KRUSE--Funeral services set Saturday for Mrs. Wesley Kruse
    Last rites for Mrs. Wesley (Elinore Verena) Kruse, 42, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Lutheran church.
    Pastor B.W. Berggren will officiate, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park. The body is to lie in state at McKown Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Friday until noon Saturday, then at the church from 1 p.m. to the time of service.
    Mrs. Kruse died Monday morning at her home, 2202 20th street. She had been ill nearly three years.
    The daughter of Edward and Betha Ingold Trofholz, she was born here Sept. 18, 1925, and attended Columbus schools. She was married to Wesley E. Kruse July 19, 1946, at United Lutheran church and they resided in Columbus and Platte county.
    Mrs. Kruse was a member of the Bluejackets Navy Mothers Club, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxillary.
    She was affiliated with Good Shepherd Lutheran church and the United Church Women.
    Surviving are her husband; four children, Michael in the U.S. Navy, and Dennis, Steven and Susan, at home; parents Mr. and Mrs. Edward Trofholz Sr.; brothers Lawrence and Edward Jr. of Columbus, Robert of Bellwood, Richard of Blair and Vernon of York; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    Mrs. Kruse was preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine Doris, who died in infancy.
    The family suggests that memorials may be directed to the Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital Research Center.

BREWER--Mrs. C. O. Brewer dies here Sunday; funeral Wednesday
    Mrs. C. O. (Nellie) Brewer, 75, of 3611 13th street died Sunday afternoon in St. Mary hospital after a week's illness. She had been a resident of Columbus since childhood.
    Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gass Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Harold B. Taylor officiating, and burial will be in Columbus cemetery. The body will lie in state at the chapel after 1 p.m. Tuesday.
    Daughter of the late George and Olive Fuller Michener, she was born Dec. 1, 1892 near Shelby, and received her education in the Columbus schools.
    On July 11, 1912 she was married to Albert Ernst, who preceded her in death Oct. 14, 1939.
    Her marriage to C. O. Brewer took place March 6, 1946. He died April 30, 1966.
    Mrs. Brewer was a past noble grand of Vashti Rebekah lodge, a member of the Woman's Benefit Association and Federated church. Memorials may be directed to the church.
    Surviving are three sons, Paul Ernst of Columbus, Jack Ernst of Omaha and Carl Ernst of Berkeley, Mo.; one daughter, Mrs. Elwin (Geraldine) Saalfeld and Geyser, Mont.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, William Michener of Columbus; two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Fanny) Hickey of Seal Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Ed (Linnie) Lemmerman of Long Beach, Calif.
    She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald; sister, Elsie, and two brothers, Ed and Glen.

BROCK--Mrs. Larry Brock dies unexpectedly
    Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Barrett received word Tuesday of the unexpected death of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Larry Brock, 59, in Arlington, Va.
    Mrs. Brock's husband formerly served as a U.S. Congressman from Nebraska. Other survivors include four married daughters and her mother, Mrs. F.L. Utemark of Wakefield, Neb.
    Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Salem Lutheran church, Wakefield.

KAUFMANN--Mrs. W. Kaufmann dies in California
    Mrs. William J. (Anna Sturgeon) Kaufmann, 82, formerly of Columbus, died today in Concord, Calif.
    Funeral services will be held at the Quinn Sierra chapel in Colfax, Calif., at 2 p.m. Monday.
    Mrs. Kaufmann was born April 17, 1885 near Rising City, the daughter of John L. and Maggie Aden Sturgeon.
    She was married to William J. Kaufmann Aug. 16, 1905 at Columbus where they were in the lumber business until 1934.
    After the lumber interests were sold to the Mead Lumber company, Mr. and Mrs. Kaufmann bought a fruit ranch and resort in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California.
    Following her husband's death, Mrs. Kaufmann made her home with her only daughter, Mrs. Leroy Popplewell, 1572 Farm Bureau Road, concord, Calif., who survives.
    Also surviving are her sister, Miss Lydia Sturgeon of California and a granddaughter, Ann Popplewell. A son died in infancy.
    While living in Columbus, the Kaufmanns were members of Immanuel Lutheran church, Elks lodge, Maennerchor society and the Country club.
    Mrs. Kaufmann was active in many social and civic affairs, and for many years made bandages for St. Mary's hospital.

BERSEE--Mrs L. A. Bersee dies; funeral rites Wednesday afternoon
    Mrs. L. A. (Jeanette) Bersee, 74, died Sunday at Morys Haven after a lingering illness.
    Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. H.M. Rathkamp at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Trinity Lutheran church. Burial will be in Columbus cemetery.
    The body is to lie in state at Gass Funeral chapel from 1 p.m. Tuesday until noon Wednesday, then at church from 1 to 2 p.m.
    Mrs. Bersee was born July 3, 1893 in Fremont and was educated in the Fremont schools.
    She was marreid [sic] to Dr. L.A. Bersee Oct. 10, 1910 in Council Bluffs. The lived in Omaha, Chappell and North Platte before coming to Columbus.
    Mrs. Bersee held various offices in the Rebekah lodge and Shelton Chapter 286, Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of Trinity Lutheran church, Ladies Aid and circles.
    Her husband died in 1959; a son, Dr. Cortland Bersee, in 1952. Also preceding her in death were her parents and one brother.
    Surviving are four grandchildren, Mrs. Gary (Linda) Currie of Pocahontas, Ia.; Mrs. Mary Webb of Schaller, Ia.; Charles and Cortland Bersee of Hoskins.

KRUSE--Harm E. Kruse, St. Louis, dies; funeral Friday
    Harm E. Kruse, 77, of St. Louis, Mo., formerly of Columbus, died Tuesday at St. Luke hospital in St. Louis. He had been in failing health the past six months. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran church, with Pastor B.W. Berggren officiating, and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park cemetery.
    The body is to lie in state from 8 p.m. today to noon Friday at McKown Funeral Home, then at the church from 1:30 p.m. to the time of service.
    He was born Aug. 30, 1890, in Germany, the son of Ekke and Hilka Kruse, and came to the United States as a boy to reside in Gothenburg.
    Mr. Kruse was married to Anna Plank, Jan. 26, 1916, at Gothenburg. She preceded him in death, as did one son, Clifford, three daughters in infancy, his parents, two brothers and one sister.
    On July 13, 1963, Mr. Kruse was married to Mildred Krebs in St. Louis.
    Mr. Kruse came to Columbus from Gothenburg in 1936, and left here five years ago to reside in St. Louis, where he was a member of St. Mark Lutheran church. While in Columbus, he was affiliated with Good Shepherd Lutheran church.
    He was a retired businessman.
    He is survived by his wife; two sons, Stanley and Wesley Kruse of Columbus; four daughters, Mrs. Richard (Evelyn) Uphoff of Rising City, Mrs. Lester (Miriam) Shunk of Columbus, Mrs. Delmar (Wanda) Dallege of David City, and Mrs. William (Jean) Hover of St. Louis; 23 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Merle (Peggy) Wolfe of St. Louis; and a brother, John of Gothenburg.

KONWINSKI--Stanley Konwinski, dies here today, rites Wednesday
    Stanley Konwinski, 75, of 3204 19th street, died this morning at St. Mary hospital.
    Last rites will take place at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bonaventure church with Fr. Regis Watts officiating and burial will be in St. Bonaventure cemetery. The body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home, with rosary to be prayed there at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
    He was born Oct. 8, 1892, at Tarnov, the son of Joseph and Rose Herman Konwinski. He was married to Victoria Czarnek Feb. 14, 1917, at Albion, and they made their home in the Columbus community.
    Mr. Konwinski, a retired farmer, was a member of St. Bonaventure parish.
    Survivors include three sons, Clements Konwinski of Chicago, Bernard and Al of Omaha; four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Lorraine) Lofgren of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Donald (Danielle) Seberger of Omaha, Mrs. Steve (Evelyn) Czapneski of Silver Creek, and Mrs. Joe (Virginia) Laudenklos of Columbus; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
    Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Mrs. Anna Kurek, Henry, Joe and John Konwinski, Silver Creek; Mrs. Mary Gunska, Lansing, Ill.; Frank Konwinski, Clarks; Tom and Miss Stella Konwinski, Columbus.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, on Jan. 10, 1964; parents, four brothers and sisters.

