KUMMETZ--Mrs. O. Kummetz Dies; Services On Wednesday
Mrs. Olga Kummetz, 63, died about 12:30 p.m. Sunday at her Columbus home following a lingering illness. She was seriously ill the past six months.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran church and the Rev. C.R. Goldenstein, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Columbus cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the Gass Funeral chapel from 11 a.m until 5 p.m. Tuesday when it will be taken to the family home, 2917 Seventh street, there to lie in state until the hour of the service.
Mrs. Kummetz, daughter of the late Ludwig and Adlena Bahr Tetzlaff, was born Aug. 28, 1890 at Madison and received her education in the rural schools of that community. She was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Madison.
At the age of 16, she moved with her parents to a farm north of Albion. On March 11, 1907 she married Herman Kummetz at Albion, and they made their home there and at St. Edward before coming to the Columbus vicinity about 18 years ago. Mr. Kummetz died Dec. 12, 1938.
Mrs. Kummetz was a member of Trinity Lutheran church.
She is survived by two daughters, Misses Eva and Audrey of Columbus; two sons, Norman of Columbus and Wilbert of Newman Grove; one brother, Theodore Tetzlaff of Madison; sister, Mrs. Will McDonald of Fremont; and three granddaughters.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Owen, in 1935; an infant daughter, Vera; brother, Herman of Petersburg; and one sister, Mrs. John Galitz of Julesburg, Colo.

DIETRICH--William Dietrich Dies; Services On Wednesday
William Dietrich, 80, long-time resident of Columbus died at 5 a.m. today at St. Mary's hospital whre he was a patient for several days. He had been ill the past month.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bonaventure Catholic church with the Rev. Fr. John Schniegenberg officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the Gass Funeral chapel after 11 a.m. Tuesday, and rosary will be prayed there at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Mr. Dietrich, son of William and Dora Brandies Dietrich, was born April 15, 1873 at Oconee. He received his education in the Columbus public schools.
On Nov. 19, 1896 he married Elizabeth Meyer in New York City and after 1904 they made their home in Columbus. Mr. Dietrich was an auto painter and also did carpentry.
He was a former member of the National Guard and an honorary member of the fire department.
Surviving are his wife; one son, William of Tacoma, Wash.; six daughters, Mrs. Dorothea Olson of Fergus Falls, Minn., Mrs. E. A. Schupp of Anchorage, Alaska, Mrs. Otto Kupp of North Hollywood, Calif.; Mrs. G. T. Carraher of Grand Island, Mrs. Agnes Meyers of Columbus and Mrs. Ray Benda of Downey, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
One daughter and one son died in infancy. Mr. Dietrich was also preceded in death by all his brothers and sisters.

KALLWEIT--Henry Kallweit Dies Suddenly At His Home
Funeral services for Henry R. Kallweit, 73, Platte Center, will be held at the Grand Prairie Lutheran church, with burial in the church cemetery. Date and time of the services are pending word from a daughter in Japan.
Mr. Kallweit, a lifetime resident of Platte county, died unexpectedly at 10:40 a.m. Friday at his home six miles northeast of Platte Center.
Henry Rudolph Kallweit, son of the late Otto and Rose Treinies Kallweit, was born Feb. 2, 1880 in Grand Prairie township. He received his education in the Platte county rural schools.
On March 27, 1913 he married Clara Maurer at the home of his parents and they made their home on a farm in the Grand Prairie township. Last year Mr. and Mrs. Kallweit celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Kallweit of Platte Center, who were married about the same time.
Mr. Kallweit was baptized and confirmed in the Grand Prairie Zion Lutheran church and was a member of the Brotherhood.
Surviving are his wife; son, Dayle of Platte Center; three daughters, Mrs. Wallace (Helen) Johnson and Mrs. Erwon (Dorothy) Lichtenfeld, both of Platte Center, and Mrs. John (Marjorie) Kennedy of Sindai, Japan; one brother, George of Platte Center; one sister, Mrs. J.R. Schmitt of Norfolk; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
Gass Funeral home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

