BODIE--Rites Saturday for Mrs. Bodie
    Funeral services for Mrs. Ralph Bodie, 45, of Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran church with Pastor A.H. Guettler officiating.
    Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery. The body will lie in state at Gass funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday.
    A former Columbus resident, Mrs. Bodie died Wednesday morning in a New York City hospital. She had been ill of leukemia for several months.
    As Marian Bartels, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bartels, she was born in this community Dec. 25, 1921. She attended rural schools and was graduated from Columbus high school. On Oct. 20, 1945, she was married to Ralph V. Bodie at Immanuel Lutheran church.
    Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Mrs. J. Carfello of Haskell, N.J., Linda and Susan at home one grandson; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bartels of Columbus; three sisters, Mrs. Walter Arndt of Platte Center, Mrs. Louis Gossman of McCallsburg, Ia., and Mrs. James Olson of Billings, Mont.

KNAPP--Mrs. Anna Knapp dies here Sunday, rites Wednesday
    Mrs. Harold D. (Anna M.) Knapp, 60, of 1611 17th street, died Sunday at St. Mary's hospital following surgery.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran church, with the Rev. A.H. Guettler officiating, and burial will be in new Lutheran cemetery at Norfolk. There will be a prayer service at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home, where the body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Tuesday.
    She was born Sept. 17, 1906, at Pierce, the daughter of Rienhold [sic] and Mary Pruess Maas.
    In 1928, she was married to James Leonard, and he died in 1937. She was married to Harold D. Knapp on Sept. 17, 1941, at Pierce, and they made their home in Columbus.
    Mrs. Knapp was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church.
    Surviving are her husband; her mother, Mrs. Mary Manskie of Randolph; three brothers, Henry of Madison, Alfred of Chambers, and Ervin C. (Butch) Maas of Denver, Colo.; and four sisters, Mrs. Louis (Ella) Timm, and Mrs. Oscar (Minnie) Anderson of Norfolk, Mrs. Hubert (Leonore) Coats of Salina, Kan., and Mrs. Henry (Bernice) Spolider of Pierce.
    Mrs. Knapp was preceded in death by her first husband, her father and one brother, Ralph Maas.

BORYS--Monday funeral for John Borys
    Funeral rites for John Borys, 59, Rt. 4, Columbus, will be at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Stanislaus Catholic church, Duncan, with burial in the parish cemetery. The Rev. Richard Wolbach will officiate.
    The body will lie in state at McKown funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday. Rosary will be prayed there at 7:30 p.m. Sunday by Holy Name society and 8 p.m., by relatives and friends.
    Mr. Borys, a lifetime farmer in the Duncan vicinity, was born Sept. 14, 1907 at Duncan. He attended St. Stanislaus parochial school and was a member of the Holy Name society.
    His parents, Stanislaus and Catherine Gembica Borys, and an infant brother preceded him in death.
    Surviving are five brothers and five sisters, Casimir of Mukilteo, Wash.; Jim, Mrs. Ed (Victoria) Sliva and Mrs. Leo (Agnes) Kush, all of Omaha; Mrs. Joe (Mary) Dush and Mrs. Milton (Ange) Bray of Columbus; Louis, Leo, Frank and Clara, all at home.

BLASER--Henry Blaser dies Sunday; rites Thursday
    Henry Blaser, 90, of 1721 Seventh street, died Sunday night in Behlen Memorial hospital.
    Funeral rites will be conducted by the Rev. A.R. Detwiler at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke's United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Columbus cemetery.
    The body is to lie in state at Gass funeral home after 1 p.m. Wednesday and at church from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday.
    A lifetime resident of this vicinity, Mr. Blaser was born May 14, 1876 in a log house in Loup township. His parents were Nicholas and Elisa Ernst Blaser.
    He attended school at District 37 and District 7, near Duncan, and studied one year at Fremont Normal.
    In 1893 his family moved to a farm southeast of Duncan, which remained his home until 1936, when he and his wife moved to Columbus. Mrs. Blaser was formerly Catherine Rupp. They were married March 30, 1903 at her parents' home in Loup township, and would have observed their 64th anniversary next month.
    When the American Swiss Band was organized in 1896, Mr. Blaser was elected secretary-treasurer, an office he held until the group dissolved 12 years later.
    At that time he also served 12 years as a director and president of the Loup & Platte Valley Creamery at Duncan. When the Farmers Business Association of Duncan built an elevator in 1915 he was elected a director, and served as its secretary for 25 years.
    Affiliated with the Republican party, he served as clerk and justice of the peace in Butler township. In 1946 he was appointed as a county supervisor to fill a vacancy in District 6.
    He was chairman of the District 7 school board for 18 years.
    Mr. Blaser was elected secretary of the Columbus Swiss society in 1940.
    He was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ.
    Surviving are his wife; six sons, Milton, Raymond and Orville of Columbus, Nick and Henry of Duncan, Dr. Roy of Blacksburg, Va.; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mike and Paul, who reside at Schuyler Senior Citizens Home.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Fred (Emma) Oppliger, and five brothers, Nick, Louis, Sr., John, Frank and one in infancy.

JILEK--Dies Suddenly - Word was received Monday that Mrs. Emil Jilek of Tindall, S.D., died unexpectedly last night. She was the mother of Jerome Jilek.

JERDON--Rites set Monday for Mrs. Jerdon
    Funeral rites for Mrs. Mollie Bader Jerdon, 87, Columbus, will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Lowell Jones at 10 a.m. Monday at McKown funeral chapel. Burial will be in Columbus cemetery.
    The body is to lie in state at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday.
    Mrs. Jerdon died Friday in a Schuyler nursing home after an illness of two years.
    Born May 10, 1879 in Virginia, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. McFarland.
    She was married to Fred Bader at Schuyler on Feb. 19, 1901 and he preceded her in death Jan. 31, 1925. She lived in Columbus until 1930 when she married James Jerdon and they resided in Bellwood. After his death, April 27, 1956, she returned to Columbus.
    She was a member of the Methodist church.
    Mrs. Jerdon is survived by one son, Albert Bader of Albion; three daughters, Mrs. Leo (May) Kinzer and Mrs. Carl (Edith) Kneifel of Columbus, Mrs. George (Mary) Patrick of Albion; 28 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
    One granddaughter, Merna Kinzer Kissell and several great-grandchildren preceded her in death.

BRIDGMON--Former Columbus resident dies
    Donald D. Bridgmon, 44, a former supervisor for Dale Electronics of Columbus, died late Sunday in a Grand Island hospital. The family home is at 804 South Pine Street in Grand Island.
    Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Wednesday in the chapel of the Livington-Sondermann Funeral Home. Interment will be in a Grand Island cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday until 9 at the funeral home.
    Mr. Bridgmon was born July 9, 1922 at Bigelow, Mo., to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bridgmon. Following the completion of his education, he entered the Merchant Marine and served during World War II.
    He was employed by Dale Electronics at the Columbus plant for several years. He was working as a laboratory technician for the city of Grand Island in the water pollution control plant at the time of his death.
    He and Margaret Ellen Ryan were married Nov. 7, 1963 at Holdrege. He is survived by his wife; one sister, Mrs. Bennett Martin of Lincoln; and by six chidren of a previous marriage.