KNEIFEL--Rites for Infant - Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in St. Bonaventure cemetery for John Charles Kneifel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl R. Kneifel, who died at birth that day. The Rev. Myron Landot officiated. Also surviving are one brother and three sisters, Joe of the U.S. Navy, Jeannette, Jacqueline and Joyce; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Carl M. Kneifel of Columbus and Mrs. Myrtle Booth of Schuyler. McKown funeral Home was in charge of arrangments.

    Funeral services for Adolph Bernt, 86, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Methodist church.
    The Rev. Max McCamley will officiate, with burial in Roselawn Memorial cemetery. The body lies in state at Gass Funeral Home until noon Wednesday, then from 1 to 2 p.m at the church.
    Mr. Bernt, who resided at 3109 18th street, died Sunday afternoon at Behlen Memorial hospital.
    He was born Oct. 24, 1881, in Polk county, the son of John and Katherine Kebsbach Bernt, and received his schooling in Polk county.
    Mr. Bernt was married to Dollie Jerdon Nov. 26, 1902, in David City. They farmed eight miles north of Shelby in Polk county, retiring and moving to Columbus in 1956.
    Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Chester (Edith) Wells, Mrs. P.W. (Velma) Elliott and Mrs. Art (Cleo) Mayberger; one granddaughter and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, William of Columbus and Julius of Shelby; and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Smith of Columbus and Mrs. Adolph (Rose) Grossnicklaus, Osceola.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, May 24, 1967; one son, Lloyd of Columbus; parents, and one sister, Mrs. Clint (Millie) Ballou of Boise, Ida.
    The family suggests that memorials may be directed to the Methodist church.

BERENDS--Funeral services Saturday afternoon for Tena Berends
    Funeral services for Mrs. Tena Berends, 87, Platte Center, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran church, 14 miles north of Columbus.
    Pastor George Schubarth will officiate, with burial in St. John's cemetery. A family prayer service will be held at her home at 1:30 p.m.
    The body will lie in state at Gass Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Friday until 11 a.m. Saturday, then at church from 1 to 2 p.m.
    Mrs. Berends, a longtime Platte county resident, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening at her rural home.
    Daughter of the late Folkert and Mareke Duis Rosendahl, she was born Feb. 8, 1881 at Golden, Ill. She received her education at Gothenburg, Neb., where she resided before her marriage to Theo R. Berends, April 19, 1902 at St. John's church.
    She since resided north of Columbus where she was a member of St. John's church and Ladies Aid. She was baptized in Illinois and confirmed at Gothenburg.
    Surviving are eight children, Martin, Walter and Mrs. Herman (Hilda) Behle of Columbus; Elmer and Emma of Platte Center; Lewis of Mount Vernon, Ia.; Mrs. Faldean (Agnes) Lagler of Grant, Neb.; Mrs. Ray (Norma) Lavender of Riverside, Calif.; 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
    Her husband died Dec. 26, 1962. Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Louise) Lilienthal of Columbus; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, two brothers; three half-brothers and two half-sisters.
    Mr. and Mrs. Allen Becher will be in charge of memorials at the church.

KANT--Funeral services for Henry Kant here Thursday
    Last rites for Henry Kant, 77, who died Monday at Soldiers and Sailors Home in Grand Island. will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Gass Funeral Home.
    Officiating will be the Rev. Otto Schlegelmulch, and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial cemetery. The body is to lie in state after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
    He was born April 25, 1890, in Albany, Wis., the son of Frederick and Lena Witchelt Kant and spent most of his life in Platte county. He was chiefly engaged in farm work. Mr. Kant had resided in Grand Island the past eight years.
    Mr. Kant served in the Army from Sept. 21, 1917, to Jan. 23, 1918, receiving a medical discharge. He was with the 9th Division at Camp Funston, Kan.
    He was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Albany, Wis. and confirmed at Christ Lutheran church.
    Three brothers survive, Albert of Berwyn, William of Elm Creek and Harry of Lexington, and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

BORO--Mrs. Mary Boro dies here today, funeral Thursday
    Mrs. Mary Anna Boro, 74, died this morning at her home, 2603 7th street. She had been in poor health the last few years.
    Fr. Armand Lubanski will officiate at funeral services at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony church, and burial will be in St. Bonaventure cemetery. The body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
    Born in York county May 10, 1893, she was the daughter of Anthony and Mary Shotkoski Brezenski. She was educated at Fullerton.
    She was married to Joseph Boro on Sept. 11, 1911, at Krakow, and they farmed south of Columbus. They moved to Columbus in 1914.
    Mrs. Boro's hobbies were flowers and crocheting. She was a member of St. Anthony parish.
    Survivors include children, Mrs. Thomas (Belle) Swalek, Mrs. Edward V. (Barbara) Kudron and Aloysius J. (Pete) Boro, Columbus; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Pearl Zakrewski of Genoa, Mrs. Frank Korus and Mrs. Martha Mady, Omaha; and brother, Jake Brezenski of Columbus.
    She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son and grandson; parents, two sisters and five brothers.

BALDWIN--Thursday services for Steve Baldwin at Immanuel church
    Funeral services for Steven Darrel Baldwin, 18, of 3911 12th street, will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran church with Pastor B.F. Meschke officiating.
    Burial will be in Columbus cemetery. The body lies in state at Gass Funeral Home until the hour of the service.
    Steven died Monday night at Behlen Memorial hospital after a lingering illness.
    The son of Darrel L. and Eleanor Wurdeman Baldwin, he was born in Columbus Dec. 10, 1949 and attended local schools. He would have been a senior at Columbus High this year.
    He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church, where he was baptized and confirmed. His hobbies were art and gardening.
    Surviving are his parents; brothers and sisters, John of Omaha, Anne, Kenneth, Connie, James and Betty, all at home; grandmothers, Mrs. Alma Wurdeman of Columbus and Mrs. Pearl Baldwin of Kearney.
    His grandfathers, Louis G. Wurdeman and John Baldwin preceded him in death.

BRUGGEMAN--Report death of Fred Bruggeman
    Word has been received of the recent death of Fred Bruggeman, a resident of Hot Springs, Ark., for the past 20 years.
    He was a retired cattle buyer for Armour & Company.
    Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Bruggeman, of Hot Springs, and daughter, Mrs. Margery Davis of Phoenix, Ariz.

BOETTCHER--Mrs. A.C. Boettcher dies here Tuesday, last rites Friday
    Mrs. Arthur C. (Marguerite) Boettcher, 62, of 1404 9th street, died Tuesday at St. Mary hospital after a lingering illness.
    Final rites will be conducted by the Rev. Russell Mertz at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Luke United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery.
    The body is to lie in state from 1 p.m. Thursday until noon Friday at Gass Funeral Home, then at the chruch from 1 o'clock to the time of service. There will be a short family prayer service Friday morning at the funeral home.
    She was born Oct. 7, 1905, in Columbus, the daughter of Fred and Albertina Weisenfluh Geiser, and was a lifetime resident of this community. She attended Columbus public schools and was graduated from Columbus High school.
    On Dec. 17, 1938, she was married to Arthur C. Boettcher in Columbus and they made their home here.
    Mrs. Boettcher studied music and was a music teacher for a number of years, in addition to serving as organist at Trinity Lutheran for 10 years.
    She was a member of St. Luke United Church of Christ, and the famiy suggests that memorials be directed to that source.
    Surviving are her husband; three brothers, Edward, Fred and Werner Geiser, all of Columbus; and six sisters, Mrs. John (Clara) Glur, Mrs. Leo (Lillian) Paprocki, a twin, Mrs. Walter (Mabel) Saalfeld, and Mrs. Harry (Albertina) Goc, all of Columbus, Mrs. Dort (Alma) Gillam of Prineville, Ore., and Mrs. Elinor Richardson of Spokane, Wash.
    Mrs. Boettcher was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mrs. Louisa Sherrer of The Dalles, Ore.; and two brothers, Albert Geiser of Portland, Ore., and John of Columbus.