KLAUS--Mrs. Jacob Klaus Dies; Funeral Services Monday
Mrs. Jacob Klaus, 66, Duncan, died at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's hospital where she had been a patien [sic] the past week.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m., Monday at St. Stanislaus Catholic church in Duncan, with the Rev. Fr. George Mikulski, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the Fleming Funeral chapel in Silver Creek from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, and will be taken to the family home in Duncan at 2 p.m., Sunday, there to lie in state until the hour of the service. Relatives and friends will pray the rosary at St. Stanislaus church at 8 p.m. Sunday.
Mrs. Klaus, a resident of the Duncan community for more than 40 years, was a member of St. Stanislaus church and St. Anne's sodality.
Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Louis Tworek of Osceola; two sons, Eddie of Bakersfield, Calif., and Joe of Duncan; one sister, Mrs. Victoria Gembica of Poland; and nine grandchildren.

KOHLUND--Funeral Services Tuesday For Frank Kohlund
Frank Kohlund, 60, Columbus, died at 1:20 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's hospital after an illness of three weeks. His wife and children were at his bedside.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bonaventure church, with the Rev. Roch Hettinger, pastor officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery.
The body is lying in state at the McKown Funeral home, where the Rosary will be prayed tonight at 7 o'clock by the Knights of Columbus and at 8:15 by the family and friends.
Frank Kohlund was born May 24, 1893, near Humphrey; the son of Tekla and John Kohlund, and attended school in Madison.
He was married to Eleanor Otterpohl on Feb. 18, 1914, at St. Leonard's church in Madison, and farmed in Madison county until 1932, when the family moved to Columbus.
Mr. Kohlund participated in the original survey for the Loup River Public Power District, starting in 1932, and then continued employment in 1934 with the newly-created district. He had been continuously employed by the Loup since that time, and was the last member of the original survey group still in service with the district.
Mr. Kohlund, a Catholic, was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council at Madison, and bcame affiliated with the Columbus Council upon moving here. He was a past grand knight of both councils.
He was a member of the Holy Name Society for a number of years, and for two years was a member of the Eagles Lodge.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. C.H. (Ramona) Nichols of Westfield, N.J., and Mrs. W.D. (Doris) McDonald; one son, Frank Kohlund, of McCook; a sister, Mrs. George Vilmur and brother, William Kohlund, both of Madison; four grandchildren and two nieces.

KLAUS--Klaus Services - Funeral services for Mrs. Jacob Klaus of Duncan were held Monday morning at St. Stanislaus Catholic church. The Rev. Fr. George Mihulski, pastor, officiated and the Rev. Frs. JANSEN--Mrs. Hulda Jansen Dies In Hospital In California
Mrs. Hulda Jansen, 56, formerly of Columbus, died Friday at a hospital in Fresno, Calif., after an illness of several years. She had been hospitalized for 10 days.
A native of Zurich, Switzerland, Mrs. Jansen spent most of her life in Columbus. She moved to Fresno seven years ago.
She is survived by her husband, Fritz Jansen of Fresno; two sons, Gerald of Fresno and Charles of Santa Ana, Calif.; two daughters, Suzanna Jansen, a WAF stationed in Texas, and Mrs. Hedwig Mitchell of Texas; and three grandchildren.

JENKINSON--Former Columbus Resident Dies In Washington
Mrs. Mabel Jenkinson, 88, formerly of Columbus, died April 3 in Spokane, Wash., where she lived the past 18 years.
Funeral services were held in the Gothic chapel in Spokane, with burial in Riverside Park.
Mrs. Jenkinson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Hudson, was the last surviving member of a large family. She was born in Columbus on May 3, 1865, and lived here until she moved to Spokane. There she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Vivian Zinnecker, and family.
Other survivors include one son, Lester Jenkinson of Spokane, eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Jenkinson was a charter member of Vashti Rebekah Lodge 108 of Columbus.