JENSEN--Friday services for Mrs. Jensen
    Mrs. J.P. (Alta) Jensen, 69, mother of Mrs. Dean Williams, died Tuesday in Genoa West Haven. She formerly lived in Grand Island where she was employed at the Veterans hospital.
    Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at United Congregational church, Grand Island, with Rev. Robert Alpers officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island city cemetery.
    The body will lie in state at McKown Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Thursday and at the church after noon Friday.
    Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Sullivan, she was born Oct. 11, 1897 in Bentonville, Ark.
    Her first marriage was to O.R. Harris in Morland, Kan., in 1913. After his death she married J.P. Jensen at Sidney in 1930 and they lived in Grand Island. He also preceded her in death, as did an infant son, two sisters and one brother.
    Surviving are five children, Mrs. Larry (Floy) Looper of Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. Ethel Rohrig of Mitchell, Mrs. Dean (Vera) Williams of Columbus, Mrs. Joseph (Lois) Scott of Sacramento, Calif., and Earl Harris of Florissant, Mo.; 12 grandchilren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, John Sullivan of Morland, Kan., and Rodger Sullivan of Colorado.
    Mrs. Jensen was a member of the Congregational church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Memorials may be directed to the church.

HEINEN--Mrs. Tony Heinen dies in hospital; funeral Tuesday
    HUMPHREY -- Mrs. Tony (Josephine) Heinen, 76, lifetime resident of the community, died Sunday morning at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital, Norfolk, after a long illness.
    Funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Catholic church with burial in the parish cemetery. Rosary will be at 3 and 7:30 p.m. today at Duesman mortuary where the body lies in state.
    Daughter of the late Clement and Victoria Weiser Wemhoff, she was born April 8, 1890 in the St. Mary community and attended parochial school there. She was married to Tony Heinen Sept. 1, 1914 at St. Mary Catholic church.
    Mrs. Heinen was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis, Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of America.
    Her husband and an infant daughter, Mary Ann, preceded her in death.
    She is survived by six sons, five daughters, 50 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a number of sisters and brothers.
    Children are: Ted and Aeldred of Humphrey; Edgar, Mrs. Beata Van Dyke and Mrs. JoAnn Van Dyke of Wheaton, Minn.; Norbert of Long Beach, Calif.; John of Aurora, Ill.; Arthur of Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Rita Seume of Omaha, Mrs. Bernadette Reinhart of Lincoln; Mrs. Clara Schwartz, Grangeville, Ida.
    Pallbearers will be six nephews, Stanley Foltz, Clem Rist, Elmer Zach, Paul Brockhaus, Dick and Jim Wemhoff.

JARECKI--Dominic P. Jarecki dies; rites Monday
    Dominic P. Jarecki, 70, Rt. 4, Columbus, died Thursday in St. Mary's hospital. He was in failing health the past year.
    Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Stanislaus Catholic church, Duncan, with burial in the parish cemetery. Officiating will be his son, the Rev. Reynold Jarecki, OFM.
    Body will lie in state at McKown funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday and rosary will be prayed there at 7:30 p.m. Sunday by Holy Name society; 8 p.m. by parish and relatives.
    Mr. Jarecki, a retired farmer, had spent his lifetime in this vicinity. Son of the late Steve and Angeline Tryba Jarecki, he was born at Columbus April 27, 1896 and attended St. Stanislaus school, Duncan.
    He married Emelia Liss Oct. 11, 1921 and they lived near Columbus. He was a member of St. Stanislaus parish and Holy Name society.
    His wife died in August, 1966. Surviving are 10 children, Eugene and Dominic, Jr., Denver; Mrs. Eugene (Patricia) Gomes, New Orleans, La.; Mrs. Frank (Delores) Filipowic, Mrs. Leon (Janet) Pruch and Sister M. Imelda OSF, Omaha; Rev. Reynold Jarecki OFM, Watkins Glen, N.Y.; Theresa, Lincoln; Joseph R. and Sister M. Dominic OSF, Columbus.
    Other survivors include 21 grandchildren, three brothers, Emory of Lindsay, Stanley and Alois of Columbus, two sisters, Mrs. John (Adel) Podraza and Mrs. Tony (Elizabeth) Zabawa, Columbus.

JOHANNES--Herman Johannes dies at Anaheim
    Word was received Saturday night of the sudden death of Herman P. Johannes of Anaheim, Calif.
    Mr. Johannes was the son of the late John H. and Louisa M. Johannes. He was born July 3, 1898, in Columbus, and resided here until moving to California in 1941. He was formerly connected with Bucks Booterie in Columbus and Gallenkamps of Anaheim.
    He is survived by his wife, Pearl; two daughters, Mrs. George (Marjorie) Beynan of Berkeley, Calif., and Mrs. George (Sandra) Madson of Costa Mesa, Calif.; and a son, Lt. Jack Johannes of Bellevue.
    Also surviving are a brother, Otto B. Johannes of Columbus; and four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Reuter, Mrs. Martha Bushnell and Mrs. Irma Johnson of Columbus, and Mrs. Louise Launer of Fremont.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
    Funeral services will be held Wednesday in Anaheim, Calif.

BERNT--Gus C. Bernt dies in hospital today; funeral Tuesday
    Gus C. Bernt, 82, of 1754 18th avenue died this morning in St. Mary's hospital after an illness of five weeks. He was a retired farmer.
    Funeral serfices [sic] will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bonaventure Catholic church with burial in St. Bonaventure cemetery. The Rev. Elstan Coghill will officiate.
    Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Monday at McKown funeral home where the body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Monday.
    Son of the late Edward and Amelia Gans Bernt, he was born Oct. 11, 1884 in Polk county. He married Theresa Greisen on Oct. 1, 1907 at St. Anthony Catholic church, Platte Center.
    A lifetime resident of Polk and Platte counties, Mr. Bernt farmed west of Oconee and north of Columbus before retiring to town seven years ago.
    He was a member of St. Bonaventure church.
    Surviving are his wife and six children, Mrs. Floyd (Madeline) Arasmith and Raymond of Columbus; Martin of Tahoe City, Calif.; Louis of Ralston; Mrs. Jim (Evelyn) Davis of Pico Rivera, Calif.; Mrs. Jack (Lorraine) Cotie of Daly City, Calif.
    Also surviving are 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred and Otto of Osceola and one sister, Mrs. Clara Alt of Columbus.
    He was preceded in death by a daughter, one sister and one brother.

KROPATCH--Final rites for John Kropatch here Saturday
    Funeral services for John P. Kropatch, 76, will be conducted at 9 a.m, Sturday [sic] at St. Bonaventure church. The Rev. Elstan Coghill, O.F.M., will officiate, with burial in the Caholic [sic] cemetery. The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Friday.
    Mr. Kropatch died Wednesday after an illness of five months.
    The son of John and Anna Kropatch, he was born July 11, 1890 at Osceola, and was married to Emilia Micek, Feb. 7, 1912 at St. Stanislaus church of Duncan.
    They resided in Polk county before coming to Columbus in 1928. Mr. Kropatch had been an employe of Kavich Iron & Metal Company.
    He was a member of the Catholic church.
    Surviving are his wife; sons, Clarence C. Kropatch of Downey, Calif., and Lester F. of Inglewood, Calif.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Anna Fillinger of Newcastle, Wyo.
    Mr. Kropatch was preceded in death by his parents, seven sisters and four brothers.