KINCAID--Mrs. Anna Kincaid dies in hospital; funeral Monday
    Mrs. Anna J. Kincaid, 78, Columbus, died this morning at Behlen Memorial hospital.
    Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Highland Park Evangelical Free church with Rev. Earl T. Gunsolley of Meriden, Ia., officiating. Graveside service and burial will be in the Bristow, Neb., cemetery at 3 p.m.
    The body will lie in state at Gass Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Sunday and at church from 2 a.m. [sic] Monday until time of the service.
    Mrs. Kincaid was born in Dixon county, Nebraska, Oct. 7, 1889 and moved with her family to Boyd county in 1893. Her parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Ole Person.
    She was married to Fred Kincaid Apr. 15, 1914 at Bristow. They moved to Columbus 14 years ago and she attended the Highland Park Evangelical Free church. The family suggests that memorials be directed to the Highland Park church.
    Surviving are two sons, Milo of Columbus and Harold of Denver; one daughter, Mrs. Basil (Florence) Anderson of Denver; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her husband and one brother preceded her in death.

BORN--John O. Born funeral Monday at St. Luke's
    Funeral services for John O. (Hans) Born, 69, of 3407 13th street, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Luke's United Church of Christ with Pastor Russell Mertz officiating. Burial will be in Columbus cemetery.
    The body will lie in state at Gass Funeral Home from 2 p.m. Sunday until noon Monday, then at church from 1 to 2 p.m. Family prayer service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Gass chapel.
    Mr. Born, a custodian in the public school system, died Thursday night in Behlen Memorial hospital. He had farmed in Platte couty near Duncan until moving to Columbus in 1952.
    Son of the late John Sr. and Mary Steiner Born, he was born in Platte county July 27, 1898 and attended Platte county schools.
    He married Dorothy Kurth on Sept. 4, 1935 in Council Bluffs, Ia., and she survives him.
    Also surviving are two brothers, Charles of Columbus and Sam of Geneva; four sisters, Mrs. Sam (Ida) Geiser of Monroe, Mrs. Carl (Lillie) Harris of Gallatin, Mo., Mrs. Roland (Martha) Eggli and Mrs. Marvin (Ella) Clauff, both of Fullerton.
    He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dewey and Fred, and a sister, Rose, all of Columbus.
    Memorials may be directed to St. Luke's church, of which he was a member.

BENDA--Josephine Benda funeral Saturday
    Mrs. Josephine Benda, 83, Shelby, died Wednesday in Good Samaritan Center, Osceola. She had been in failing health the last five years.
    Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew Catholic church, Polk county, with Rev. Edward A. O'Leary officiating.
    Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery near Shelby. Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Home where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Friday.
    Mrs. Benda was born Sept. 4, 1884 in Austria, the daughter of John and Anna Zohner Philip.
    She was married to Guastav Benda on Oct. 10, 1910 at St. Andrew church near Osceola and they lived on a Polk county farm. Mr. Benda died Sept. 15, 1941.
    Surviving are four sons, Carl of Bellwood; Ray of Downey, Calif.; Albert and Alouis of Shelby; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her sisters preceded her in death.

KARGES--Mrs. Joseph Karges died on Saturday, services Tuesday
    Mrs. Joseph (Clara) Karges, 69, of 660 13th avenue, died Saturday at St. Mary hospital. She had been in ill health several years.
    Fr. Armand Lubanski will officiate at funeral services, 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure cemetery. The body now lies in state at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. today.
    The daughter of Andrew and Marie Meyer, she was born Aug. 13, 1898 in Columbus and reared in the Silver Creek community.
    She was married to Joseph Karges Feb. 4, 1920 at St Lawrence church, Silver Creek. They farmed in Polk county until moving to Columbus in 1963.
    Mrs. Karges was a member of St. Anthony church.
    Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Eileen) Gabriel of Osceola, Mrs. Robert (Alnetta) Topinka of Columbus, and Mrs. Joseph (Doris) Jaworski of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. William Hansen of Silver Creek, Mrs. Melvin Burruss of Columbus, and Mrs. Frank Garig of LaMesa, Tex.; brothers, John Meyer of Battleground, Wash., and Fred of Silver Creek.
    She was preceded in death by her parents.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Sophie Kosinski, 87, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony church.

    Mrs. Kosinski died Wednesday at her home, 1509 8th street, after being in poor health several years.
    She was born Feb. 10, 1881, in Pilsno, Poland, the daughter of Stanley and Mary Dudek. She was married to Frank Drawl at Krakow in 1900. Mr. Drawl died in 1903. She was also preceded in death by two children from this marriage, Leo in February, and a girl in infancy.
    On May 9, 1906, she was married to Paul Kosinski at St. Bonaventure church. Mr. Kosinski died in 1943. She was also preceded by a son in infancy; son Charles Kosinski; daughter, Mrs. Frances Kleinsasser; grandson, Mike Kosinski, in February 1968; parents, two brothers and two sisters.
    Mrs. Kosinski, a member of St. Anthony parish, had been a resident of Columbus the past 33 years.
    She is survived by three sons, John P. Kosinski of Los Angeles, Calif., Mike V. and Walter L. of Columbus; three daughters, Mrs. Ray J. (Agnes) Kuta and Mrs. Gerald W. (Julie) Soulliere of Columbus, and Mrs. Stanley (Clara) Zoucha of Cedar Rapids; 23 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Agnes Bosak of Barnesville, Minn.

    Mrs. Ray D. (Anna) Braithwait, of 2121 Seventh street, died Tuesday in Clarkson hospital, Omaha, after a month's illness. She was 76.
    Funeral services will be at St. Anthony Catholic church at 9:30 a.m. Friday with Rev. Maynard Billig officiating. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure cemetery. Rosary is scheduled for 8 p.m. Thursday at McKown Funeral Home where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. that day.
    Daughter of the late Edward and Frederica Reider Seiler, she was born Jan. 25, 1892 at Humphrey and attended St. Bernard school.
    She was married to Ray Braithwait at Loup City in May, 1923. They since resided in Columbus.
    She was a past member of the American Legion Auxilliary.
    Surviving are her husband; brothers, Edward Seiler of Monroe and Joseph Seiler of Madison; sister, Margaret Haunshell of Arcadia, Calif. One sister, Mamie Hessle preceded her in death.

BEIERLE--Funeral services for Vern Beierle planned Friday
    Funeral services for Vern Beierle, 65, of 126 E. Parkway, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Bonaventure church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure cemetery.
    The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Thursday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
    He was born June 12, 1902, at David City, the son of Mike and Mrs. Carrie Bock Beierle, and attended school in David City and Columbus.
    Mr. Beierle was married to Agnes Happ April 24, 1937, at St. Bonaventure church, and they had since resided here. He was a building contractor.
    A Catholic, Mr. Beierle was a member of the Holy Name Society.
    Survivors include his wife; mother, Mrs. Carrie Drawbridge of North Loup, daughter, Mrs. Bert (Dorothy) Jurgens of Cedar Bluffs; son, Robert, of Houston, Tex.; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
    Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Alfred Beierle of Richland, Mrs. William (Clara) Sprunk and Jess Beierle of Columbus, Clarence of Dix, Chester of Omaha, Floyd of Long Beach, Callif. [sic], and Howard of Riverside, Calif.

KOSCH--Services today for Shelby boy
    SHELBY - Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic church for Kevin Kosch, 11, who was fatally injured in a tractor accident Saturday.
    The mishap took place on a farm of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kosch, situated one mile north and two miles east of Shelby.
    Kevin and his brother, Greg, 15, were on the tractor when it overturned. Greg was able to jump free but Kevin was pinned beneath the vehicle.
    The Kosches own and operate a beauty school in Columbus.

    A former Columbus resident, Charles W. Billesbach, 77, 5809 North 30th street Omaha, died Thursday. Funeral services will be at 8 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament church, Omaha, and interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Family cemetery, Heartwell.
    Rosary will be prayed at 8:30 p.m. today at Roeder Mortuary, 50th and Ames Ave., Omaha.

