr. and Mrs. Constantine Korger. He married Helen Kirkman [sic] in 1928 and she died in 1936.
Surviving are his second wife, the former Helen Mae Eaheart, whom he married at St. Bonaventure Church; two sons, Francis of Billings, Mont., and Donald of Columbus; seven grandchildren.
He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Henry (Tena) Beringer of Bellwood, Mrs. John (Ann) Strach of Boliver, Mo.; four brothers, John of New York, Rudy of Wisconsin, Gus of Milwaukee, and George of Shelby. A sister, Mrs. Frank (Mary) Gable and two brothers, Robert and Vincent, preceded him in death.