BAKER--Mrs. Julia Baker dies in rest home; funeral Monday
    Mrs. Julia C. Baker, 85, longtime Columbus resident, died Friday morning at Columbus Manor. She had been ill the last four months.
    Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at McKown funeral chapel with Dr. Lowell Jones officiatng and burial will be in Bellwood cemetery. The body will lie in state at the McKown chapel after 1 p.m. Sunday.
    Mrs. Baker was born Oct. 24, 1881 in Butler county, where she received her education. Her parents were the late John Charles and Anna Hereford Flaxell.
    She was married to Lemerick M. Baker July 13, 1907 in Buchanan county, Missouri. He preceded her in death.
    A resident of Columbus the last 40 years, Mrs. Baker had previously lived in Denver and Shelby.
    She was a member of the Methodist church.
    Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Tena Janicek of Columbus and Mrs. Albert (Bertha) Schelby of Columbus, also several nieces and nephews.
    Brothers and sisters preeding her in death were John C., Frank and Anna Flaxell, Mrs. Eleanor Murphy, Mrs. Millie Whitney and Mrs. Lena C. Abts.

KULA--Mrs. Lena Kula, 71, dies on Thursday, funeral Monday
    Mrs. Joe (Lena) Kula, Sr., 71, of Rt. 3, Columbus, died Thursday in Norfolk.
    Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic church, Platte Center. Fr. John P. Downey will officiate, with burial in St. Patrick's cemetery.
    The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Sunday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Sunday.
    Born March 30, 1896, at Columbus, she was the daughter of Patrick and Frederica Schulz Murray. She attended school in Quincy, Ill, and Spalding.
    She was married to Joe C. Kula, Sr., May 15, 1914 at St. Bonaventure church, and they farmed near Columbus and Platte Center.
    Mrs. Kula was a member of St. Joseph's Parish.
    Surviving are her husband; one son, Joe Kula, Jr., Platte Center; four grandchildren, two brothers, Mike Murray of Columbus and John of Omaha; and three sisters, Mrs. John (Mary) Podraza and Mrs. Charley (Antonia) Kuta of Columbus, and Sister Frederica Murray of China.
    She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Patrick.

BADJE--Rites Wednesday for Fred Badje; burial at Fullerton
    Funeral services will be held here Wednesday for Fred T. Badje, 69, who died unexpectedly Sunday night in Weston. The former Columbus resident had been living at Sunshine court in David City.
    Pastor B.F. Meschke will officiate at the 1:30 p.m. rites at Gass funeral home and at 2 p.m in Immanuel Lutheran church. Burial will be in Fullerton cemetery. The body lies in state at the funeral home.
    Mr. Badje, a carpenter, had lived in the Columbus area since 1937.
    He was born Aug. 28, 1897 in Sarpy county, son of the late Henry F. and Hannah Oltmans Badje. He attended Burt county and Elm Creek schools and Wayne State college.
    On Aug. 25, 1918 he married Eva Bennett at Belgrade and they resided in that community until coming here. Mrs. Badje died Oct. 18, 1963.
    Surviving are two sons, Donald and Robert of Columbus; one daughter, Mrs. Earl (Dorothy) Held of Sunnyvale, Calif.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, John of Columbus; three sisters, Mrs. Werner (Freda) Hellbusch of Belgrade, Ann Badje of Minneapolis and Mrs. Herman (Marie) Hellbusch of Columbus.
    A daughter, Barbara, died in childhood. Also preceding him in death was his stepmother, the former Anna Oltmans.
    Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran church, of which he was a member.

JAAX--Frank Jaax, 79, dies on Tuesday, services Friday
    Frank Jaax, 79, Columbus, died Tuesday at St. Mary hospital after an illness of several weeks.
    Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Bonaventure church, with Fr. Elstan Coghill officiating, and burial will be in St. Andrew Catholic cemetery at Osceola. The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Thursday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Thursday.
    The son of John and Martha Glatter Jaax, he was born Nov. 11, 1887, at Shelby. He attended Polk county rural school.
    A retired farmer, Mr. Jaax resided northwest of Shelby until retiring and moving to Columbus in 1948.
    Mr. Jaax was a Catholic, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He formerly belonged to the Knights of Columbus.
    Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Christina Henggeler of Columbus; many nieces and nephews, greatnieces and greatnephews; one brother-in-law, John W. Gabriel of Osceola; and three sisters-in-law.
    Mr. Jaax was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, Mrs. Lucy Bernt, M rs. Cecilia Gabriel, Mrs. Margaret Henggeler, Anna Jaax, Peter, Hubert, John and William Jaax.

KOPP--Monday funeral for Emil Kopp
    Funeral services for Emil Kopp, 84, of 1358 18th avenue, are scheduled for 9 a.m., Monday at St. Bonaventure Catholic church with burial in St. Bonaventure cemetery. The Rev. Elstan Coghill will officiate.
    Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Sunday at McKown funeral home where the body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Sunday.
    Mr. Kopp, a retired farmer, died Friday in University hospital, Omaha, after an illness of three months. Son of the late Joseph and Theresa Kopp, he was born Oct. 25, 1882 at Merotein, Austria, where he received his education.
    He farmed near Monroe until moving to Columbus in 1945.
    Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Frieda Herold, Monroe, and Miss Emile Kopp in Germany; four nieces and one nephew.

BERNT--Mrs. Adolph Bernt dies on Tuesday, services Friday
    Mrs. Adolph (Dollie) Bernt, 84, of 3109 18th street, died Tuesday at Behlen Memorial hospital after a week's illness.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at First Methodist church, with Dr. Lowell Jones officiating, and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial cemetery. The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Thursday at Gass Funeral Home.

    Born in Butler county April 14, 1883, she was the daughter of James and Almira Whaley Jerdon. She attended Butler county schools.
    She was married to Adolph Bernt Nov. 26, 1902, at David City. They made their home eight miles north of Shelby in Polk county until 1956, when they moved to Columbus.
    Mrs. Bernt is survived by her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Chester (Edith) Wells, Mrs. P.W. (Velma) Elliott and Mrs. Arthur (Cleo) Mayberger of Columbus; one granddaughter and six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Lew (Cora) Seiz of Bellwood.
    She was preceded in death by one son, Lloyd Bernt of Columbus; three brothers, James, John and Samuel Jerdon; and three sisters, Mrs. Kate Eldridge, Mrs. Harriet Wickard and Mrs. Anna Thompson.
    The family suggests that memorials may be directed to the Heart Fund.

BARGMANN--Harry Bargmann funeral Saturday at Immanuel church
    Funeral services for Harry Bargmann, 44, Rt. 3, Columbus, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Gass funeral home and 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran church.

    Mr. Bargmann, a farmer and ASCS committeeman, died of an apparent heart attack Wednesday morning at St. Mary's hospital. He was admitted to the hospital Monday.
    A lifetime resident of this community, he was born here March 4, 1923, the son of Fred D. and Emma Becher Bargmann.
    He attended District 71 school, Immanuel Lutheran parochial school and was graduated from Columbus High.
    He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church where he was baptized by Rev. Miessler and confirmed by Rev. Guettler.
    On April 24, 1964 at Grand Island he married Virginia Salak, who survives him.
    Also surviving are his parents, one sister, Mrs. Bill (Ferne) Strong of Monroe, and two nieces, Sally and Cindy Strong.