    She was born Dec. 23, 1888 at Silver Creek, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Savage. In 1907 she married John F. Briggs at Tarnov and they lived there and at Madison before moving to Columbus. Mrs. Briggs was a member of St. Bonaventure chruch and St. Ann's Society.
    Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. H.D. (Esther) Mitchell, Pacific Grove, Calif., and Mrs. Douglas (Marian) McLean, Oakland Calif.; three sons, Leonard of Fremont and Milton and Louis, Columbus; two brothers, Edward Savage, Hayward, Calif., and Stanley Savage, Berkley Calif; two sisters, Mrs. Lou (Josie) Vanderheiden, Grand Island and Mrs. Ann Hooven, New York, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren and _0 great-grandchildren.

BALL--Hazel Ball dies today, funeral services Saturday
    Hazel E. Ball, 79, died today at Morys Haven after being ill several months.
    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at McKown Funeral Home with Dr. Lowell Jones officiating. Burial will be in Douglas Park Cemetery, Douglas, Wyo. The body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
    She was born May 31, 1889 at Loretto, the daughter of Lewis and Sophia Hallstead. She attended Petersburg High school and was a graduae of Doane College, Crete, where she majored in piano.
    On May 1, 1912 she married Leroy Ball at Omaha and they lived in Albion until 1943. They managed a hotel in Scottsbluff for a year then moved to Douglas, Wyo., where they owned and managed the LaBonte Hotel. In 1951 she moved to Billings, Mont., and in 1967 came to Columbus. She was a member of the Congregational church.
    Surviving are two sons, Delaine Ball, Pico Riversa, Calif., and Deforest Ball, Columbus; a daughter, Madeline Berklund, North Bend, Ore.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harry Hallstead, Grand Island, Lee Hallstead, Lincoln and Gerald Hallstead, Crete.
    She was preceed in death by her husband in November, 1949 and her parents.

KAUFMANN--Kaufman rites to be Tuesday
    Last rites for Herman Kaufmann, 74, of 2917 15th street, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gass Funeral Home. The Rev. A. H. Guettler will officiate and burial will be in Columbus cemetery with military rites.
    The body now lies in state at the funeral home. Mr. Kaufmann died Saturday morning at Behlen Memorial hospital.
    The son of John E. and Augusta Gradowski Kaufmann, he was born March 4, 1894, at Hampton and was a graduate of Columbus high school.
    He was married to Louise C. Moersen at Council Bluffs, and they made their home in Columbus.
    Mr. Kaufmann was associated with his father and brothers in the lumber business here.
    A veteran of World War I, Mr. Kaufmann was a 50-year member of the American Legion. He was a former member of the Columbus Volunteer (Fire) Department.
    He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church.
    Surviving are his wife; daughter, Louise, Columbus; son Dr. John E. Kaufmann, David City; three grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Henry (Sophie) Gass, Mrs. Harry (Ida) Lohr and Mrs. Augusta Fontein, all of Columbus.
    He was preceded in death by an infant son; one sister, Louise (Lizzie) Kaufmann; and two brothers, J. Theodore, and William of Dutch Flats, Calif.

BUSS--Mrs. Anna Buss dies here, rites to be Saturday
    Mrs. Anna Buss, Rt. 3, Columbus, died Wednesday night at St. Mary hospital.
    Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:15 p.m. at Gass Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. at Shell Creek Baptist church. The Rev. Elwyn Zimmerman will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery. The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
    A lifetime resident of this vicinity, she was born Jan. 24, 1890, in Platte county, daughter of William and S. Magdalene Sander Albers. She attended District 35 school.
    She was married to Walter Krause in November, 1913, at her parents' home in Columbus. Mr. Krause died Jan. 3, 1915. In March, 1921, she was married to Bernard Buss in the parsonage of Shell Creek Baptist church. His death occurred Nov. 12, 1940.
    Mrs. Buss was a member of Shell Creek Baptist church. The family suggests that memorials be made to the missions.
    Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Lydia) Gehring of Monroe and Doris Buss of Rt. 3, Columbus; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. William (Hulda) Menke and Mrs. Gus (Ida) Behlen, Columbus.

BRIAN--Bert Brian dies, rites on Saturday
    Herbert Aiden Brian, 51, died Wednesday evening at Behlen Memorial hospital after an illness of many years.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Episcopal church, with the Rev. E. William Pounds of Grace church and the Rev. Norman Pavey of Federated church officiating. Memorials may be directed to either church.
    Burial will be in Columbus cemetery. The body is to lie in state at Gass Funeral Home from 5 p.m. today to 10 a.m. Saturday.
    Herbert Aiden Brian was born in Columbus Feb. 9, 1917, the son of Vivian and Elizabeth Jones Brian. He attended Columbus schools, being graduated from Columbus high school.
    He was graduated from the University of Nebraska, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. He served in the R.O.T.C. from September, 1934 to June, 1938, and was commissioned as a lieutenant colonel.
    "Bert" also attended law school for two years, but was unable to complete his studies because of his illness.
    He then spent two years at the air base at Copus Christi, Tex., doing secretarial work. Upon returning to Columbus, he made his home with his aunt, Mrs. W.E. Roberts.
    He was a member of Grace Episcopal church, and of Lebanon Lodge No. 323, A.F. & A.M.
    Mr. Brian was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Maxine.

    Final rites will be held in Denver and Seattle for Robert W. Beck, 72, managing partner and chief engineer of R.W. Beck & Associates, a national firm of analytical and consulting engineers.
    A memorial service is scheduled at Fairmount mortuary in Denver at 11 a.m. Wednesday, and the funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James cathedral in Seattle, with burial in Holyrood cemetery.
    Mr. Beck, who achieved national recognition as an engineering adviser to utility management, died Monday in Denver after a brief illness.
    He was founder of R.W. Beck & Associates, which maintains major offices in Seattle, Denver and Columbus, and other branches in Phoenix, Ariz., Orlando, Fla., and Boston.
    The firm, dating from 1954, deals largely with public utility district, municipalities, and other subdivisions of states; public authorities and REA financed cooperatives. The firm also has done work for the U.S. Navy, Air Force, Corps of Engineers, Atomic Energy Commission, Bureau of Reclamation and Bonneville Power Adminstration. The firm also has engaged in international engineering projects.
    Mr. Beck was one of five of the firm's partners appointed as special consultants to the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy of the U.S. Congress to review and report on all data, material and reports on the 800,000-kilowatt electric generating project built in conjunction with the Hansford New Production Reactor.
    He had more than 40 years of experience in general engineering and the design, operation and management of utilities, including 13 years in various capacties with Seattle City Light; two years as principal electric engineer with the Bonneville Power Administration; two years as general manager of Public Utility District No. 1 of Grays Harbor county, Washington; and more than 25 years directing consulting engineering firms rendering diversified utility engineering services.
    While on leave of absence from Seattle City Light, 1936-8, Mr. Beck began to engage in private consulting work for municipal electric systems and for the newly formed public utility districts in Nebraska.
    He evaluated the properties of the electrical utilities in Nebraska and ultimately, all of the private power companies agreed to sell their property to local public bodies at the fair market values determined by Mr. Beck.
    His firm still serves as consulting engineer in Nebraska, working directly for Consumers Public Power District, Nebraska Public Power System and the Loup District.
    Mr. Beck was one of the founders and original board members of both the American Public Power Association and the Northwest Public Power Association.
    He was a Fellow in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers; a member of the Nebraska Engineering Society, National Society of Professional Engineers, Society of American Military Engineers and Nebraska Reclamation Association.
    He has been listed in Who's Who in Engineering since 1941, Who's Who in the West and the World Who's Who in Science and Industry.
    Born in Chicago, he moved to Oregon as a boy. He attended Montana School of Mines, Oregon State College and later took extension courses from the Universitis [sic] of Wisconsin and California. During World War I, he served in France with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
    Mr. Beck is survived by his wife, Roberta Fisher Beck of Seattle; three sons, John, Donald and Robert Beck, all of Los Angeles; and three grandchildren.