KRUMLAND--William Krumland Dies; Services On Saturday
William Krumland, 80, a lifetime resident of this community, died last night at the Lutheran hospital where he was a patient the past two and one-half weeks.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Immanuel Lutheran church with the Rev. A.H. Guettler, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Columbus cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the Gass Funeral home from 11 a.m. Friday until the hour of the service.
Mr. Krumland, son of Gerhard and Wilhelmina Kunneman Krumland, was born Feb. 12, 1874, on his parents homestead six miles north of Columbus. He received his education at District 10 school.
On June 12, 1907 he married Bertha Schutt in Columbus.
He was associated with Paul Johannes in the hardware and grocery business for about 10 years; and since then he was engaged in the monument business, working as a salesman and advertiser.
He was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran church, having been baptized and confirmed there. He was a member of the Lutheran Laymen League.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Elmer of Omaha, Erwin of Columbus; three brothers, Adolph, Otto and Ed of Columbus; two sisters, Mrs. G.W. Mueller of Kearney, Mrs. Louis Wilken of Columbus; and three grandchildren.
Mr. Krumland was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Henry, and another brother, Theodore, who died about 32 years ago.

KRUMLAND--Krumland Rites - Funeral services for William Krumland, 80, who died Wednesday at the Lutheran hospital were held Saturday afternoon at Immanuel Lutheran church. The Rev. A.H. Guettler, pastor, conducted the rites. Burial was in the Columbus cemetery. Pallbearers were Albert Krumland, Raymond Krumland, Clarence Wilken, Clarence Mueller, Harvey Mueller and Melvin Mueller of North Platte. Members of the Columbus fire department attended the funeral in a body. Mr. Krumland was a former member of the Pioneer Hook and Ladder Company of the fire department, and he was also a former member of the city band.

BRANDFAS--Walter Brandfas Dies Early Today in Arizona
Walter F. Brandfas, 61, a former Columbus resident, died in Florence, Ariz., early this morning. He had been hospitalized for a week.
The body will be brought to Columbus for services and burial. Funeral arrangements are pending, awaiting the arrival of the family from Arizona.
Mr. Brandfas, born March 6, 1893 at Crofton, Neb., came to Columbus as a young man and worked as a carpenter. He enlisted in the army during World War I, serving with Company K, and after the war he remained in France for a year, driving an ambulance for the Red Cross.
After coming back from Europe, he returned to Columbus and in December, 1921 he married Rose Schwantje. They lived in Colorado for a few years, then moved back to Columbus and he became a successful contractor here. About two years ago they moved to Coolidge, Ariz.
Mr. Brandfas was a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Dale of Coolidge, James of Columbus and Richard, who is in the Navy and stationed in San Diego; three sisters, two brothers and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donnella, in 1944 and a sister, Mrs. Fred Schafroth of Hastings.

JENKINS--Last Rites For Lee Jenkins On Friday
Funeral services for Lee A. Jenkins, sr., 75, Norfolk, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Gass Funeral chapel with the Rev. Paul Hillman, Methodist pastor, in charge. Burial will be in the Columbus cemetery.
Mr. Jenkins, formerly of Columbus, died Tuesday morning at his home in Norfolk. He had been ill since January.
The body will lie in state at the Gass Funeral chapel from 11 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service.
Mr. Jenkins, only child of the late Edward and Elizabeth Turner Jenkins, was born May 2, 1879 in Madison county. He was a grandson of Judge Allen C. Turner who published the Columbus Journal for many years.
He was educated in the Madison county schools and Columbus High school. As a young man he was employed in Columbus as a telephone lineman, and in 1916 he began farming in Madison county continuing in that work until his retirement in 1946. Since then he lived in Norfolk.
Mr. Jenkins was a former member of the Madison county fair board and assisted with 4-H club work, spending some time as a leader.
He also served as a director of the Rural Electrification Adminstration.
He was married to Susan Bouton on June 30, 1915 in Madison and she and seven children survive him. The children are: Betty Jenkins, at home; Mrs. M.R. (Mary) Stroh of Fremont; Lee A. jr., of Lindsay; Edward of St. Edward; George T. of Roswell, S.D.; Mrs. Charles (Bonnie) Strand of Nickerson; Elton of Norfolk. There are nine grandchildren.

Mrs. Kluck, a lifetime resident of Colfax and Platte counties, died suddenly Friday night at her home. She had been ill the past two weeks.
A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Oltmann, she was born at Schuyler on April 24, 1884, and received her education in the Colfax county Rural schools. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran church, of which she was a lifetime member.
On Oct. 22, 1908 she married William F. Kluck at St. John's church. He preceded her in death May 27, 1942.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Wilbur (Verna) Schilz of Hollydale, Calif.; two brothers, Fred and August Oltmann of Schuyler; six sisters, Mrs. Louis Dicke and Mrs. Martha Schmid of Columbus, Mrs. Emma Christensen of Osmond, Mrs. Paul Plugge, Miss Bertha and Miss Louise Oltmann, all of Schuyler; and nine grandchildren. One brother died in infancy.

Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Janssen, 81, who died at 5 a.m. this morning at her home in Platte Center will be held at 1:45 p.m. at the family home, and at 2 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Platte Center, Monday. Rev. Cleo Kautsch will officiate at the rites. Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery. Mrs. Janssen had been in failing health for several years, but was bedfast only one day prior to her death.

Born Reka Johnson in Gillespie, Ill., August 6, 1872, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Heye Johnson. The family moved to Platte County in 1886. She receved her education in the Platte County schools. She married Henry W. Janssen in St. Johns Church, Platte County, February 26, 1908.
Mrs. Janssen was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Platte Center, and was a charter member of the Ladies Aid.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mrs. Ella Hellbusch; one brother, O.H. Johnson, and three brothers and one sister, who died in infancy.
Survivors include her husband and one sister, Mrs. J.B. Lawrence, Bozeman, Mont.

Henry Jansen, 72, 1503 10th street, died suddenly about 5:30 a.m. today at his home. He had been in failing health for some time.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bonaventure Catholic church with the Rev. Fr. Martin Wolter officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery.
The body will lie in state all day Monday at the Gahan Funeral home, and rosary will be prayed there at 8 p.m. Monday.
Mr. Jansen, a native of Didam, Holland, was born Oct. 31, 1881. He immigrated to the United States in 1908, coming to Butler county, Neb. He farmed near David City until 10 years ago when he retired and moved to Columbus.
On Jan. 12, 1915 he married Dora De Young at St. Mary's Catholic church in David City.
Surviving are his wife, brother, William of Holland; two nephews, Bernard Van Ampting of Genoa and Anton Van Ampting of Omaha.

KILTS--Franklin Kilts Dies; Services On Thursday
Franklin P. Kilts, 81, died Tuesday afternoon at his home, 2618 18th street. He had been ill for several months.
Burial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Magnolia, Ia., with the Rev. Clyde Hardin of Council Bluffs, Ia. in charge.
Mr. Kilts, a resident of Columbus for the past 35 years, was engaged in the grocery business here for some time and later worked as a clerk in local hotels.
A native of New York state, he was born April 5, 1873, the son of Lysander and Sarah Kilts. He married L. May Penrod on Dec. 1, 1897 in Modale, Ia.
Surviving are his wife and three sisters, Mrs. E.H. Bryant and Mrs. William Emerson, both of Sioux City, Ia., and Mrs. William Wood of Council Bluffs, Ia. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, two sisters and four brothers.

KOZIOL--Martin Koziol Dies; Rites on Tuesday
Martin J. Koziol, 77, Rt. 3, Columbus, died at 2:40 a.m. today at St. Mary’s hospital after a lingering illness.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic church, Duncan, with burial in the parish cemetery. The Rev. Fr. George Mikulski will officiate.
The body will lie in state at the McKown Funeral home from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday and at the family house from 4 p.m. Monday until the hour of the services.
Martin John Koziol, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Koziol, was born August 10, 1877 in Poland. When he was two years old he came to the United States with his parents. The family settled at Platte Center, later moving to Duncan where he attended St. Stanislaus school.
In 1899 he marriage Anna Sokol of Duncan, and they lived at Madison, Omaha, Silver Creek, Monroe, Belgrade and Fullerton. In 1941 they moved back to this vicinity, making their home on a farm eight miles west of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife; six sons, Frank of Danbury, Ia., Emit [sic] of Haley, N.D., Dr. Edward of Los Angeles, Clarence of Montana, Leo of Genoa and Virgil at home; three daughters, Mrs. Alvina Birkel of Bloomfield, Capt. Eleanor Koziol, A.N.C. of Denver, and Mary Anne of Los Angeles; one brother, Pete of Central City; four sisters, Sister M. Florentine of Grand Island, Mrs. Vic Kolm of Columbus, Mrs. Dorsey Gainey of Schuyler and Mrs. John Matya of Platte Center; 18 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Mr. Koziol was preceded in death by several children, his parents and three brothers.