BENDA--Mrs. Emma Benda dies; funeral rites to be Thursday
    Mrs. John (Emma) Benda, 75, died unexpectedly Saturday at her home, 1606 20th street.
    Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke's United Church of Christ with the Rev. M.E. Schroer, Lincoln, officiating. Burial will be in Shelby cemetery.
    The body will lie in state at Gass funeral home from 1 p.m. Wednesday until noon Thursday, then at church from 1 to 2 p.m.
    She was born Oct. 17, 1891 in Grand Prairie township and attended Platte county schools. Her parents were the late Fred and Mary Husser Kumpf.
    The Kumpf family lived at Grand Prairie until she was 15, then moved to Shelby where she was married to John Benda Feb. 25, 1914.
    After their marriage the Bendas farmed nine miles northeast of Shelby. From 1920 to 1935 they lived in Fremont, then returned to the farm at Shelby, retiring to Columbus in 1955.
    Mrs. Benda was baptized March 20, 1892 and confirmed April 1, 1905. She was a member of St. Luke's church and Ladies Aid. Memorials may be given to St. Luke's memorial fund.
    Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. John (Amelia) Scholz of Shelby; two grandchildren, Kenneth and Judith Scholz; two sisters, M rs. Otto (Lillie) Jauch of David City and Mrs. H.C. (Ella) Beebe of Shelby.
    She was preceded in death by her husband; infant son; infant sister; three brothers, Louie, Otto and Herman Kumpf, all of Shelby.

KUMMETZ--Services held for Kummetz sisters
    Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran church for Miss Eva Kummetz, 58, and her sister, Miss Audrey Kummetz, 40.
    The Columbus women were killed in a two-car collision Saturday afternoon about six miles south of here.
    Officiating at the double service was the Rev. H.M. Rathkamp, pastor. Burial was in Columbus cemetery.
    Attending as groups were employees of the Columbus Telegram company, where Eva was a bookkeeper, and General Telephone company, where Audrey was a telephone operator.
    Pallbearers for Eva Kummetz were Dick Toff, Mike Senior, Paul Ernst, Bill and Art Cummings, and Bill Gottberg.
    Gene Hansen, John Cromwell, Herb Engel, Harold Clausen, Dean Klug and Gene Applegate were pallbearers for Audrey Kummetz.

BERNT--Mrs. William Bernt dies; funeral services Friday
    Mrs. William (Mary) Bernt, 84, of 1365 32nd Ave., died Wednesday at Behlen Memorial hospital after a six-month illness.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran church with the Rev. Hugo Rathkamp officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery.
    The body will lie in state from 1 p.m. today to noon Friday at McKown Funeral Home and from 1 to 2 p.m. at the chruch.
    She was born April 13, 1883 in Polk county to Emil and Mary Hanson Hasselbalch. She attended Polk county schools and on Sept. 23, 1903 married William Bernt at Osceola. They lived in Polk county and Columbus.
    Memorial may be made to Trinity Lutheran church of which Mrs. Bernt was a member.
    Survivors include her husband, son, Roy, brothers, George and August Hasselbalch, Shelby, and Otto and Ralph Hasselbalch, and a sister, Dora Shank, Columbus.
    Preceding her in death were her parents, sister, Lena Miller and brother, Nels Hasselbalch.

KORTE--Henry Korte, 22 killed in Indiana
    Henry Nierman Korte, 22, grandson of Mrs. W. J. Korte was killed Sunday in a motorcycle accident at Indianapolis, Ind.
    Other survivors include his parents, Henry and Anna Nierman Korte, and brother Scott, all of Indianapolis, and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Nierman of Los Angeles. Born June 4, 1945 in Omaha, Mr. Korte attended schools in California and was presently employed by Allison Motors of Indianapolis.
    His body is being sent to Los Angeles for services and burial on Friday. The family suggests that memorials be given to the heart fund. Further inquiries may be directed to Gass funeral home.

BERNT--Raymond Bernt, jockey, dies following spill
    Raymond L. Bernt, 28, a jockey from Littleton, Colo., and former resident of Columbus, died Monday in a Colorado Springs hospital of injuries sustained last Saturday when he was thrown from his mount at Pikes Peak Meadows.
    Mr. Bernt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond F. Bernt of this city, launched his riding career on the Nebraska circuit as a teen-ager and had formerly been employed by Van Berg stables of Columbus.
    He was thrown Saturday when his horse stumbled during the running of the Rocky Moutain Futurity at Pikes Peak Meadows, located in southern Colorado. He was knocked unconscious in the mishap, but later had been listed as being in satisfactory condition.
    Authorites said death resulted from multiple chest and lung injuries.
    The fall occurred on the back-stretch at the half mile mark as Mr. Bernt was riding D.M.'s Pride. Mr. Bernt was stepped on by another horse after his fall.
    Mr. Bernt came to Pikes Peak Meadows when the track first opened in 1965. His death was the third of a jockey since the advent of parimutuel horse racing in Colorado in 1959.
    The former Columbus resident and his wife, Shirley, were the parents of a four-year-old son.
    Mr. Bernt's body is being brought here for services and burial. Arrangements are pending with McKown Funeral Home in charge.

    Funeral services for Raymond L. Bernt, 28, of Littleton, Colo., will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Bonaventure church.
    Officiating will be Rev. Fr. Elstan Coghill, pastor, and burial will be in St. Bonaventure cemetery. Rosary is to be prayed at 8 p.m. Thursday at McKown Funeral Home, where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Thursday.
    A professional jockey, Mr. Bernt died Monday at Memorial hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo., of injuries suffered last Saturday when he was thrown from his mount at Pikes Peak Meadows in southern Colorado.
    Raymond LeRoy Bernt was born Oct. 12, 1938, in Columbus, the son of Raymond and Catheryn Good Bernt, and attended St. Bonaventure school.
    He was married to Shirley Coe March 20, 1961, at Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. As a jockey, Mr. Bernt wintered in Columbus and followed his racing profession at various tracks the balance of the year. he was a member of the Jockey Guild.
    Mr. Bernt served in the Army from Sept. 29, 1954, to Feb. 15, 1955, and took up riding as a teen-ager on the Nebraska circuit.
    A Catholic, he was a member of St. Bonaventure church.
    He is survived by his wife and a son, Chris, of Littleton, Colo.; his parents, of Columbus; three brothers, Ronald of Grand Island, John and Gus of Columbus; two sisters, Mrs. John (Donna) Aldrich of Jacksonville, Ark., and Judy of Columbus; and his grandmothers, Mrs. Gus Bernt of Columbus and Mrs. Totsy Good of Chula Vista, Calif.
    Preceding him in death were two infant sisters and his grandfathers.

JOSTES--Joseph B. Jostes of Columbus dies, funeral Thursday
    Joseph Bernard Jostes, 63, of 3319 19th street, died early this morning at Behlen Memorial hospital after a week's illness.
    Last rites will be conducted by the Rev. Harold B. Taylor at 2 p.m. Thursday at McKown Funeral Home, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park. The body will lie in state at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Wednesday.
    He was born Nov. 27, 1903, at Lindsay, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Strawbinger, and was later adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jostes. He attended high school at Ft. Pierre, S.D.
    Mrs. [sic] Jostes was married to Margaret Herzog June 30, 1928, at Button, S.D. They resided in Minnesota, and in 1938 moved to the Polk and Platte county area.
    His occupation was that of service station attendant and later manager.
    Surviving are his wife; son, Robert Jostes, and daughter, Mrs. Robert (Joan) Aerni; 14 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Suddarth of Columbus and Mrs. Lloyd Huffstutter of Omaha; and a half-brother, Bert Schelby of Columbus.
    Mr. Jostes was preceded in death by his parents and foster parents; one brother; two foster sisters and one foster brother; two half-brothers and one half-sister.
    The family suggests that memorials be directed to the Heart Fund.