    He was born April 27, 1943 at McAllister, Okla., the son of James L. and Paula Brown. Graduate of Schuyler High school, he married Joan Neater Nov. 16, 1963 in Columbus. They resided in Fremont four and one-half years and he was a telegrapher clerk for the Union Pacific railroad.
    He was a member of the Methodist church in Fremont and the Transportation Communications Employes union. He was a past member of the Fremont Elks lodge.
    Surviving are his wife; son, James W.; parents and brother, Joseph K. of Schuyler; grandmothers, Mrs. Jesse Tucker of Monmouth, N.J., and Mrs. W.E. Brown of El Reno, Okla.
    His grandfathers, W.E. Brown and Herman R. Tucker preceded him in death.

    Walter Henry Kiuntke, 75, of 1619 9th street, died Wednesday night at St. Mary hospital.

    Mr. Kiuntke farmed and later was a construction worker. He was married to Rose Schaecher Feb. 9, 1923, at St. John Lutheran church, Shell Creek.
    He was a member of St. Luke United Church of Christ, and the Men's Brotherhood. The family suggests that memorials be directed to St. Luke church.

    She was born Feb. 18, 1917 at Obert, Neb., where she received her education. The daughter of Severt and Emma Miller Munson, she was married to Elmer Koeppen Oct. 5, 1947 at Hartington, and they resided there until moving to Columbus in 1951.
    Mrs. Koeppen was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran church. Memorials may be directed to the church building fund.

KREUGER--Saturday funeral rites scheduled for Emma Krueger
    Saturday funeral services will be held for Mrs. Emma Krueger, 79, of Rt. 2, Columbus, who died Tuesday evening in the Osceola Hospital.
    Pastor A.H. Guettler will officiate at 1:30 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran church. Burial will be in Columbus cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Friday.
    Mrs. Krueger was born Nov. 4, 1883 at Silesia, Germany, daughter of the late Alois and Veronica Hale Forester.
    Coming to Nebraska at the age of 12, she resided southeast of Gresham until her marriage to Fred Krueger, March 7, 1906 at St. John Lutheran church on the island. Since then she resided southwest of Duncan in Polk county and was a member of St. John church. She was baptized and confirmed in Germany.
    Mrs. Krueger was a former member of the Island Community club.
    Her husband died in 1917 and she was also preceded in death by a son, Harold; brother, Alfred in Germany; and sister Anna of Gresham.
    Survivors include two daughters and two sons, Mrs. Walter (Amanda) Bredehoft of Osceola, Della, Walter and Erwin of Rt. 2, Columbus; three grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Cecil (Alfreda) McMillian of Omaha.

JAWORSKI--Charles Jaworski, former resident, buried here today
    Funeral services were held here today for Charles S. Jaworski, 87, who died Saturday in a Jennings, La., nursing home following lengthy illness. He was a former Columbus resident.
    The Rev. Armand Lubanski officiated at the 9:30 a.m. requiem Mass in St. Anthony Catholic church and at graveside rites in St. Bonaventure cemetery.
    Son of the late Tom ad Josephine Pieczonka Jaworski, he was born April 2, 1881 at Tarnov, Neb. He married Mary Jurek in 1906 in Columbus, and they resided here and in Lincoln until moving to Jennings 10 years ago.
    Mr. Jaworski was a former railroad employe, deputy sheriff and state penitentiary guard in Lincoln.
    He was affiliated with Knights of Columbus and Elks lodge.
    Surviving are his wife, of Jennings, La.; two daughters, Mrs. Charles R. (Helen) Houssiere Jr., of Jennings and Miss Leona Jaworski of Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif.; one son, Tom Jawston of Creston, Ia.; three grandchildren; one brother, Jake of Columbus.
    One of a family of 11 children, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Joe, Lonnie, Tom, Stephen and Emil, and sisters, Rose, Agnes and Mary.

    Funeral rites for Walter R. Berends, 61, of Route 1, Columbus, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran church, Missouri Synod, 14 miles north of Columbus.
    Pastor George Schubarth will officiate and burial will be in St. John's cemetery.
    The body will lie in state at Gass Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Wednesday and at church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday. A family prayer service will be held at the Berends home at 10 a.m.
    The Columbus farmer died Monday in Nebraska Methodist hospital, Omaha.
    He was born Dec. 8, 1906 in Platte county and resided north of Columbus all his life. His parents were the late T. R. and Tena Rosendahl Berends.
    He attended St. John's parochial school and Concordia Teachers college in Seward.
    Mr. Berends was baptized and confirmed at St. John's church by Rev. E. Holm, who also officiated at his marriage to Viola Becher on April 22, 1932.
    He served the church in various capacities, including 15 years as secretary of the congregation and lately as treasurer. He was past president of the Walther League.
    Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Genene) Sjuts of Madison, Carolyn, Bonnie, Betty and Lenore, at home; six grandchildren; brothers, Lewis of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Elmer of Platte Center and Martin of Columbus; sisters, Emma of Platte Center, Mrs. Faldean (Agnes) Lagler of Grant, Mrs. Herman (Hilda) Behle of Columbus and Mrs. H.R. (Norma) Lavender of Riverside, Calif.
    A son, Vernon, and sister, Mrs. Frank (Louise) Lilienthal of Columbus preceded him in death.

    The Rev. Norman L. Counse officiated and burial was in Circle Mound cemetery, Rising City. David City Memorial chapel was in charge of arrangement, and pall bearers were Ray Drummond, Ralph Gillett, Don Ellison, Leonard Davis, Joe Sloup and Theodore Junge.
    Mr. Knight died Thursday at Morys Haven in Columbus. He became ill July 11, and had been hospitalized in Omaha and David City.
    He was born Dec. 6, 1883, in Indiana, the son of William and Ida Mae Mills Knight. As a young man he was married in St. Louis, Mo., and to this union were born two sons and one daughter, present whereabouts unknown.
    On Dec 26, 1953, he was married to Viola Gillett Lash, and they resided in David City and Columbus until moving to Rising City about 1962.
    Mr. Knight followed various trades, including the railroad, defense plants, alfafa mills and had worked at the Columbus Sales Pavilion.
    Surviving are his wife, Viola, Columbus; six stepchildren: Eugene Lash of Quincy, Calif., Everett Lash and Mrs. Homer Hastings of Columbus, Mrs. Al Van Ampting of Sioux Falls, S.D., Mrs. Logan Kinnison of Rising City and Glenn Lash of Chico, Calif., 22 stepgrandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

BROCK--Larry Brock dies; funeral services Sunday
    Funeral services for Lawrence Brock, 62, former U.S. Congressman from the Nebraska Third District, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Salem Lutheran church at Wakefield. He was a native of Platte county.
    Mr. Brock, who died Wednesday in Zion, Ill., had been hospitalized several times following surgery for a brain tumor Jan. 30.
    The former Nebraska Democratic Party chairman served as U.S. representative one term, 1959-61. After his unsuccessful bid for re-election, he served as assistant administrator of the Farmers Home Administration until his last illness.
    Born on a farm between Leigh and Columbus, Aug. 16, 1906, he grew up in Leigh where his father operated a general store.
    After graduating from the University of Nebraska with a degree in pharmacy, he operated a drugstore in Madison for two years. Illness ccaused him to switch to farming and cattle feeding at Wakefield.
    Mr. Brock was a former president of the Nebraska and Cornbelt Livestock Feeders Associations and Northeast Nebraska Rural Public Power District.
    His wife, formerly Roenna Utemark of Wakefield, died last January. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Harold Tell of Chicago, Mrs. Charles Soderberg of Wakefield, Mrs. Richard Rosenbohm of Omaha and Mrs. Bill Gibson of Santa Ana, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; four sisters, Margaret and Mathilda of Omaha, Mrs. Ralph Barrett of Columbus and Mrs. W.W. Rynearson of Denver.