KUSH--Mrs. Kush Dies; Funeral Services on Tuesday
Mrs. Josephine Kush, 73, Columbus, died at 10:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s hospital after a lingering illness. She was a resident of Columbus for the past 50 years.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bonaventure Catholic church with the Rev. Fr. Roch Heittinger, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. today at the Gahen Funeral home where the body is lying in state.
Mrs. Kush, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Borowiak, was born Nov. 27, 1880 at Duncan and attended school there. She married Thomas N. Kush on Oct. 3, 1900 at Duncan. They farmed southeast of Genoa until 1904 when they moved to Columbus to make their home. Mr. Kush died here May 26, 1944.
Mrs. Kush was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic church.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Frederick (Isabelle) Hintz of Norfolk, Va., Mrs. Andy (Alphonsa) Bruns of Columbus and Mrs. B.J. (Genevieve) Pereria of San Diego, Calif.; one son, Thomas of Columbus; one sister, Mrs. P. J. Sokol of Duncan; a stepsister, Miss Kate Rosno of Columbus; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, one sister, Mrs. Proxida Bendowski, and step-brother Jake Rosno.

KUSH--Kush Rites – Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine Kush, 73, Columbus, were held Tuesday morning at St. Bonaventure Catholic church, the Rev. Fr. Roch Hettinger officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. The pallbearers were Eugene, Lawrence, Dean and Tommy Kush, John Loveless and Andy Bruns. KEITH--Rites For Infant - Graveside rites were held Friday afternoon in the Columbus cemetery for John Henry Keith, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Keith of Columbus, who died shortly after birth Wednesday night at St. Mary's hospital. McKown Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

SCHEFCICK--Funeral Services Wednesday for Mrs. Schefcick
Mrs. John Schefcick, 75, resident of Columbus for many years, died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Morys Nursing Home. In failing health for several years, Mrs. Schefcick was bedfast the last three weeks.
Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bonaventure Catholic church with the Rev. Fr. Roch Hettinger, pastor, in charge. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the McKown Funeral chapel from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service. Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the McGown chapel.
Mrs. Schefcick, the former Mary Knopick, was born in Poland on February 9, 1879. As an infant, she came to America with her parents, and they settled on a farm near Genoa, Nebraska.
She married John Schefcick at the Krakow Catholic church, and they farmed in the Krakow community until 1916 when they moved to Columbus.
She was a member of St. Bonaventure church.
Survivors include her husband; five sons, John jr. of Omaha; Frank of Bardonia, New York; Pete of San Mateo, California; Joseph and Steve of Columbus; five daughters, Mrs. Nellie Ballew of Hayward, California; Mrs. Josephine Schutt; Mrs. Helen Price; Mrs. Vera Schmidt; and Mrs. Frances Blahak all of Columbus; two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Yates and Mrs. Katherine Koziol, both of Omaha; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Two daughters died in infancy and two sisters and one brother also preceded her in death.

JERUZAL--Final Rites For Mrs. Anna Jeruzal On Monday
Funeral services for Mrs. Anna E. Jeruzal, 76, will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Bonaventure Catholic church with the Rev. Fr. Roch Hettinger, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Mrs. Jeruzal, a long-time resident of Columbus, died Friday morning at her home, 2322 Fifth street. She had been ill about a year.
The body will lie in state at the McKown Funeral chapel from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, then at the family home after 4 p.m. Sunday until the hour of the service. Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Sunday at the family home.
Mrs. Jeruzal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Martys, was born in Poland on Dec. 23, 1877. When she was about two years old she came with her family to this vicinity.
Her marriage to Michael Jeruzal took place Aug. 3, 1903 at Tarnov and they lived at Tarnov and Silver Creek for a time before moving to Columbus nearly 45 years ago. Mr. Jeruzal died here in May, 1937.
Survivors include two children, Mrs. Steve (Mary) Boroviak of Rising City, Leo of Columbus; three sisters, Mrs. Elvina Lane of Omaha, Mrs. Gertrude Eheart and Mrs. Mary Boroviak of Columbus; three brothers, Joe and John Martys of Omaha, Mike Martys of Columbus; a half-brother, Charles Drvol of Shelby; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One sister preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in the form of contributions to the fund.