KELLEY--John M. Kelley, Cheyenne, buried here Thursday
    Graveside services were held here Thursday for John M. Kelley, 65, a former Columbus resident who died Sunday in Cheyenne, Wyo.
    The Rev. Harold B. Taylor officiated at the 11 a.m. rites in Roselawn cemetery. Gass funeral home was in charge.
    Mr. Kelley was born Jan. 16, 1902 at Monroe, the son of William J. and Bertha Obrist Kelley. He attended Genoa schools.
    On Oct. 16, 1925 he married Marguerite Bushnell in Omaha, and they resided in Columbus and the area until moving to Cheyenne 25 years ago.
    He was a member of the congregational church and the Genoa Masonic Lodge.
    Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. George (Barbara) Nicovich of Boulder, Colo., and Mrs. Ralph (Carolyn) Sorensen of Cheyenne; four grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ted (Velma) Haldiman of Columbus.
    His parents and two infant brothers preceded him in death.

BELL--Mrs. Ira Bell of Columbus dies, funeral Monday
    Mrs. Ira (Dorothy Ann) Bell, 50, of 1667 39th avenue, died today at Veterans hospital in Grand Island after a month's illness.
    A member of the Women's Army Corps in World War II, Mrs. Bell served from Oct. 23, 1943, to Feb. 8, 1946. She was a private secretary at the Pentagon.
    Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Isidore Catholic church, with Fr. Wayne Schlautman officiating, and burial will be in Bellwood cemetery. The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Sunday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Sunday.
    The daughter of Gregory and Mary Ann Chmura Novicki, she was born here Jan. 12, 1917. She was graduated from Columbus high school.
    On July 6, 1946, she was married to Ira Bell at St. Bonaventure church and they made their home here.
    Surviving are her husband; sons, Richard and Robert of Columbus; daughter, Vicki, Columbus; brothers, Jon, Barney and Mike Novicki, Columbus; and sisters, Mrs. Frank J. (Kate) Murphy and Mrs. Fred (Rose) Kluver of Columbus.
    Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Anthony Novicki; and sister, Mrs. John D. Rohan.

    Last rites for William G. Blessen, 70, Platte Center, who died Tuesday, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus.
    The Rev. D. Lee Grace will officiate, and burial will be in Platte Center Baptist cemetery. The body is to lie in state at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Thursday.
    Born July 9, 1897, at Platte Center, he was the son of J.F. and Minnie Meyer Blessen. He attended District 22 school, Platte Center.
    Mr. Blessen and Verna Albers were married at Columbus May 11, 1939, and they made their home on a farm near Platte Center.
    He is survived by wife; three daughters, Mrs. Robert L. (Katherine) O'Hare and Mary Blessen of Fresno, Calif., Mrs. Oscar T. (Karen) Snyder of Columbia, Mo.; two grandchildren; and a brother, Chris F. Blessen of Portland, Ore.
    Preceding him in death were his parents, and a brother, George, in 1964.

BORO--Wednesday funeral rites scheduled for John Boro, Shelby
    John Boro, 85, a retired farmer who resided in Shelby, died this morning at St. Mary hospital. He had been ill the last month.
    Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic church, Duncan, with Rev. Richard Ciurej officiating. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery, Krakow.
    Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Tuesday at McKown funeral home where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. that day.
    Mr. Boro, son of the late Joseph and Catharine Cuba Boro, was born May 20, 1882 in Polk county. He farmed in Nance, Platte and Polk counties until retiring a number of years ago.
    He married Mary Ziemba at Pilsno church in February, 1905 and to this unnion were born five children, Louis, Adolph, and Edmund of Omaha; Mrs. Charles (Clara) Flakus of Santa Monica, Calif.; and Edward of Omaha, who died in October, 1964. Mrs. Boro died Dec. 13, 1918 during the flu epidemic.
    In July, 1929 Mr. Boro sailed to Zassow, Poland to claim as his bride, Miss Agnieszka Persak; a young woman whom he had never seen. They were married at Zassow in August of that year, and to this union were born two children, Mrs. Everette (Irene) Eschliman of Bellwood and Julian Boro of Columbus.
    Besides his wife, Agnieszka, and chidren, Mr. Boro is survived by two brothers, Joseph of Texas and Charles of Silver Creek; two sisters, Anna Olson of Fullerton and Vernice Wrubel of Omaha; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
    Two brothers, Michael and Frank, preceded him in death.

JANSSEN--Gerhard Janssen, 81, dies Sunday; funeral Wednesday
    Gerhard Janssen, 81, of 3306 16th street, died Sunday evening at Behlen Memorial hospital after a lingering illness.
    Last rites will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran chruch, Grand Prairie, Platte Center. The Rev. Clifford Swanson is to officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery.
    The body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
    Mr. Janssen was born Aug. 22, 1885, in Oldenburg, Germany, the son of Bernard and Margaret Borchers Janssen. At the age of nine years he came with his parents to Platte county. He was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran church, Columbus.
    He was married to Katie Gehring May 31, 1911, at Grand Prairie, Platte Center. Mr. Janssen farmed in Grand Prairie township until moving to Columbus in 1949.
    Mr. Janssen was a Lutheran. He was treasurer several years of Dist. 28, Grand Prairie, and also served on the township board.
    Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Viola) Osten of Columbus and Mrs. Wilfred (Lorraine) Hoessel of Leigh; three sons, Alvin, Harold and Gilbert Janssen of Platte Center; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Bernhard of Columbus and Henry of Omaha; and two sisters, Mrs. Dena Mohlmann of Platte Center and Mrs. Minnie Rosenthal of Creston.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, parents; three brothers, August, John and Herman; and five sisters, Anna Borchers, Emma Schmit, Bertha Hellbusch, Lena Osten and Martha Linter.
    The family suggests that memorials be given to Zion Lutheran church, Grand Prairie. Edward Hassebook [sic] and Glenn Goering will be in charge.

KORTE--Miss Rose Korte dies; funeral rites to be Wednesday
    Miss Rose A. Korte, 80, a resident of Morys Haven the last three and one-half years, died there Sunday.
    Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gass funeral home with Rev. Hugo Rathkamp officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. The body will lie in state at Gass chapel from 1 p.m. Tuesday until time of the service.
    A lifetime resident of this area, Miss Korte was born Nov. 5, 1886 in Colfax county, north of Schuyler. She attended Colfax county schools, and was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran church, Shell Creek.
    Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Johannes (Amalie) Behrens, Mrs. William F. (Caroline) Loseke and Mrs. Adolph (Emma) Hoge, all of Columbus; also a number of nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. J.P. (Minnie) Hunteman, Mrs. George (Lillie) Loseke and Mrs. Alfred (Mathilda) Plugge, and two brothers, Adolph F. and Carl Korte, all of Columbus.