BARTHOLOMEW--Mrs. Bartholomew dies suddenly; funeral Monday
    Mrs. Lloyd Bartolomew Sr., of 3108 20th street, died unexpectedly about 6:20 p.m. Thursday in St. Mary hospital. She was 58.
    Funeral services are scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday at St. Bonaventure Catholic church with Rev. Regis Watts officiating, and burial will be in the Catholic cemetery.
    Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Sunday at McKown Funeral Home where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Sunday.
    Nee Margaret Mary Braun, daughter of John and Margaret Bach Braun, she was born May 7, 1910 in the St. Mary community near Humphrey. She attended St. Mary parochial school.
    On April 1, 1937 she was married to Lloyd Bartholomew at Shenandoah, Iowa and they resided in Columbus. She was employed by Dale Electronics.
    She was a member of St. Bonaventure parish and St. Anne's society.
    Surviving are her husband; daughter, Mrs. Jack (LaVerna) Dittmer of Clarks; two sons Lloyd Jr., and Robert of Columbus; seven grandsons; three sisters, Mrs. Ed (Jean) Chohon of Humphrey, Mrs. Chris (Ann) Dohmen of Grand Island and Mrs. Lyle (Tillie) Hadley of LaMesa, Calif.; three brothers, Cyril and Remy Braun of Columbus and Ted Braun of Rock Island, Ill.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary; and brother, Joe Braun, who was killed in Korea.

BORCHERS--Josephine Borchers funeral scheduled here Saturday
    Funeral services will be held here Saturday for Mrs. Josephine Borchers, 74, Pomona, Calif., widow of Rev. John Borchers, former pastor of Shell Creek Baptist church. She died Sunday in a Los Angeles hospital after an illness of three weeks.
    Pastor Elwin Zimmerman will officiated [sic] at 1:15 p.m. at Gass Funeral chapel and 2 p.m. at Shell Creek Baptist church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state Saturday at the funeral home.
    Born March 21, 1894 in Platte county, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Meta Kamm Krause. She attended District 72 school, Platte county, and was married to Rev. John Borchers on Feb. 17, 1915 at Shell Creek Baptist church.
    Besides the local church, he served congregations at Gatebo, Ila. [sic], Ellinwood, Kans., and Transfer, S.D. Since her husband's death in 1953, Mrs. Borchers resided in California. A lifetime Baptist, she had been active in church affairs.
    Surviving are one son, Kenneth; a granddaughter, Jolene Borchers; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Kuper of Salem, Ore., and Mrs. Walter (Elsie) Wetgen of Columbus. One sister, Mamie preceded her in death.
    The family suggests memorials to the Christian Children's Orphanage, Council Bluffs, Ia., or the donor's choice.

JANICEK--Sylvester Janicek dies suddenly; funeral Wednesday
    Sylvester Janicek, 59, a Polk county farmer living on Route 1, Shelby, died unexpectedly this morning at Behlen Memorial hospital.
    Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic church, south of Columbus, with burial in the parish cemetery. The Rev. Paul J. Rutten will officiate.
    Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral chapel where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m Tuesday.
    The son of Rudolph and Tena Flaxel Janicek, he was born Jan. 18, 1909 in Polk country [sic] and resided on the home farm all his life.
    He was a member of the Holy Name society and former trustee of St. Joseph church. He also was a past member of the District 36 school board.
    Mr. Janicek is survived by his wife, the former Leona Seipp, whom he married Feb. 3, 1932 at St. Bonaventure church; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Marilyn) Jaworski of Fremont; one son, David of Omaha; and seven grandchildren.
    Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Tena Janicek of Columbus; brother, Cyrus of Shelby; two sisters, Mrs. Roy (Camilla) Grossnicklaus of Osceola and Mrs. Harold (Verona) Ebel of Columbus.

KYRISS--Friday services at St. Bonaventure for Lloyd Kyriss
    Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Bonaventure Catholic church for a former Columbus resident, Lloyd Kyriss, 54, who died Tuesday in St. Francis hospital, Grand Island. He had been ill the last five months.
    Officiating at the funeral will be Rev. Regis Watts. Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Thursday at McKown funeral home where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure cemetery.
    Mr. Kyriss, son of the late Arthur and Alvina Ickler Kyriss, was born Oct. 18, 1913 at Herrick, S.D. He married Elvina Sloan at Plainview on Jan. 4, 1932.
    Since Oct. 8, 1940 he was employed by the Union Pacific railroad at Columbus and Grand Island, working as an engineer.
    He is survived by his wife, in Grand Island; four sons and one daughter, Donald and Larry of Columbus, Garry, Robert and Connie at Grand Island; six grandchildren; two brothers, Earl of Albuquerque N.M. and Harold of Maryland.

BURKE--Final rites Monday for Harry Burke of Platte Center
    Harry (Squire) Burke, 72, lifetime resident of Platte Center, died today in St. Mary hospital. He had been ill the last year.
    Funeral services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic church, Platte Center, with Rev. John P. Downey officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick cemetery.
    Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Sunday at the McKown funeral home where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Sunday.
    Mr. Burke was born May 22, 1896 at Platte Center, attended St. Joseph parochial school and worked as a painter.
    During World War I he served in the Guard and Fire company of the 317th Quartermaster Corps from July 29, 1918 to Dec. 10, 1918.
    Surviving ar three sisters, Cecilia Burke of Platte Center, Mrs. Madeline Smith of Columbus and Mrs. Collette Kunkle of San Francisco; three nieces, Mrs. William Coan of Columbus, Mrs. Edward Skeeters of Denver and Mrs. William Powers of Santa Monica, Calif.

    Mrs. L.N. (Mary) Bamberg, 83, of 2806 16th street, died Thursday night at St. Mary hospital after a lingering illness.

    She was born June 9, 1885, in LeMars, Ia., the daughter of Thomas and Anna Mahaney Kain. She attended LeMars schools and St. Joseph School of Nursing at Sioux City, Ia.
    On Jan. 16, 1912, she was married to Lorenz N. Bamberg at Ellendale, Ia. The[y] resided at Alton and LeMars, Ia., before coming to Columbus in 1940.
    A member of St. Bonaventure parish, Mrs. Bamberg was affiliated with St. Anne's Society, Franciscan Missionary Union and Third Order of St. Francis.
    Mrs. Bamberg is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Beryl) Toof and Miss Arlene Bamberg of Columbus; one son, Francis L. Bamberg of Encino, Calif.; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, on Aug. 14, 1961; son, Tony, who was killed in action in the European Theater in World War II while serving as a pilot in the Army Air Force; another son, Matthew, who died in 1919; a twin bother, Frank, and four other brothers.

BONNER--Mahlon D. Bonner dies Saturday, rites Wednesday
    Mahlon D. Bonner, 80, of 2614 20th street, died Saturday at Veterans hospital in Knoxville, Ia. He had been ill the past four months.
    Dr. Lowell Jones will officiate at funeral services, 10:30 a.m Wednesday at First United Methodist church, and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial cemetery. The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home; there will be no viewing at the church.
    Born at Osceola March 31, 1888, he was the son of James and Ida Bonner. He was married to Velda S. Owen Aug. 15, 1936, in Columbus.
    Mr. Bonner, who spent most of his life here, spent two years in the armed forces in World War I and served in France.
    He taught school for four terms in South Dakota and was a rural letter carrier for 37 years. He became a member of the Methodist church when 13 years of age.
    Mr. Bonner was commander of Hartman Post No. 84, American Legion in 1936 and served as Platte county commander in 1937. He was a former officer of the 40 & 8.
    Surviving are his wife; son, Billy L. Bonner, and one granddaughter of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Ernest of Canby, Ore., and True of Elston, Mont.; three sisters, Ana Harold of Portland, Ore., Bessie Adkins of Loveland, Colo., and Ellen Ayers of Norfolk.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Walter Bonner of Salt Lake City, Utah, and one sister, Harriet Price of Compton, Calif.