    Mrs. Mary Bruckner, 61, Omaha, died Friday at St. Joseph hospital in that city.
    Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Fr. John P. Downey at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic church in Platte Center, and burial will be in St. Patrick cemetery. The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Sunday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Sunday.
    The daughter of Jerry and Christina Langan, she was born May 9, 1906, at Platte Center. She was married to Ralph Bruckner at Platte Center, and resided in that community until moving to Omaha in 1947.
    Mrs. Bruckner was a Catholic.
    Survivors are three sons, Col. Robert Bruckner and Richard Bruckner of Omaha, and Donald of Chicago; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Langan of Columbus and Jerome of Omaha; and sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Sanders and Mrs. Maurice Howard of Omaha, and Mrs. Arnold Melcher of Columbus.
    Her husband died in 1937.

    Funeral services will be held Tuesday for two Columbus teenagers, victims of a Saturday morning traffic accident. The youths died in a one-car crash near Crestwood Acres.
    Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. at McKown Funeral Home chapel for Thomas Andrew Bridgmon, 18, 2172 27th avene. The Rev. Harold B. Taylor will officiate.
    Final rites for Roger Carl Brown, 17, 2271 36th avenue, will be at 1:30 p.m. at Gass Funeral Home and 2 p.m. at Grace Episcopal church with Rev. E. William Pounds officiating.
    Both youths will be buried in Roselawn cemetery. The bodies are lying in state at the funeral homes.
    Thomas Bridgmon was born Nov. 17, 1948 in St. Joseph, Mo., and attended Columbus High school where he was a member of the C Club.
    He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Anne Bridgmon; three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Robert (Donna) Legenza and Mrs. Larry (Judy) Larsen of Columbus, Sharon, Steven and Robert, at home; one grandmother, Mrs. Andrew Eld of Royal Oak, Mich. His father, Thomas Bridgmon is deceased.

    Roger Brown, who would have been a senior at Columbus High this fall, was employed by Leonard Babka. A resident of Columbus the last four years, he previously lived at Martin, S.D., where he was born March 19, 1950. He was the son of William F. and Delores DeKay Brown.
    Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. George Kern of Columbus; one brother, David, at home; grandmothers, Mrs. Tillie Spear of Tuthill, S.D., Mrs. Jennie Brown, of Martin, S.D., and Mrs. Frances Kern of Columbus; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. V.F. Vesely of Verdigre.

    Jane E. Kyster, 7, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Kyster, 2422 17th street, died this morning after a two day illness.
    Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the McKown Funeral Chapel with Rev. N. Dwain Acker of Lincoln officiating. Burial will be in Columbus cemetery.
    She was born in O'Neill, Neb., Oct. 5, 1959 to Theodore and Marilee Kyster. She moved here recently with her parents from Lincoln where she was a member of Southview Christian church.
    Survivors include her parents; two brothers, Ted and Kirk; two sisters, Debra and Teresa; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore L. Kyster and Mr. and Mrs. Glen N. Stemple, of Council Bluffs, Ia.

BELL--Final rites today for Fred Bell, Sr.
    Funeral services for Fred Bell, Sr., 68, Rt. 2, Columbus, were held today at First Methodist church. The Rev. Lowell Jones officiated at 10:30 a.m., with burial in Roselawn Memorial cemetery.
    A retired farmer, Mr. Bell died Friday morning in Hoffmeister Nursing Home, Genoa.
    Son of the late John and Kate Miller Bell, he was born Nov. 25, 1898 in Colfax county, and attended school at Colfax District 23. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
    On March 4, 1930 he married Rose Reinke at St. John Lutheran church, Shell Creek, and they farmed northeast of Columbus.
    Surviving are his wife; five sons Merlin of Richland, Delane of Tacoma, Wash.; Fred, Jr., Donald and Eugene, at home; five grandchildren; two brothers, Chris and Dave of Richland; three sisters, Mrs. Paul (Anna) Ewert of Bellwood, Mrs. Ruby Ernst and Mrs. Paul (Bernice) Smith of Columbus.
    A son, Gary died March 27 of this year. Also preceding him in death were his brother, John of Octavia, and an infant brother and sister.

JONES--Martin Jones, Sr. dies in hospital; funeral Wednesday
    Martin Andrew Jones, Sr., of Rt. 2, Columbus, died Sunday evening in St. Mary hospital after an illness of two weeks. He was 64.

    The body will lie in state at McKown Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Tuesday. Rosary will be prayed there at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday by Holy Name members and Knights of Columbus, and at 8 p.m. by relatives and friends.
    Mr. Jones, a lifetime resident of this vicinity, was a conductor for the Union Pacific railroad and a member of the Order of Railway Conductors and Brakemen.
    Son of the late Charles and Carrie B. Nodels Jones, he was born Sept. 25, 1902 at Columbus. After his graduation from Columbus High school he studied one year at Midland college in Fremont.
    He married Barbara Berzenski April 24, 1932 in Columbus.
    Mr. Jones served in the National Guard and was a member of the Columbus Fire Department. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic church, Holy Name society and Knights of Columbus.
    Surviving are his wife; sons, Martin A., Jr., of Belle Fourche, S.D., Jack E. of Duncan, Eugene L. of Omaha and Gary L. at home; daughter, Mrs. Robert V. (Barbara A.) Mielak of Columbus; brothers, Herbert W. of Columbus, Delbert E. of Albuquerque, N.M., Carroll J. of Glendora, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.

JARVIS--Saturday rites for Glen M. Jarvis at St. Bonaventure
    Funeral services for Glen M. Jarvis, 70, of 1509 10th street, will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Bonaventure Catholic church with Rev. George Phillipp officiating.
    Military rites for the World War I veteran will be conducted in St. Bonaventure cemetery.
    Rosary is scheduled for 8 p.m. today at Gass Funeral Home chapel where the body lies in state.
    Mr. Jarvis, who died unexpectedly Thursday night at home, was a former sales representative for Siegler corporation. He retired in the fall of 1961.
    Son of the late Sam and Olive Fisher Jarvis, he was born at Diagonal, Ia., Dec. 3, 1896 and received his education in Diagonal schools.
    During World War I he served as a private in Company A, Motor Transport Repair, at El Paso, Tex., from Aug. 15, 1918 to Jan. 23, 1919.
    He married Margaret Zitzlsperger on Feb. 2, 1928 in Omaha.
    Mr. Jarvis was a member of St. Bonaventure church.
    Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. D.D. (Patricia) Johnson of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sons, C-M Sgt. George R. Jarvis, stationed at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, and John William Jarvis of Casper, Wyo., one brother, Jess B. Jarvis of Fremont; one sister, Eva Kraft of Little Rock, Ark.; and 11 grandchildren.

BUZYNSKI--Mrs. Buzynski, 74, dies on Thursday, services Monday
    Mrs. Josephine Buzynski, 74, of 2804 6th street, died Thursday at St. Mary hospital. She had been in failing health the past three years.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony church, with Fr. Armand Lubanski officiating, and burial will be in St. Bonaventure cemetery. The body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Sunday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Sunday.
    She was born Feb. 2, 1893, in Columbus, the daughter of John and Anna Hebda Sturek, and was married to Frank Buzynski Feb. 11, 1914, at Krakow.
    The Buzynskis farmed around Oconee and Columbus until his death in January, 1939.
    Mrs. Buzynski was a member of St. Anthony parish.
    Surviving are two sons, Joseph of Sacramento, Calif., and Edward of Omaha; and seven daughters, Mrs. Louis (Dorothy) Flakus, Mrs. Stanley (Clara) Olsufka and Mrs. Floyd (Helen) Mostek of Omaha, Mrs. Del (Emily) Mostek of Columbus, Mrs. Ray (Elizabeth) Ryyth of Torrance, Calif., Mrs. Victor (Florence) Bosak of Minneapolis, Minn., and Frances at home.
    Other survivors are 26 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and five sisters, Mrs. Mary Bialas of Fullerton, Mrs. Belbina Swiatek of Spalding, Mrs. Julia Shotkoski of Genoa, Mrs. Ted (Pauline) Cielocha of Columbus, and Mrs. Al (Katherine) Rosno of Grand Island.
    Mrs. Buzynski was preceded in death by her husband; parents, two sisters and three brothers; and two grandchildren.

KORTE--Mrs. Ernst Korte dies here today, services Monday
    Mrs. Ernst (Louise) Korte, 69, of Rt. 1, Columbus died early this morning in Behlen Memorial hospital.
    Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Christ Lutheran church with Rev. Martin Bornemann officiating, and burial will be in the Christ Lutheran cemetery.
    The body will lie in state at Gass Funeral Home from 11 a.m. Sunday until noon Monday, then at church from 1 to 2 p.m. A prayer service is scheduled at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday.
    Mrs Korte was born March 22, 1898 in Platte county, the daughter of Fritz and Ida Grotelueschen Otte.
    Baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran church, she attended parochial school there and also Colfax county schools. She was a member of Christ Lutheran women's Missionary League and Ladies Aid.
    On June 14, 1917, she was married to Ernst Korte at Christ Lutheran church and they lived northeast of Columbus. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary this year.
    Surviving are her husband, six children, Edgar and Harry of Leigh, Mrs. Willis (Dorothy) Wurdeman of Seattle Wash., Elmer, Norman and Mrs. LaVern (Evelyn) Wilke of Columbus; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Ernst Otte of Columbus and Herman of New Jersey; three sisters, Mrs. Oscar (Martha) Bakenhaus of Leigh, Mrs. Carl (Minna) Otte of Wayne and Mrs. Henry (Anna) Littlejohn of Onalaska, Wash.
    A son, Allen was killed during World War II. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, brother, Adolf Otte and sister, Erna Otte.

BRAASCH--Funeral services set Thursday for Theresa Braasch
    RISING CITY--Funeral services for Theresa Lynn Braasch, who died suddenly Tuesday morning, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Shelby.
    Msgr. L.F. Obrist of Osceola will officiate, with burial in Sacred Heart cemetery. The body lies in state at Rising City Memorial chapel late this afternoon and evening, and Wednesday until 1 p.m.
    Knott Funeral Home of David City is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Danny and Beborah [sic] Alt, Curtis and Douglas Lippstrue.
    Theresa, daughter of Robert and Janice Alt Braasch, was born Nov. 29, 1965. She was baptized Dec. 19, 1965.
    Other survivors are a brother, Greg; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Alt of Shelby and Mr. and Mrs. John Braasch of Rising City; two aunts, two uncles and 11 cousins.

BENNING--Mrs. W.F. Benning dies; funeral rites scheduled Tuesday
    Mrs. WIlliam F. (Hilda) Benning, 63, of Rt. 2, Columbus, died Friday evening in Behlen Memorial hospital after a short illness.
    Funeral services are scheduled Tuesday, 1:15 p.m. at Gass Funeral Home and 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran church, Shell Creek with Rev. Loyal Mortensen officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Monday.
    Daughter of the late Herman and Lena Munster Schroeder, she was born Jan. 30, 1904 in Colfax county and attended rural school there.
    She was married to William F. Benning June 1, 1926 at St. John's church, Schuyler, with Rev. Konig officiating. They resided in Colfax and Platte counties.
    She was a member of St. John's Lutheran church, Shell Creek, and treasurer of Ladies Aid.
    Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Esther) Kummer of Columbus and Mrs. Don (Delores) Hoessel of Leigh; seven grandchildren; one brother, Ernest Schroeder of Columbus; three sisters, Mrs. Carl (Edith) Wolta of Columbus, Mrs. John (Emma) Heibel of Richland and Mrs. Elmer (Lora) Ahrens of Schuyler.
    She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Donna, an infant daughter; one grandson, Joel Kummer; sister, Minnie Legler of Schuyler; two infant brothers and one infant sister.
    Ewald Klug will have charge of memorials at the church.

JOHANSEN--George E. Johansen, 80, dies; funeral services 2 p.m. Monday
    George E. Johansen, 80, longtime building contractor and civic leader, died unexpectedly Friday night in St. Mary's hospital. He was hospitalized only a few hours.
    Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Monday at First Methodist church.
    Dr. Lowell Jones, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Columbus cemetery. The body will lie in state at Gass Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Sunday.
    Mr. Johansen was born March 20, 1887 at Florence, Mo., a son of Ingwer and Matilda Johansen.
    In 1906 he came to Columbus where he entered the construction business. He continued in that work until retiring as a building contractor in 1956.
    Long active in civic and church affairs, Mr. Johansen served on the Columbus board of education from 1939 to 1956; on the YMCA board of directors for 20 years, including two years as president; and on the Boy Scout Council from 1921 to 1931.
    He was awarded a PTA Life Membership in 1957, and in 1958 he received a Certificate of Outstanding Community Service from the Chamber of Commerce.
    For 40 years Mr. Johansen served as an usher and Sunday school librarian of the First Methodist church. He served the church and Sunday school board and was trustee emeritus.
    He also served as co-chairman of the church building committee.
    Mr. Johansen was a 42-year member and past master of the Masonic Grand Lodge AF & AM of Nebraska.
    On Feb. 23, 1915 he married Sarah C. Wilson at Columbus and they observed their 50th wedding anniversary in February, 1965.
    Surviving are his wife; four sons, George W. of Columbus, Homer of Boulder, Colo., Douglas of Denver and Dr. Ray E. of Rancho Corvoda, Calif.; three daughters Mrs. L.H. (Carmen) Johnson of Lincoln, Mrs. B.H. (Florence) Burma of Sunnyvale, Calif. Mrs. R.D. (Marion) Ebeling of Colorado Springs; and 18 grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and a half-brother.
    The family suggests that memorials be directed to the building fund of First Methodist church, Columbus.

BAUMAN--Fred Bauman, 68, dies Saturday; funeral Tuesday
    Fred Bauman, 68, former Columbus resident who lived in Ord the last nine years, died Saturday in the Grand Island Veterans hospital after a lingering illness. He was a retired farmer.
    Funeral services will be Tuesday, 9 a.m. at the Ord Bethany Lutheran church and 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran church in Columbus. Pastor John Nordgaard of Ord will officiate.
    Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial cemetery with military graveside rites. The body is at Hasting-Pearson mortuary in Ord and Gass Funeral Home has charge of local arrangements.
    The body will lie in state here Tuesday from noon until 2 p.m. at the church.
    Mr. Bauman was born Aug. 16, 1899 at Central City, the son of John and Elizabeth Miller Bauman. He lived in the Columbus vicinity most of his life.
    A World War I veteran, he saw action in the European theater.
    Surviving are his wife, the former Hazel G. Voss, whom he married March 29, 1926 in Columbus; one son, Doyle of Ord; three daughters, Mrs. Elaine Wolta of Schuyler, Mrs. Shirley Mueller of St. Edward, Mrs. Mary Martensen of Burwell; one brother, Dan Bauman of Richland; and eight grandchildren.
    His parents, one brother and three sisters preceded him in death.
    The family suggests memorials to Bethany Luheran church, Ord, of which he was a member.