KING--Funeral services for Mrs. King in Omaha Tuesday
    Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Catholic church for Mrs. Edward L. King, the former Elizabeth Jaworski of Columbus.
    Mrs. King 48, died in an Omaha hospital Friday. She became ill while going to work at St. Joseph hospital where she worked for the Eastern Nebraska Mental Health Association. She lived at 4925 Pine street, Omaha.
    She was born in Columbus, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lon M. Jaworski, and moved to Omaha in 1932.
    Survivors include her husband; son, John and Jim, and daughters, Ann and Marisue, all at home; one sister, Mrs. Frank Johnson of Glendora, Calif.; two brothers, Leonard and Adrian Jaworski of Omaha.
    Mrs. King was a niece of Phillip Krzycki and Jake Jaworski of Columbus.
    Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. today at the Dworak mortuary in Omaha. Burial will be in St. Mary Magdalene cemetery.

KOBUS--Peter Kobus dies; funeral on Wednesday
    A long time Columbus grocer, Peter J. Kobus, 68, of 2722 Seventh street, died Sunday in St. Mary hospital after a short illness.
    Former proprietor of the Pawnee grocery at Eighth street and 28th avenue, Mr. Kobus retired last Jan 1 after 27 years in the business.
    Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic church with Rev. Armand Lubanski officiating, and burial will be in St. Bonaventure cemetery.
    The body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Tuesday, by Holy Name society; 7:30 p.m.; Knights of Columbus; 8 p.m., relatives and friends.
    A lifetime Columbus resident, Mr. Kobus was born here July 20, 1900, the son of Paul and Mary Hebda Kobus. He attended St. Francis academy and worked for Swift and company before entering the grocery business with Frank Korgie. He became sole owner of the neighborhood store in 1947.
    He was a member of St. Anthony parish, Holy Name society, Knights of Columbus and Eagles lodge.
    Mr. Kobus married Frances Czapla at St. Stanislaus church in Duncan, Nov. 13, 1935.
    Surviving are his wife; three children, Mrs. Don (Theresa) Eversol of Omaha, Mark of Columbus and Mrs. Tom (Mary) Gablenz of Lincoln; two grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Joe (Julia) Wielgus of Columbus, Mrs. Helen Williams of Alexandria, Va., and Mrs. George (Frances) Dumas of Washington, D.C.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank, Tom and John; and one sister in infancy.

KRUSE--Wesley Kruse, 43, dies on Tuesday; services Friday
    Wesley Kruse, 43, of 2202 20th street, died Tuesday at Veterans hospital in Omaha. He has been ill the past several months.
    The Rev. B.W. Berggren will conduct last rites at 2 p.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran church, and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the American Legion.
    The body is to lie in state at McKown Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Thursday until noon Friday, then at the church from 1 to 2 p.m.
    The son of Harm E. and Anna Plank Kruse, he was born April 24, 1925, in Brady, and was educated in Columbus schools.
    He was married to Elinore V. Trofholz July 19, 1946, at Good Shepherd Lutheran church, and they made their home in Columbus. Mr. Kruse was a tree surgeon.
    Mr. Kruse was a veteran of World War II, serving in the armed forces from Aug. 27, 1943, to Nov. 27, 1945. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was also affiliated with the Eagles Lodge.
    He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran church, and the family suggests that memorials may be directed to that church.
    Surviving are three sons, Michael, Dennis and Steven Kruse, Columbus; one daughter, Susan Kruse of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Stanley of Columbus; and four sisters, Mrs. Richard (Evelyn) Uphoff of Rising City, Mrs. Lester (Miriam) Shunk of Columbus, Mrs. Delmar (Wanda) Dallegge of David City, and Mrs. William (Jean) Hover of St. Louis, Mo.
    Mr. Kruse was preceded in death by his wife, on Jan. 1, 1968; parents; one brother, Clifford Dale Kruse; and three sisters in infancy.

BRANIGAN--Genevieve Branigan funeral rites here Saturday morning
    Funeral rites will be held here Saturday for Miss Genevieve Iola Branigan, 62, a former Colmbus resident who died Wednesday morning in a North Platte hospital. She had been ill 10 days.
    The Rev. Regis Watts will officiate at the 10:30 a. a.m. [sic] requiem Mass in St. Bonaventure Catholic church and at graveside rites in St. Bonaventure cemetery. Rosary will be prayed at 8:30 p.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Home, where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. that day.
    Miss Branigan was born in Columbus, June 22, 1906, residing here until 1958. She was a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone company for 39 years.
    After leaving Columbus she lived in Fremont until 1966, when she moved to North Platte to make her home with her brother Gerald.
    Daughter of the late John and Mary Ella Haney Branigan, she was graduated from St. Francis academy in Columbus.
    She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and secretary-treasurer of R.Y. Hyde Council Yost chapter. In North Platte she was a member of St. Patrick Catholic church.
    Surviving are two brothers, John Charles Branigan of Omaha and Gerald Branigan of North Platte, nine newphews and nieces. One brother, Marvin M. preeded her in death.

JENNY--Rudolph B. Jenny funeral services held here today
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran church for Rudolph B. Jenny, 79, of 3212 19th street.
    The Rev. H.M. Rathkamp officiated, with burial in Creston Pioneer cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerome, Martin and Lowell Jenny, Theodore Mrstny, Arnold and Elmer Olson.
    Mr. Jenny died Saturday morning in Columbus Manor after an illness of two years.
    He was born Oct 28, 1889, in Platte county, the son of John Rudolph and Marie Altman Jenny. He attended Colfax county schools.
    On Feb. 11, 1920, he married Martha Olson at her home near Leigh. They farmed in the Leigh community until 1947, then lived in Leigh until mmoving to Columbus in 1953.
    In addition to farming, Mr. Jenny did carpentry work, and before retiring he was employed by Columbus Plumbing and Heating.
    He was active in the Farmers Union and Leigh Farmers Insurance company. A former church council member at Leigh, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran church in Columbus.
    Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Hilger (Florice) Schaad of Leigh; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers Henry of Leigh, Balthasar of Creston and Ernest of Norfolk.
    His parents, infant son, brother, Andrew, and an infant brother preceded him in death.

KUHR--Rural Blair woman, son asphyxiated
    A rural Blair woman and her 14-year-old son died Saturday after being overcome by noxious fumes in a grain storage bin on the family farm.
    The victims, 42-year-old Mrs. Louis Kuhr and Craig, were the wife and son of Ralph Kuhr, a prominent auctioneer in that area.
    Mrs. Kuhr was a niece of Mrs. Ervin Bonne, Mrs. Irene Hajek and Louis E. Loseke of Columbus.
    Washington County Deputy sheriff Ben Reeh said the bin was being filled with corn that had been treated with insecticide.
    A grain sack fell into the bin and the boy descended into the bin to retrieve it. His mother went to aid the boy, but both were overcome by fumes from the insecticide or fumes from spoiling corn. They were dead on arrival at a Blair hospital.
    Besides her husband, Mrs. Kuhr is survived by three sons, Kent, 20, Curtis, 18, Clark, 13, a daughter, Keri, 2; her mother, Mrs. Louise (Loseke) Ahrens of Tekama, formerly of Leigh; two brothers, Kenneth and Eldon Ahrens of Tekamah. Her father, the late Emil Ahrens, also was a former Leigh resident.
    Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Methodist church in Blair.

BRADLEY--Mrs. Bradley buried in Duncan
    Services for Mrs. William Bradley, the former Victoria Niedzwiecki, who died Nov. 19, were held Nov. 21 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic church in Omaha.
    Father Dunn conducted the services in Omaha and Father Richard Ciurej had the graveside services at St. Stanislaus cemetery in Duncan.
    Pallbearers were: Barney Jarosik, Longie Jalkowski, Pete Mascorello and Ernie Mascorello, all of Omaha.
    Mrs. Bradley is survived by her husband, William; one son Raymond (Bud); four grandchildren; one brother, Pete Niedzwiecki of Duncan and one sister, Josephine Jarecki of Omaha.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Mike, Leo and John and one sister, Mary.