BURKE--Burke funeral held in Omaha
    Funeral services were held in Omaha Thursday for Mrs. Mark J. (Florence) Burke, 60, victim of a two-car crash last week.
    Her husband, who was injured in the accident, is a stepson of Mrs. Mark (Loretta) Burke Sr. of Columbus. He was hospitalized for rib injuries, face and scalp cuts.
    According to police reports, the Burke car was struck broadside by a car driven by David Herrera, 19, Omaha.
    Funeral services for Mrs. Burke were at Fitch and Cole Memorial chapel with Rev. Mark McCallum officiating.
    Besides her husband she is survived by a son, Mark, Jr., Omaha; daughter, Mary Elizabeth of Cincinnati; sister, Mrs. Guy (Fern) Seymour of Omaha; brother, Carl Mulligan of Manchester, Ia., and four grandchildren.

JAWORSKI--Services held for Fr. Jaworski, 75
    Rev. Fr. Stanley Jaworski, 75, died Wednesday evening at Cleveland, O., and funeral services were conducted there Saturday morning.
    Fr. Jaworski was born at Tarnov and ordained a priest in 1919.
    He is survived by three sisters and one brother, Sr. M. Clatilda of Lafayette, Ind., Sr. M. Cunegundis of St. Francis School, Humphrey, Mrs. Mary Kristmas of Escalon, Calif., Frank Jaworski, Omaha, and a large number of nieces and nephews.
    His parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Jaworski, two sisters, Mrs. Sophie Sliva and Mrs. Victoria Novak and three brothers, Tony, Andrew and Joe Jaworski, preceded him in death.

KUSH--Funeral services set Saturday for J. Thomas Kush
    Funeral services for Joseph Thomas Kush, 61, of 1409 6th street, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony church.
    Fr. Armand Lubanski will officiate, with burial in St. Bonaventure cemetery. The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Friday.
    Mr. Kush died at his home Wednesday. He has been in poor health the past five years.
    He was born Feb. 15, 1906, in Columbus, the son of Thomas and Josephine Borowiak Kush, and attended St. Francis academy here. He was married to Vera Stock Jun 7, 1927, in Omaha, and they made their home here.
    Mr. Kush retired from Cornhusker Public Power District after 20 years of service. He was a member of St. Anthony parish.
    Surviving are two sons, Eugene and Lawrence of Columbus; 11 grandchildren; and two sisters, Isabel Kintz of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mrs. Andy Bruns of Columbus.
    He was preceded in death by his wife; two sons, Dean and Thomas; one sister, Genevieve, and his parents.

BARTELS--Bartels funeral set for Friday
    Funeral services for Elmer W. Bartels, 67, of 1067 22nd avenue, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Chapel.
    The Rev. A. H. Guettler will officiate, with burial in Roselawn Memorial cemetery. The body now lies in state at the funeral home.
    He was born July 3, 1900, in Columbus, the son of Dieterich G. and Dorothea Rodehorst Bartels. He attended Lutheran parochial school, Dist. 2 and Dist. 10.
    Mr. Bartels was married to Ruth Munger here in December, 1921. They farmed four miles north of Columbus, and in 1946 moved to Columbus.
    While residing here, he had been a maintenance operator for the county, a mechanic at Ewert Implement, and did land terracing for Carl Aerni.
    A member of Immanuel Lutheran church, Mr. Bartels had been active in the Izaak Walton League.
    Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Hicks of Denver, Colo., three grandchildren, Rachel, Howard and Nelson Hicks; three brothers, George H. Bartels of Peetz, Colo, Walter E. and Milton J. of Columbus; and three sisters, Mrs. Al (Laura) Muff of Harvey, Ill., Mrs. William (Lillie) Plageman and Mrs. Ernest (Helen) Lusche of Columbus.
    Mr. Bartels was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a sister, Clara Fiddelke.

BLASER--Funeral services for Paul Blaser Monday afternoon
    Funeral services for Paul Blaser, 89, Duncan, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Luke's United Church of Christ with Pastor Russell Mertz officiating. Burial will be in Columbus cemetery.
    The body will lie in state at Gass Funeral Home from 11 a.m. Sunday until noon Monday, then at church from 1 to 2 p.m. A family prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Monday.
    Mr. Blaser, a retired farmer, died Thursday morning in Schuyler Senior Citzens Home where he resided the last year and a half.
    He was born Oct. 4, 1878 in a log house in Loup township, the son of Nicholas and Elisa Ernst Blaser. He attended District 36 and 7 schools at Duncan, and farmed in that community until 1930, when he retired to Duncan.
    He and Bertha Boss were married Dec. 27, 1900 in Columbus. She preceded him in death in 1950.
    Mr. Blaser was a member of St. Luke's church and the Columbus Swiss society. Memorials may be directed to the St. Luke memorial fund.
    Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. C.W. (Evelyn) Scholz of Bellevue; two grandsons, David Scholz of New York City, Gordon Scholz of Bellevue; and one brother, Mike of Schuyler.
    He was preceded in death by a son, Arthur of Columbus; daughter, Mrs. John (Alma) Gerber of Duncan; sister, Mrs. Fred (Emma) Oppliger; brothers, Nick, John, Frank, Louis Sr., Henry and one in infancy.

BRUHN--Emma Bruhn, 75, dies on Sunday, rites Wednesday
    Mrs. Herman (Emma) Bruhn, 75, of 1954 23rd avenue, died Sunday afternon at Schuyler Memorial hospital. She had been ill the past month.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran church, with the Rev. H.M. Rathkamp officiating, and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial cemetery. The body lies in state until noon Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home, then at the church from 1 p.m. Wednesday to the time of service.
    The daughter of John and Sophie Schlotzhauer Hoessel, she was born March 2, 1892, on a farm near Leigh and was educated in Platte county schools.
    She was married to Herman Bruhn June 3, 1917, at St. Paul Lutheran church, Leigh. They farmed 10 miles north of Columbus for four years, then moved to Columbus.
    Mrs. Bruhn was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran church, Leigh. She was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran church, Columbus, and the family suggests that memorials be directed to Trinity Lutheran Memorial fund.
    She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. A. Glenn Kluck, grandchildren, Gary Kluck of Tustin, Calif., Genene of Des Moines, Ia., and Glen of Ames, Ia., and one great-granddaughter, Kristine; three sisters, Mrs. Henry (Hulda) Jenny of Leigh, Mrs. A.N. (Sophie) Gerhold and Mrs. Lester (Anna) Breese of Columbus; and one brother Henry Hoessel, Columbus.
    Mrs. Bruhn was preceded in death by her husband, on May 27, 1954; parents; brothers, Arthur, William and Gustave; and a sister, Mrs. Fred (Bertha) Hefti.