    Daughter of the late Anton and Stacia Herman Rosenthal, she was born April 8, 1893, at Lindsay, and attended St. Michael parochial school in Tarnov.
    She was married to Stanley Koziol on Sept. 13, 1916, at Tarnov. They farmed in that vicinity until his death, June 1, 1942, and the following March she moved to Columbus.
    Mrs. Koziol was a member of St. Anthony parish and St. Theresa sodality.
    Surviving are five daughters and two sons, Mrs. Florian (Stella) Gunchick of Berwyn, Ill.; Mrs. Florence Harlan of Bonner Springs, Kan.; Mrs. Edwin (Loretta) Paprocki of Columbus; Mrs. Donald (Irene) Gaunce of Kansas City, Kan.; Mrs. Raymond (Christine) Iwan of Omaha; Theophil Koziol of Chicago and Lawrence Koziol of Pittsburg, Kan.
    Other survivors include 24 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph Rosenthal of Platte Center, Philip Rosenthal of Omaha; and one sister, Mrs. Stella Syslo of Columbus.
    Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, James Iwan, and a brother, Thomas Rosenthal.

    Funeral services for Miss Helen Borowiak, 86, Duncan, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic church in Duncan with burial in the parish cemetery.
    The Rev. Richard Ciurej will officiate. Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Monday at the McKown Funeral Home where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. that day.
    In failing health the last year, Miss Borowiak died Friday morning at her Duncan home. She was born Aug. 22, 1882 in Polk county, residing there until moving to Duncan in 1946.
    She was educated at St. Francis academy, Columbus, and St. Stanislaus school, Duncan, and was a member of St. Stanislaus parish.
    Surviving are her brother, Basis Borowiak of Duncan; one half-brother, Frank Paprocki of Columbus; one half-sister, Mrs. Dominic Syslo of Columbus; nephews and nieces.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Thecla Slowinska Borowiak; three brothers, Leo, John and Anthony Borowiak; one sister, Domicella Borowiak; and one half-sister, Sister M. Bonaventure.

BOROWIAK--Borowiak Services - Funeral services for Miss Helen Borowiak, 86, who died Friday, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic church in Duncan. The Rev. BLASER--Friday services for Mike Blaser, Duncan pioneer
    Funeral services for Mike Blaser, 94, life long resident of the Duncan community, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Luke's United Church of Christ.
    The Rev. Russell Mertz will officiate, with burial in the Columbus cemetery. The body will lie in state from 1 p.m. Thursday until noon Friday at Gass Funeral chapel, then from 1 to 2 p.m. at church. A family prayer service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
    Mr. Blaser, a retired farmer, died Monday night at Schuyler Senior Citizens home, where he resided the last two and one-half years.
    He was born Nov. 14, 1874 in a loghouse in Loup township near Duncan, and attended school in District 36 and 7. His parents were Nicholas and Elisa Ernst Blaser.
    On March 16, 1899 he married Lena Boss, and they farmed two miles east of Duncan until 1927 when they retired and moved into Duncan. His wife died Oct. 12, 1945.
    Mr. Blaser served as Butler townshp assessor for about 20 years. He played in the Duncan band many years, was a member of the Swiss society and his hobbies were gardening and woodworking.
    He was a member of St. Luke's church, and the family suggests memorials to the church memorial fund.
    Suviving are two sons, Emil N. of Denver, Lawrence F. of Rt. 4, Columbus; 11 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
    Two sons, Ed H. of Columbus and Chester of Bellevue, are deceased. Also preceding him in death were one great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Fred (Emma) Oppliger; brothers, Nick, Louis Sr., John, Frank, Henry, Paul and one infant brother.

JOST--John J. Jost dies; final rites Monday morning
    John Jerry Jost, 63, night engineer at St. Mary's hospital, died unexpectedly Thursday at the hospital where he lived in the men's residence nearly all his life.
    The Rev. Oswin Kemner, chaplain, will officiate at the 10 a.m. Monday requiem high Mass in St. Mary hospital chapel. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure cemetery.
    Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Sunday at McKown Funeral Home where the body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Sunday.
    Son of the late Joe and Anna Jost, he was born Jan. 1, 1905, in Colfax county and attended St. Bonaventure school. A Catholic, he was affiliated with the Knights of Columbus.
    Survivors include his brother Joe of Schuyler; three sisters, Mrs. James (Julia) Suva of Omaha, Mrs. Lloyd (Anna) Wagner of St. Paul, Minn., Mary Jost of Schuyler and two nieces in Omaha.

KOCZOR--Emelia T. Koczor dies today; funeral services Saturday
    Mrs. Emelia T. Koczor, 62, of 2509 Eighth street, died early this morning at St. Mary hospital. She had been in failing health the past year.
    Funeral rites are scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic church with /rev Arman Lubanski officiating, and burial will be at St. Edward.
    Body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Home where rosary will be prayed at 9 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Koczor, who had moved from St. Edward to Columbus in 1956, was employed by Jourdan's Bakery. She was born Nov. 16, 1912, in Merrick county, the daughter of John and anna Czarnk Serczek. She attended public schools in Nance county.

KISSELL--Mrs. Della Kissell dies at Denver, funeral Monday
    Mrs. Della R. Kissell, 76, of Denver Colo., formerly of Columbus, died Thursday at St. Luke hospital in Denver. She had been ill the past two weeks.
    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Isidore Catholic church in Columbus, with Fr. Francis Price officiating, and burial will be in Columbus cemetery. The body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Sunday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Sunday.
    She was born May 15, 1892, in Columbus, the daughter of Marvin and Margaret Sullivan Elston, and attended Columbus schools.
    On Feb. 2, 1910, she was married to Paul Kissell in Columbus. She resided here until moving to Denver in 1940. Mrs. Kissell was a Catholic.
    Surviving are four sons, Paul Kissell of Muscatine, Ia., Jack and Ned of Anaheim, Calif., and Carroll K. of Trona, Calif., four daughters, Mrs. Edgar (Vernell) Rankin of Columbus, Mrs. Wayne (Florence) Spight of Chula Vista, Calif., Mrs. Phil (Marcia) Buford of Denver, and Mrs. Bob (Della) Steele of San Diego, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and four great-granchildren.
    Other survivors include one brother, Marvin Elston, Columbus, and three sisters, Mrs. Charles Brock of Columbus, Mrs. W. J. McKelver and Mrs. Stella Porter of California.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one sister, Mrs. Towne Leavy.

KOCZOR--Koczor Services - Last rites for Mrs. Emilia T. Koczor, 52, who died Thursday, were held Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Anthony church. Fr. Armand Lubanski officiated. Burial was in St. Edward cemetery at St. Edward. Pallbearers were Joe Swierczek, Dave Swierczek, Douglas Schaecher, Mark Koczor, Richard Tworek and Jerome Stopak. Out-of-town relatives and friends were from Long Beach, Calif., Albion, Omaha, Ashton, Duncan, Fullerton, Clarks, Osceola, Silver Creek, Shelby and Waterloo.

JASPER--Funeral services set Wednesday for Mrs. John Jasper
    Mrs. John (Claudia A.) Jasper, 45, of 2710 18th street, died Sunday at St. Mary hospital. She had been ill the past six months.
    Fr. Regis Watts will officiate at funeral services, 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bonaventure church, and burial will be in St. Bonaventure cemetery. The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
    The daughter of Mike M. and Mary D. Laska Placzek, she was born Oct. 30, 1923, at Elba, and was graduated from St. Bonaventure High school in 1941.
    On Nov. 29, 1944, she was married to John A. Jasper at St. Anthony church in Columbus, and they made their home here.
    Mrs. Jasper was a member of St. Bonaventure parish and the Legion of Mary.
    She is survived by her husband; five sons, James M. of South St. Paul, Minn., Gregory A. of Fort Riley, Kan., Patrick J., Charles J. and Randolph S., at home; two daughters, Joyce Ann and Jenniffer M., at home; and one granddaughter.
    Other survivors are her parents, of Columbus; six brothers, Dennis J. and Zigmund I. Placzek of Grand Island, Francis A. of Fremont, John V. of Atlantic, Ia., Michael A. and Eugene T. of Columbus; four sisters, Mrs. Howard (Antoinette) Krichner, Mrs. Frank (Mary) Paczosa and Mrs. Harold (Bernadine) Villard of South St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. Joe (Janet) Carmichael of Columbus.
    A brother, David, died in infancy.
